The Rocker That Holds Her

I had big dreams of how I wanted my life. Becoming a rock star was all I wanted. It would solve so many of my problems. With the money that I would make I was going to take care of my mom, get her out of the hell hole we had been living in all my life. Having your dreams come true isn’t something that many people get to accomplish in life. I did, and I loved it.

For about a minute…

It’s funny how when you think you have everything you could possible every want, your dreams change. Mine did without my even realizing it. Then I opened my eyes and saw that everything I ever wanted was standing in front of me.

From the first day I set eyes on Emmie she became a part of me. The guys and I spent years watching over her, caring for her… Loving her. Then without my realizing it my love for her changed. I found myself aching for her, wanting her in a way that a guy like me had no right to want her. My love and need for Emmie became an all-consuming ache that I was helpless to fight against.

Would she ever open those big green eyes and see me as anything but a friend?

I remember wondering as I was reading The Rocker That Holds Me what Nik was thinking as he saved Emmie from her mother, when he found out that she was pregnant with his child, or even when he tried to make her jealous down in Florida and almost lost her due to his actions. When I heard that there was going to be a book told in Nik’s point of view about his love for Emmie and how they ended up with their happily ever after, I was excited to see what he had to say; he did not disappoint.

Sometimes when a story is simply retold in a different POV, it can be monotonous and the enjoyment of reading it is just not there because there is nothing fresh; The Rocker That Holds Her does not fall into that category. I needed to hear Nik’s side of the story; I wanted to know how he went from Emmie’s protector to her lover. I wanted to understand when it changed for him and what he went through keeping his distance from her all of those years.

I fell in love with Emmie’s and Nik’s story in Book 1, but I felt like it ended too quickly.  There still remained unanswered questions, and I am so glad Ms. Browning offered her readers answers in Nik’s book.  I am a dual point of view junkie; I think the story is shown more clearly when you get both sides of it. I understand why Emmie’s story was only told through her eyes; her story was much more than her love for Nik — her past was beyond horrendous, but she made it through and became much stronger because of it, and her book illustrated her strength and passion to live life on her own terms.

Of all of The Demon’s Wings, Nik, the band’s lead singer is my favorite.  There’s just something about Nik and his protectiveness of his friends/band mates and his “baby doll.” Now, that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to ring his neck when he is bed hopping with groupies and drowning himself in alcohol to help him stay away from Emmie.  It drove me crazy!  Nik’s totally cluelessness about how Emmie feels about him frustrated me as well, but in any relationship, there are missteps and lack of communication at times that threatens to sink the relationship.

I loved that in retelling Nik and Emmie’s love story, Ms. Browning gives readers a true look into their relationship.  The jealousy and petty arguments they experience make it not only realistic but that much sweeter when they finally become man and wife.

The Rocker That Holds Her gave me the closure that I needed for Nik and Emmie’s story.  Overall, this book is a fantastic read. There is steam, a bit of angst, and a whole lot of love. It answered my questions from book one and showed a rocker’s love for his woman and child.

Hated school and reading until her aunt handed over her first romance novel at the age of twelve, as crazy aunts tend to do. It gave her a passion for the written word that has only increased over the years.  At sixteen she started writing her own novellas, forcing her sister to be her one woman fan club. Now she has a few more fans and a lot more passion for writing. Reese: A Safe Haven Novella was her first Indie published book. The Rocker That Holds Me changed the tables and kicked off The Rocker… series featuring the sinfully delicious members of Demon’s Wings.
