Review
Sweet Ruin is the third book in the University of Branton Series. This time, Nazarea Andrews gives readers a threesome with the focus on Megan Beauchamp, Asher Knox, and Luca James. Megan is the ex sister-in-law of Atticus Grimes, the first book’s hero. Megan left her small hometown and headed to Hollywood; now, she works as a PA to one of Hollywood’s hottest leading men, Asher Knox, but Asher doesn’t really want all of the chaos that comes with being a television/movie star, so he makes Megan’s job/life a bit difficult at times. On top of that, there is a lot of sexual tension between the two of them. Asher wants Megan, but Megan follows a firm set of rules and one of them is not sleeping with her clients. Her career and public perception are extremely important to Megan, and she isn’t willing to risk the fallout even though she definitely has feelings for Asher. But everything changes when her uncle, who owns the couple Megan works for, threatens to fire her. With Luca’s help, Asher gets Megan out of Hollywood for a road trip back to her hometown. Luca is Megan’s best friend, and he also has feelings for her, but she’s never wanted to act of them because Luca is into threesomes, and Megan has never wanted to share. But, all of that changes when the three of them are traveling. Megan finally lets down her walls and breaks every rule she’s ever had. She gives into her desires and feelings for both Asher and Luca. But how can this triad work beyond their road trip when public perception is crucial to all three of their careers?
I really enjoyed Sweet Ruin. The story is well written, and because it is told in third person, readers are able to understand all three characters’ thoughts and feelings as they begin this new relationship. The only problem I have with the storyline is how quickly Asher has feelings for Luca and acts on them. Insights are never given into how Asher can go from a straight male to bi-sexual in the span of a few days. I’ve read a lot of stories where insta love happens, and for the most part, I accept the love at first sight idea, but when it deals with a heterosexual male heading into a relationship with both a female and a male, I need a bit more explanation/internal thinking from the character. But despite that, the chemistry between the three characters and the insight into Luca’s past relationship as well as the idea of being able to accept oneself despite what others may think make for a great read.
