BLOG TOUR STOP: REVIEW, EXCERPT, TEASERS, AND GIVEAWAY: Trashy by Cambria Hebert

Synopsis
She’s trying to move on, but the past won’t let her go.
I fell in love once.
It was a big mistake, but the biggest mistake of all was staying with him.
He pushed me around. He cheated and treated me like trash.
I don’t feel sorry for myself, because I let him.
But no more.
I moved out. I’m saving my stripper’s salary for an education that will get me somewhere better.
But breaking the chains of a shitty past isn’t easy. He says I owe him. He says we aren’t done. I don’t care what he says anymore.
I do care about Adam.
But my history tells me I’m not the best judge of men. And the fact Adam’s been married four times tells me he probably isn’t a safe choice.
I need safe. I need better. I need out.
If the past is any indication of my future, getting out isn’t going to be easy.

Review (4)

I love Cambria Hebert’s Take It Off series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but there are similar elements involved in many of the books. Readers almost assuredly will be brought into somewhat dangerous circumstances, both physically and emotionally. Some stories focus more on suspense while at the center of others is how the couple works through their issues to find something that works for both of them.

Trashy, book 10 of the series, has a great blend of both the emotional and physical dangers that threaten to come between the main characters, but it’s more than that as well.  The title speaks to what’s at the heart of this book – the idea that people’s perception of someone – whether it be due to his/her job/looks/actions infer that, that person is trash and therefore doesn’t deserve any good in his/her life. For a long time, due to an abusive boyfriend, Roxie has felt worthless. By being weak and naïve, she allowed her ex, Craig, to treat her poorly while still remaining with him. Now, with the help of her boss and secret crush, Adam, she’s making better choices and not allowing her past decisions to continue to define her. Her job as a stripper might be looked down upon by many, but it’s not who she is, and she takes responsibility for her actions as the story progresses and learns to believe in herself and her self worth.

Adam wants nothing more than to protect and possess Roxie, and now that his divorce is final, he’s making it his mission to finally get the girl who he thinks may be his “one.” Yes, he may not be the safe bet due to his string of divorces, but he’s the one who can make Roxie feel like the treasure she is and take care of her at all costs, which at this point is quite high due to her nasty ex and what he feels she owes him.

Trashy is a great addition to the Take It Off series. I love how focused the story is on Roxie’s growth as a self assured person and the fact that Adam steps up to claim her and goes out of his way to make her feel like she’s worth the danger he might be facing at the hands of her ex. 10 books in and this series just keeps getting better. Any book in the series is a definite must click!

Excerpt
“Kiss me.”

He didn’t need to be told twice. In seconds he was standing to his full impressive height and towed me up along with him. Adam released my hand and cupped my face. His hands engulfed my jaw but he was so gentle. His eyes swept over me like I was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen and around us sparks flew like snowflakes in a blizzard.

Instead of crushing his mouth to mine like I expected, like I wanted, he took his time. His heated gaze dropped to my lips, then back to my eyes. His fingers spasmed against my head and tightened ever so slightly.

Slowly, slowly he lowered his head, cupping my jaw so that I could do nothing but hold still and wait for him to arrive.

The anticipation of his lips on mine was almost my undoing. Everything going on inside me head floated away. I became aware of the moment, of the quietness in the room, of the way my body swayed wanting to get closer.

Adam’s lips brushed over mine, a gentle caress, once, twice and then a third time. He lifted his head just slightly and stared down at me, his thumb climbed up and caressed my lower lip.

He smiled softly and then joined our lips once more.

Cambria Hebert is the author of the young adult paranormal Heven and Hell series, the new adult Death Escorts series, and the new adult Take it Off series. She loves a caramel latte, hates math and is afraid of chickens (yes, chickens). She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair. She currently lives in North Carolina with her husband and children (both human and furry) where she is plotting her next book.
