Every woman wants me–except the one I sing for.
Seattle shakes with anticipation: they call it the concert of the year. They say girls are getting pregnant just thinking about my band being in town.
But when you love a girl, you don’t leave her with nothing but a ring and a promise. Any man with half a brain should know.
So what did I expect my girl would do when she saw me again?
Well, for starters, she loathes our music. Particularly the song I wrote about her.
When I sing it, the stadium is in an uproar. Thousands of fans scream my name like I’m a god–but yeah, not her. Crystal clear: the girl’s not happy to see me.
Black hair, black boots, a bad attitude, that’s her — Pandora Stone is a freaking man-eater and she’s out for my blood.
That’s alright.
Let her come at me. Because I’m out for her heart and, this time, there’s no way she can stop me.
“My nightmare, my dreams, my walking, talking fantasy.”
That description perfectly defines how Pandora feels about her rock star ex, Mackenna Jones. When they were 17 years old, he was her everything – the boy she was going to spend her life with and own every part of her. But then he left, and every thought of Mackenna brought darkness to Pandora’s life and splintered and shattered her heart a little more each time. He completely wrecked her and left her with nothing but pain and regret, which she’s carried with her ever since. For six years, Pandora has not allowed another man into her life. She’s closed herself off to the idea of a relationship because she refuses to be left broken again because even after all these years, she’s never gotten over what he’s done to her. But then Pandora gets a chance to exact her revenge on him – a little pay back for leaving without an explanation and going back on the promise he made her. Revenge may be sweet, but when it backfires, it’s definitely a sour experience, and that is exactly what happens to Pandora, but her punishment may actually be a way for her to get closure or at least torture Mackenna for a few weeks, and she’s so looking forward to that.
From the moment Katy Evans introduces Pandora into the Real series, readers know she’s got a story to tell, and it’s one that’s full of heartache. The persona she’s created tells everyone she’s off limits and refuses to back down to anyone. But that façade is just a construction – one that she uses to hide the damage within – the pain and hurt that she holds inside, almost like a Pandora’s Box – as long as it’s closed and hidden, the past can’t overrun everything, but by her ex coming back to her hometown, all of those feelings are unleashed and hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, especially one as badass as Pandora.
Mackenna’s living the life of a rock star god, but contrary to what Pandora believes, he still thinks about her because she’s a part of him even six years later. He carries a huge amount of regret and guilt, but Pandora wasn’t the only one who got hurt in the relationship. He channeled those feelings and made a name for himself as lead singer of Crack Bikini, creating music that shows how much he suffered by walking away.
Putting Pandora and Mackenna in the same room for any amount of time is a disaster waiting to happen. Neither can be honest nor deal with their twisted past, but they sure know how to give each other’s bodies what they want. But if they don’t address what happened six years ago and place all of their secrets out in the open, Pandora and Mackenna’s second chance at a happily ever after – one that Pandora never felt was for her – is never going to happen.
Ripped is a great addition to Katy Evan’s very popular Real series. I love that Pandora and Mackenna are nothing like the female and male leads from the previous books. This allows for a series to remain fresh while still giving readers a chance to catch up with past main characters. The hurt and pain that Pandora feels is something a lot of readers will be able to relate to and the fact that she follows through with exacting revenge is what many betrayed women envision doing to their own exes. Pandora and Mackenna’s push and pull relationship through most of the book is realistic, especially given that Pandora has a hard time expressing her feelings, which is exactly what Mackenna needs from her. Getting both of their perspectives is essential for their story because if readers were only given Pandora’s side, the storyline would be way too one sided, given the sacrifices on both of their parts.
In true Katy Evans’ fashion, Pandora and Mackenna’s story is a scorching read that also has heartfelt and laugh out loud moments, which completely fits their back story and illustrates how much of a spitfire Pandora is.
Can’t wait to see who’s up next in this kickass series.

About the Author
Katy Evans grew up with books and book-boyfriends until she found a real sexy boyfriend to love. They married and are now hard at work on their own happily ever after. Katy loves her family and friends, and she also loves reading, walking, baking, and being consumed by her characters until she reaches “The End.” Which is, hopefully, only the beginning…
