I’m a huge fan of Laurelin Paige’s work. Her Fixed series is one of my top ten favorite series of all time. Laurelin is a flawless storyteller who allows readers to get engrossed in her stories by the level of plot development she creates as well as the back stories and personalities she establishes for her characters.
In Take Two, Laurelin takes a pretty common storyline (Hollywood movie star, who has had a countless string of women, falls for a beautiful woman, but he can’t commit), puts her own twists on it, and delivers an absolute gem of a story. For Maddie and Micah, one chance encounter at a graduation/film wrap party leads to a hot and heavy make out session that quickly gets interrupted by the heroine’s drunk best friend, and even though Micah has Maddie’s phone number, a morning meeting with an entertainment agent leads him to delete her number and focus completely on becoming the next big thing in Hollywood. Fast forward seven years and Micah has accomplished his dream – he is Hollywood royalty with endless money, a slew of women, and top pick of any script he wants. But what happens when “Maddie from the party” invades his life and mind yet again? Will there be more interruptions? Or, will Micah’s strict policy on “no relationships” ruin the best thing to ever happen to him?
Maddie is such a great heroine. She is passionate, feisty, and true to herself. She fights her attraction to Micah because she knows the score with him and his views on relationships, but their sexual attraction overpowers her control, and Maddie finds herself falling for a man who constantly tells her that there can’t be more.
Micah is the quintessential movie star. He has the looks, the swagger, and the attitude that makes everyone want a piece of him, and for the past seven years, he has taken what and who he has wanted. But now he wants Maddie in his bed for the duration of filming, and eventually, she gives in to their desire for one another, but when she wants more, Micah is going to have to decide if he is willing to give up his rules or give up the girl because unlike Micah, Maddie understands that it takes two.
Take Two is an inside look at a Hollywood romance between a camera operator who desires to be a director and an actor who wants to shield himself from becoming a has been in the movie industry. Laurelin Paige sure knows how to write sexual tension as well as hot and steamy sex scenes, but it is her complex characters and refreshing plotline that really draws me in to her texts. If you are looking for an original take on an ordinary Hollywood storyline, Take Two is the book for you!
5 poison apples!
In one swift move, he had her pressed against the wall, his mouth hovering above her own. The rough stone behind her barely registered as she licked her lips in anticipation of the kiss she knew was coming. But he didn’t lean in. Instead, he brought his finger to her cheek and caressed it softly. She shuddered at the electric pulses that followed his light touch as he traced her jawline. When he reached her chin, he lifted her face up to within an inch of his mouth. She felt his breath, hot and sweet, on her skin. And then his mouth was on hers, tugging at her bottom lip, teasing her until she eagerly drew him in, wrapping her arms around his neck.
The kiss built, each stroke varying in pressure and intensity. Soft nips evolved into frenzied exploration, their tongues dancing, plunging deeply and hungrily. She savored his taste. A rush of pleasure rippled through her and she trembled under his attentive suckling.
His mouth released hers, traveled along her jaw and down her throat, his trail of kisses searing into her skin. She clung to a fistful of his thick hair while he alternately nibbled and nuzzled her neck, stoking the fire in her core. When he raised his head to reclaim her lips, she glimpsed a greedy longing in his eyes.
