REVIEW: The Other Side of Someday by Carey Heywood

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00071]

Synopsis:

Falling in love? Courtney Grayson has been there, done that.

Men, who needs them? Love wasn’t everything she thought it would be. This time around she’s doing things differently. She hasn’t sworn off men for good, just isn’t interested in settling. Trusting someone with her heart again? Someday, but not today.

Falling in love? Sorry, Clay Bradshaw is not the guy for you.

He’s never been in love and he doesn’t see it happening. Hooking up can be fun, but more often than not, women are a distraction he doesn’t need. He’s a busy man, and doesn’t have time to date, let alone fall in love. Will someone ever change that? There’s always a chance, someday.

Life doesn’t always go as planned, and love may find them both on the other side of someday.

Review:

We’ve all thought about what our someday would look like…someday, we’ll marry the person of our dreams…someday, we’ll start a family…someday, we’ll have the job we’ve always wanted. But then that someday comes, and what we thought or hoped would happen doesn’t. For Courtney Grayson, the heroine in Carey Heywood’s The Other Side of Someday, her someday came and went when she was betrayed by the man she had spent the last eight years loving. Now, she’s given up on the future she always envisioned for herself. The idea of trusting someone enough to fall in love again is no longer an option for her, or at least that’s what she thinks until Clay Bradshaw shows her that what happens after someday can be so much better.

Clay comes into Courtney’s life when she’s at her lowest, and while there’s an instant attraction between them, she’s not quick to act on it because she doesn’t want to rush right into another relationship; she wants to be able to remember what it feels like to be herself again. Courtney lost who she was as an individual in her relationship with Michael; she gave up things and changed to meet his needs. She doesn’t want that to happen again, so she thinks that she can just casually date a few guys and figure things out as she goes. Clay has never really been in a relationship before, but he’s willing to try because his feelings for Courtney are ones he’s never experienced before. Her idea of dating other men doesn’t work for him, so he goes out of his way to show her how things could be with him, and boy does it work. Courtney can’t stop thinking about Clay, and soon enough, she decides she only wants to be with him. As their connection grows, Clay helps Courtney to rediscover herself; he opens her up to what a relationship should really be like by making sure she knows that he wants her to have her own passions and outlets. Even with all of the family turmoil that circles around them, their bond remains strong, proving to Courtney that Clay can give her the life that she’s always wanted…the life that is beyond someday.

This is my third story by Carey, and what I love most about her writing is that it’s realistic and honest. Her characters are everyday people who have the kind of struggles that a lot of readers experience themselves. The trials and tribulations her heroes and heroines face are not sugar coated or made larger than life; they’re presented in a way that gives hope to all who endure similar situations. Courtney’s struggle to hold on to her individualism while in a relationship is a realistic concern as is the family drama that Clay deals with in terms of his sister and niece. Readers are able to connect to the characters easily because Carey’s writing style and presentation of circumstances allows for it to happen.

The Other Side of Someday is a feel good story about finding out who you truly are and what you truly want. Courtney and Clay are the perfect match because they give each other what they so desperately need, and even though everything may have happened a bit too quickly, it just goes to show what happens when you finally find what you’ve been looking for…there’s no way you can go slow when everything feels so right. It’s a sweet, sexy, and quick read that will have readers looking for what comes after their someday as well.

Excerpt:

“Courtney, I want you anyway I can get you.”

A spark of desire blooms inside my gut.“I want you too.”

He takes a deep breath. “Tell me what you want Courtney.”

I shift, pressing my legs together. “That day, in your condo.”

“Yeah.”

“I didn’t want you to stop.”

I don’t even recognize my own voice.

“I didn’t want to stop.”

I flick off the light. “What would you have done, if you didn’t stop?”

“Where are you?”

“In my room.”

“Are you in bed?”

I wet my lips. “Yes.”

“What are you wearing?”

“A robe.”

He groans. “Are you wearing anything under that robe?”

I gulp. “No.” I hear the rush of air leaving his lungs.

“Will you touch yourself if I tell you?”

I hurry across my room and lock my door. “Do you want me to?”

“God yes.” I giggle, suddenly shy.

“You think I’m funny?”

I cover my face even though he can’t see me.“I’ve never done this before.”

“Does the thought of me touching you turn you on?”

I let out a ragged breath. “Yes.”

“Just imagine your hands are mine. Can you do that?”

“I can.”

“Remember how you were against that window?”

“I do.”

“I wanted you so bad.”

“Tell me.”

“Imagine my hands under your sweater. That innocent looking sweater. Put your hands on your breasts. God they felt so good. Rub your nipples.”

I do as he says. Imagining myself up against that window. His body is pressed up behind me, his hands caressing my breasts and teasing my nipples. I moan.

“You like that don’t you? I slide one hand down your body and stroke your clit.”

I whimper.

“Spread your legs Courtney.” I do as he says, my middle finger teasing my clit. “Are you wet?”

“So wet.”

I gasp. “Fuck. I slide my hand down further and dip it

right into that wetness. Do you like that?”

“Oh, yes.”

“I push it deep before I pull it out and rub your wetness all over your clit.”

“Oh my god.”

“I’m so fucking hard.”

“Are you touching yourself?” I ask.

“I am. You like that?”

“uh hun.”

“What do you want me to do with my cock Courtney?”

“I want you to put it in me.”

“Fuck. Alright, I hitch up that sexy ass skirt you’re wearing and slide your panties down. Your ass is so fucking hot. I pull off your sweater too.”

“Do I move my hands off the window?”

“What?”

“To get my sweater off?” I pant.”

“No keep your hands on the window.”

“How do I get it off.”

“I rip it off. It’s just gone.”

“Okay.”

“I pull your hips back tome and press you hard against the window so your breasts and pressing on the glass. My slide my cock between your legs.”

“When did you take off your clothes?”

“They melted off. Fuck. I don’t know.”I bite back a laugh.

“Am I losing you here?” He asks.

“No, no keep going. Your cock is between my legs.”

“Fuck. Say that again.”

His tone makes me shiver. “Your.” I draw out each word. “Cock is between my legs.”

“God that is sexy. Alright.

So I rub it back and forth across your pussy. I’m still rubbing your clit with one hand.”

“I want you in me.”

“I slide my cock into your tight, wet pussy.”

My finger circles my clit furiously as I imagine him filling me.

“You like my cock Courtney?”

“I do.” “Pinch your nipples.”

I do and feel my orgasm build. “I’m so close.”

“I grab your hips and bury my cock inside you.”

I feel it crest. “Oh God. Oh God. Oh God.”

“Let me hear you come baby.”

“Yes. Oh God. Yes.” “Fuck.” I pant, trying to catch my breath.

“That was so fucking hot.” “Did you?”

“All over my fucking hand.”
