Within the walls of this hospital, there’s an angel in bed who is innocent and pure of heart – but her heart is also damaged, which forces her to remain inside the walls of her home, her bedroom, and a lot of the time, her hospital room. Within these walls, Lailah is sheltered, watching life go by instead of experiencing it for herself. She knows pain and suffering because she’s had to endure a lot with her heart defect, but she’s never felt the ups and downs that life throws at people, and she yearns for the day when she can be free from the walls that confine her.
Within the walls of this hospital, there’s the ghost of a woman who was once everything to many people, but especially one, and when Megan left him before their lives even really started, his life was destroyed, and he couldn’t bear to leave the same walls where he had to let her go. So, Jude stayed behind, giving up his future to live in the past, in his memories of Megan and all that they shared but never would again.
Within the walls of this hospital, there’s a shadow of a man who is stuck between the past and the present. Jude roams the hospital and mourns the loss of Megan every day because his life was over the day she died. For three years, Jude has done little else but work in the place his heart broke, attempting to soothe his broken heart but having little success. Within these walls, Jude finds solitude, memorializing his life for a woman who can no longer feel his love but that doesn’t matter to Jude because as long as he stays within the confines of the hospital, he at least can live in the memories of his lost love.
Within the walls of this hospital, Jude meets Lailah and his life gets a little lighter and a whole lot brighter. The numbness that he has felt for over three years slowly starts to dissipate each time he talks with her or helps her live a little. Lailah’s hospital room becomes a place where two hearts work to be mended and lives look to be reborn. But in matters of the heart, nothing is easy, and in order to get both Lailah and Jude’s hearts working in their proper way, both may have to go beyond the walls that have helped them cling to each other and find a way to live outside these walls for good.

Jude and Lailah are extremely dynamic characters who become even more complex as their journey continues. Readers understand both of them so much better because we get their first hand perspectives. We know everything that each one is thinking and feeling, which makes us even more invested in helping them to heal and live again.
Within These Walls is a story of redemption, sacrifice, and rebirth. It’s about letting go of the past and reveling in the opportunity of having a future despite all that has been lost. It’s a story where chocolate pudding leads to love and the fairy tale princess stuck in the tower, or in this case the hospital bed, is saved by a prince who may be a bit scarred but is definitely up for the challenge of making her feel whole again.
