After all of the heavy storylines I’ve read over the past few weeks, I was really looking forward to diving into Kirsty Dallas’ Decker’s Wood, and it did not disappoint. I love sexy, light-hearted romantic comedies, and the story of a 12 year porn star veteran trying to get his groove back only to realize that an awkward girl from his past is the only one who can help him with his performance issue besides the little blue pills is exactly what I needed.
Meet Decker Steele – the emotionally stunted 32 year old whose dick has allowed him a comfortable living for quite some time. But for some reason, Decker’s head, the one above the waist, is messing with his mojo. He’s a big name in the sex industry, and his manhood’s performance anxiety is sending Decker into a downward spiral. He’s depressed, pissed off, and “sick to death of sex,” and if he doesn’t watch it, with the amount of blue pills he’s taking, sooner or later, his not so little secret is going to be found out and then what?
Enter Andi Jennings – this awkwardly shy southern belle moves to New York in hopes of making her dreams come true by opening up a bookstore. She’s always had a crush on Decker and seeing the lush man again only intensifies those feelings, but she quickly establishes a friends WITHOUT benefits relationship with him because there’s no way she’s letting the self-professed manwhore anywhere near her, especially after she learns what he does for a living.
But as much as they try to keep themselves in the friend-zone, their bodies have other ideas. How does Decker stay away from the one person who only has to be in close proximity to make his manhood stir, and how does Andi deny the need to have the one person she’s always wanted? Can the innocent “country bumpkin” tame the “self-confessed pussy pounding warrior” or will half truths and jealous acquaintances prevent anything real from happening between them?
I loved everything about this book right down to its appropriate and punny title;) Decker’s dry wit, internal monologues, and the banter between him and Andi had me laughing out loud on numerous occasions. Andi is a fantastic heroine. What you see is what you get with her, and Kirsty Dallas allows readers to see every part of who Andi is, which makes her that much more endearing as a character. The supporting cast of characters also makes this book an entertaining read – Casey and Lionel are some of my absolute favorite secondary characters – every time I think about spandex now, I’ll do it with a smile:)
Decker’s Wood is a must read, especially for those readers who love plenty of laughter mixed in with their smut. It has great writing, well developed characters, and a plethora of one-liners that will have you busting at the seams. It’s definitely not your typical porn star storyline, which makes it that much better. It’s a one-click must!
