BLOG TOUR STOP: REVIEW, TEASER, AND GIVEAWAY: Tamed by Emma Chase

Tamed

Title: Tamed (Tangled #3)

Author: Emma Chase

Published: July 15, 2014

~ Synopsis ~

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: girl meets player, they fall in love, player changes his ways.

It’s a good story. But it’s not our story. Ours is a lot more colorful.

When I met Dee I knew right away that she was special. When she met me, she thought I was anything but special—I was exactly like every other guy who’d screwed her over and let her down. It took some time to convince her otherwise, but turns out I can make a convincing argument when sex is at stake.

You might know where this story’s headed. But the best part isn’t where we ended up.

It’s how we got there.

TAMED goes back in time to the Tangled days. But this time around, it’s not Drew dishing out the advice and opinions—it’s his best friend Matthew, who of course is dealing with Dee Dee.

~Review~

Anyone who calls himself Drew Evans’ best friend has to know his way around a woman’s body and have the filthy mouth to back it all up, and boy does Matthew Fisher live up to his playboy persona. Before Dee, he was exactly like Drew: having fun with all the “Ms. Wrongs” before finding “Mrs. Right.” But then he meets the eccentric chemist and his bachelor life as he knows it is no longer. But how did Matthew and Dee go from “fuck buddies” to happily ever after? Emma Chase gives her readers the answer to that question in Tamed, book three of her Tangled series. Told strictly from Matthew’s point of view, readers get the inside scoop on what it took to get them there and how they, eventually, “tamed” each other.

One thing that readers need to avoid doing right away is comparing Matt to Drew. He may be Drew’s closest friend, and they do have similar characteristics, but they’re still two different people. He’s not as crass as Drew nor does he need to command a room or have everyone submit to him. I love Drew; he’s a fantastic character, but Matt is as well. If Matt was too much like Drew, there’s no way he would have made it through Dee’s crazy antics, and Dee needed Matt to fight back regardless of how much she pushed him away. Matt’s a good guy who was betrayed by the one woman he loved, so he decided love wasn’t for him, and you can’t blame him because what that bitch did to him really sent him spiraling. But then he meets Dee, and yes, her boobs are the first thing that attracts him to her, but then he gets to know her and the whole package works for him, and he’s willing to give a real relationship a try for the first time in a significant amount of years.

Dee Warren is Kate’s best friend, and she’s definitely a handful. She’s almost like the female equivalent of Drew. When her best friend describes her as the “love-’em, and leave- ‘em-with-bruises type of girl,” readers know she can take care of herself. Dee’s been burned by one too many men, and so she figures if she treats men like toys, there’s no way she can get hurt again. Everything that comes out of her mouth is humorous, witty, and a bit crazy, making her the type of woman who can give the smooth talking Matthew a run for his money. She doesn’t want more from him that a few hot nights in bed, so when she finds herself wanting to spend more time with him and having deeper feelings for him, she freaks out, and it’s up to Matt to decide how to handle her freak out. He could walk away like every other guy has, or he can step up and prove to her that he’s not them nor will he ever be.  But in order for him to prove that to Dee, she’s going to have to let him in, which is easier said than done for a woman who is in her head more than out of it.

Tamed is 100% character driven. There’s hardly any outside drama to deal with, which is good because Dee’s personal issues are more than enough for Matt to handle. The fact that readers get an outside perspective on what is happening between Drew and Kate as Matt and Dee work on their own relationship adds to the dynamics of the series as a whole. All of the supporting characters from Tangled are back in this book. It was interesting to see Matt’s close relationship with Alexandra and MacKenzie and witness the fact that not just Drew helped expand MacKenzie’s inappropriate vocabulary.

In terms of sexy romantic comedies, Emma Chase’s Tangled series is in my top three. There is no other female author that I’ve read that can write from the male perspective as brilliantly as she can. Her characters are no holds barred…what you see is what you get, which makes for a highly entertaining, laugh out loud read. I can’t recommend this series enough. If readers are looking for extremely well crafted texts with a great mix of hilarious and sexy scenes, the Tangled series is a must read.

Eventually, we crawl into the bed, and lay next to each other—me stretched out, Dee in the fetal position.

“This is all your fault,” Dee whimpers.

“You’re right. You’re so right.”

“I hate you. No—I don’t mean that, I like you so much. I think I’m dying, Matthew.”

“You’re not dying. But I might be dying.”

Even though we’re naturally stronger than women, it’s common knowledge that men are ten times more affected by illness. Just ask your husband or your boyfriend.
