REVIEW AND TEASERS: Burn by Callie Hart

Bodybuilder

Synopsis

Sloane

I’m not safe.

I haven’t been safe for a while now.

I ran to Zeth for protection, but Zeth is in danger himself. With Julio on one side, and the leader of the Widow Makers MC on the other, the smartest thing to do would be to run. I’ve been running long enough, though.

This is the closest I’ve come to finding my sister in two years.

I can’t back down now.

Zeth

My right hand man’s being tortured in the basement.

The guy who tried to buy Sloane’s virginity is burning rubber in our direction.

My psychotic boss is on a mission to find me, and the girl I’m supposed to be keeping safe has landed herself right in the middle of all of this.

Just another breezy weekend in the Californian desert.

What could possibly go wrong in the next 48 hours?

Review

What a ride! Burn definitely steps up the action and the WTF moments, and I loved every complicated minute of it. The story begins right where book 2 ended. Seth and Sloane are at Julio’s villa playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with him while looking for Sloane’s sister. As the game continues, Sloane, especially, finds it difficult to keep up their façade, but even when she begins to falter, it almost seems like she channels Zeth’s attitude and sends both Julio and Zeth reeling with her take charge, no bullshit perspective. But Zeth and Sloane as well as readers know it’s only a matter of time before their ruse gets exposed, and they end up in even more danger than they already are.

This is my favorite part of the Blood and Roses series so far because it has the perfect blend of action, steam, and personal growth. Sloane definitely comes into her own in this text. She’s never truly believed that she would find her sister, but now that it actually seems to be happening, she knows she needs to stay strong and do all that she can to ensure they leave this villa unharmed.  She definitely shows what she’s made of while risking her life, and her actions and attitude do not go unnoticed by Zeth. Sloane also sees a different side of Zeth; it’s hard for her to wrap her mind around the fact that Zeth is both dangerous and caring at the same time. She’s seen his dark side on many occasions, but it’s never more blatantly in her face than with what goes down at the villa, and even though it all scares the hell out of her, she can’t help but also see another side of Zeth; the part that would never hurt her – the part that’s doing everything in his power to help save her sister. I love that amongst all of the chaos, Seth and Sloane actually become closer, and they both realize that perhaps they are what each other needs to survive in this crazy ass world where anything can happen.

Burn is an action packed suspense filled ride that, once again, leaves readers with everything up in the air at the end, but I definitely think the cliff hanger is not as bad as the previous books. The sex scenes between Zeth and Sloane are once again scorching, and readers are given a new perspective of Sloane both in and out of the bedroom. This series just keeps getting better and better, and I can’t wait to see how all of it plays out in book 4!
