In its simplest terms, Precarious, the title of Bella Jewel’s newest release, is defined as dependent on circumstances beyond one’s control; uncertain; unstable; insecure; dependent on the will or pleasure of another; liable to be withdrawn or lost at the will of another.
When readers are introduced to the main characters, Ash (Wildcard) and Beau (Krypt), those definitions seem to be anything but true, but as their lives get a bit more complicated, it’s easy to see that the precarious position they find themselves in with each other, the Joker’s Wrath Motorcycle Club, and a multitude of enemies gunning for them, is exactly that – out of control and consumed with chaos and a multitude of emotions that threaten to destroy them both.
Ash is a female prison guard who is stubborn as hell and doesn’t back down from anyone. She holds her own in a profession and an atmosphere consumed with testosterone and criminals. One thing she prides herself in is her control, but when Beau Dawson enters her prison, her attraction to him catches her off guard, and despite his ill seeming attitude and aggressive behavior, Ash actually thinks Beau’s a good person whose bad actions were prompted by extenuating circumstances. And, when strange events happen that prompt Beau’s transfer to a maximum security prison, Ash’s orderly and disciplined life gets turned upside and down, leading her down a path of messed up situations full of danger, passion, jealousy, and betrayal.
Beau is the vice president for the Joker’s Wrath Motorcycle Club. He’s known as Krypt by his brothers, which is what he prefers to be called because the club is his life. He lives by their code and puts his life in their hands when the Tinman’s Soldiers MC try to take him out. Anyone who’s against Krypt’s club is as good as dead, but when Ash gets put in the middle of a war she knows nothing about, he does his best not only to protect her from his enemies, but from his own club that only sees her as a liability. He promises Ash that he won’t allow anything bad to happen to her, but when their physical attraction towards each other turns in to more, can Ash live the life of a biker’s old lady or will Beau’s promise be put to the test against the one person Ash thought was never a risk – himself?
In Precarious, there’s two prominent storylines occurring at the same time – the war between the Joker’s Wrath and Tinman’s Soldiers and the push and pull relationship between Ash and Krypt. Neither have easy solutions, especially with the multiple players involved in both unsteady situations. It’s going to require manipulation, deception, and quick thinking to get out of one of them while the other needs to be handled with a bit more care because when it comes to matters of the heart, especially in the biker world, taking the easy road only leads to heartache and loneliness. Ash and Beau may come from two different worlds, but if they want to find a way to be together, they’re going to have to give up a bit of their control and figure out a way to make their precarious situation a stable one.
Bella Jewel definitely knows her way around the biker world and the alpha males that consume it. Her ability to write in multiple perspectives and put readers into the psyches of all those telling the story allows us to experience each situation first hand. The emotions that the characters feel are felt by the readers as well because their thoughts and feelings are tangible ideas that are expressed fully in each and every scene. One thing about Jewel’s writing that always comes through is the importance of her secondary characters. They are just as paramount to the story as the hero/heroine; in some ways, more so, because they give readers an outside perspective that is needed to understand everything at play.
Precarious is a fantastic first book in what is going to be one hell of an MC series. Santana’s story intrigues me, so I’m excited that she’s up next, and with a controlling man like Maddox, it’s hard to say how it’s all going to shake out.

I snort. “You read too many books. No, I’m not going to tell you that. Firstly, I don’t hate you, Beau. I don’t know what your life is about, but there’s a big story behind your stormy eyes and I’m sure you have a reason for being the way you are.”
His eyes darken, but he says nothing.
“And secondly, I haven’t been fucked for over twelve months. I might be pissed at you for hurting me and dragging me into the wilderness, but I won’t deny that the idea of fucking you turns me on.”
He growls.

Bella Jewel is an Aussie girl through and through. She spent her life in Western Australia, growing up in many different areas of the state. She now currently lives in Perth with her husband, children and mass amounts of pets. She’s crazy, fun, outgoing and friendly. Writing is her passion, she started at the young age of 18 but finally got the courage up to publish, and her first novel Hell’s Knights was released in August 2013.
