Review:
Boy does Cassy Roop know how to keep her readers in suspense! Both Book 1 and 2 end in pretty big cliffhangers that will have readers ready to throw their eReaders across the room, but that’s exactly why her Celtic Knot series is a must read! To be able to have readers that invested in a writer’s storyline illustrates the strength of her writing and the development of her characters.
At the end of Ashley’s Bend, Ashley was blackmailed into betraying the man she loved, and her betrayal led to Dominic being taken away in handcuffs, and her heart being destroyed. Figure Eight picks up right where book 1 left off, and the fallout from Ashley’s actions continue to play out. Everyone Ashley is close to has turned on her due to her lies, and now, she’s left b to deal with the people who are not only ruining her relationship with Dominic but also trying to destroy his life and career. She has no way out of the situation she finds herself in because the risks are too high for those she cares about, so as she tries to figure out a way to turn the tables on her blackmailers, she has to go it alone, which may end up destroying her more than anything else. And then there’s Dominic…the one woman he allowed into his life fully ends up doing the most damage, and he doesn’t know how to handle it. His head tells him to forget her and get his revenge, but his heart and body still desperately want her, which leaves him quite conflicted. Will the truth finally surface? Can Ashley and Dominic repair their bond, or will they be left to pick up the pieces alone and shattered?
Figure Eight is an absolute gem of a read. Because it is written from both Ashley and Dominic’s perspectives, readers see the torment and anguish both are experiencing due to those wreaking havoc on their lives. Cassy Roop does a tremendous job of allowing us to understand the difficult position both are in and feel their emotions unravel through the development of her characters. The storyline flows smoothly, and the suspense builds throughout the text until secrets are exposed. There are plenty wtf moments, and while the truth seems to be prevailing, there’s still plenty left up in the air by the time the ending arrives, which will leave readers questioning Ashley and Dominic’s fates.
I usually don’t have a problem waiting for the next book in a series to come out, but I will be waiting impatiently for this one because from the beginning of book 1 until the end of book 2, I could not put them down. I read them both in one day and was left thinking about Ashley and Dominic’s story for days after. Hopefully, when book three releases, Ashley and Dominic will get the reunion that I’ve been hoping for since the end of Ashley’s Bend. I can’t wait to see how it will all play out!
