Synopsis

“When life threatens perfect, it’s time to step up and kick life in the balls.”

Ella’s perfect moment was taken from her is the worst possible way. Humiliated, heart broken and absolutely determined not to allow her heart be destroyed for a second time, she builds an ice wall around her heart.

Preston has known that he was in love his big sister’s best friend since the age of fifteen. Over ten years on, and an opportunity to be her knight in shining armour is too good to miss. Putting his heart on the line, he’s on a mission to show Ella that the perfect moment is possible.

Ella’s instinct is to run when she realises her feelings for her bestie’s little brother may just run a little bit deeper than just friends. But if she can’t run, she’ll try every trick in the book to shake off his affection and realign his feelings.

She already had her perfect moment, and there is no chance she’ll let her heart thaw for Preston. No matter how good he looks in the firefighter’s Christmas calendar.

 Review

How many of us are waiting for that perfect moment in our life? A time where everything comes together – it feels like the stars align…the clouds clear…the birds sing and all that’s left is sunshine and happiness? Yea, it seems pretty farfetched, but it doesn’t stop us from dreaming about that exact instance, even if it’s rarely experienced.

Ella thought she had that moment, but it actually turned into a nightmare that left her never again seeking “perfection” because, in her mind, it was never going to happen again for multiple reasons…one – she had her moment, and it didn’t work out and two – she would never allow herself to seek out another perfect moment because the fear of getting hurt again is more than she can handle. But what Ella doesn’t seem to realize is that living is not about one perfect instance, but it’s about small defining moments and multiple occurrences of laughter, smiles, and affection, and if she would allow herself to see the bigger picture perhaps she’d find her true moment, which is way better than perfect.

And then it happens unexpectedly…one stolen moment is all it takes for Ella to find her “perfect” match – Preston – her best friend, Jo’s, younger brother and the one guy she can be herself around. A kiss that is supposed to simply help Ella fend off a creep at Jo and Liam’s wedding changes everything between them. But when Ella runs from her feelings because she’s afraid of letting her walls down and ruining her friendship with both Jo and Preston, how can Preston show her that he won’t let her down…that he’s nothing like “fuckwit”?

A Perfect Moment is a fantastic debut novel. Becca Lee does a great job of pulling her readers in with a mix of witty banter, steamy scenes, and a bit of suspense. Ella’s high expectations when it comes to life and love and her apprehension about starting a relationship with Preston definitely makes sense. When someone gets burned by love as badly as Ella did, extreme caution is necessary; does she go a bit overboard – perhaps, but Becca Lee demonstrates Ella’s growth as she comes to terms with her true feelings for Preston and what she wants. Preston is definitely book boyfriend material. He knows he wants Ella, but he also knows that he has to proceed with care or he’s going to lose her before she’s even his. The way he fights for their relationship and proves to Ella that he’s the one for her is swoon worthy.  It’s definitely a sweet and sassy read…one not to miss, and I can’t wait for Jo and Liam’s story!

 About the Author

Spending the last few years near the Queensland coast, Becca is rarely out of the sea or off the beach. Dragging her long board with her and her overworked Kindle Fire, Becca enjoys her three addictions: reading, surfing and ogling surfers, one of whom is her husband of ten years.
She can still be found regularly on the beach with her family. Becca tends to leave the surfing to her boys; she’s far too busy immersed in her own writing or, of course, with her head still buried in a new read.
