Milly Taiden’s Sassy Mates series is full of filthy mouthed alpha males and feisty, smart mouthed females – the perfect type of duo to take readers on one hell of a hot and wild adventure. Each book in the series is the perfect mix of sexual tension, steamy scenes, drama, and action. Aric and Jordan and Nate and Karla’s stories are great reads, but Jake and Nicole’s story is by far my favorite of the three.

Like the previous two couples, Jake and Nic’s connection begins at the scenting ceremony where Jake finally takes the woman he’s wanted for quite some time, and when they finally do give into their desire for one another, it’s beyond explosive. But even after their night together, Nic does everything she can to avoid any one on one contact with Jake because, in her mind, there’s no way the “manwhore mutt” can settle down with only one girl. Now, it’s eight months later and Nic’s still playing her game of avoidance and Jake is ready to come unglued, so when Nic and her girls head to Vegas for a little R and R, the Wolfe brothers follow, and the age old saying of what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas is definitely put to the test in more ways than one.

Jake’s always wanted Nicole, but he’s a man of action and the only words he’s used to uttering are the ones that will have a female wet and willing. Even though Nic has a hard time showing emotions, she needs to hear how Jake feels about her with more than just a bunch of filthy words used to get into her pants. Her feelings for Jake scare her to death and if she feels like she’s going to be rejected, there’s no way she’s going to put herself out there and risk being humiliated. Jake definitely has his work cut out for him if he’s going to prove to Nic that he’s worth the risk, and with a rival alpha after her, a slew of misunderstandings, and the despicable choices made by Nic’s cold hearted parents, their mating is definitely going to have to be fought for, and if Nic can’t fight through her fears and understand that despite her cold upbringing she does know how to love and care for someone, it’s never going to work for them.

Unexpectedly Mated is a fantastic addition to the Sassy Mates series. I love catching up with the Wolfe brothers and their significant others as well as their family members. Jake’s mom is an amazing character, and she continues to shine in Jake and Nic’s story. No matter if the scene involves sex, action, or angst, Milly Taiden’s writing pulls readers in and keeps them there until they see how everything plays out. What I also love about her paranormal stories is that the mystical elements are there, but they don’t dominate the texts – the characters and the storylines do, which makes them extremely enjoyable reads.

I can’t wait to see what couple is up next in the Sassy Mates series!

Jake growled. She widened her eyes in disbelief. “Did you just growl at me you big mutt?”

The wolf prowled around her in a full circle. She couldn’t figure out what the hell Jake thought he was doing, but she had to get off that grass. There was shit in it and she couldn’t see it for the life of her. She lifted a hand to her ear. The others were much too quiet. Her hand touched a small diamond stud. She’d lost the ear piece.

“Fuck!”

Jake growled again.

“Shut it, mutt. If you’re not here to help me, then you better go,” she hissed, then tapped the massive wolf’s nose and turned. Now on all fours, she tried to peer into the darkness for the ear piece.  “This is the shit I get into for minding other people’s business. If I’d have stayed home and bought shoes online, this wouldn’t have happened,” she mumbled, feeling along the blanket for the small piece of technology. “I could be having a nice Apple Martini or a Cosmo and watching my man Vin Diesel riding the streets in his latest flick. But no, I had to come here to see what all the fuss was about with mating between shifters.”

She didn’t care that she continued to ramble while Jake, in the form of a wolf, stood behind her. The idea of him as nothing more than a possible pet was easier to handle than his sexy human face. Or those big arms. Or those washboard abs. She gulped. Crap if she continued to think of him as a man, she’d end up all kinds of turned on.
