Review

When Wildcard’s third volume opens up, Ryder and Scarlett are trying to make their relationship work while they also work to conceal their roles in taking care of Scarlett’s ex, and while readers can tell that Ryder is truly invested in his feelings for Scar, the secrets and lies they are hiding threaten to tear them apart. But coming clean is the farthest thing from Scarlett’s mind because she thinks that if Ryder learns the truth, he’ll walk away from her without looking back.

Ryder has definitely changed for the better since the beginning of his story. He could have easily thought Scarlett wasn’t worth all of the drama that has entered his life since they met and found a bevy of ready and willing women to occupy his time, but he’s truly in this relationship with her and ready to see what their future holds. Scarlett needs to stop living in a constant state of regret and worry and trust that Ryder will stick with her because he’s gone out of his way to prove that to her.

Scarlett’s secret is finally revealed, and it definitely wasn’t something I saw coming. It does make sense that she would worry about how Ryder would react, but I also think she didn’t give Ryder enough credit. Readers know that our sexy alpha is no choir boy; I mean look at what he was doing that caused him to drop out of tennis, so while he might have been put off by the news, it wouldn’t have lasted, and he wouldn’t have dropped her just because of it.

I think Scarlett’s lack of honesty and her hot and cold demeanor towards Ryder turned me off from the story for a bit, but once she got her act together, which took quite awhile, I enjoyed their banter and steamy scenes together and held out hope for their happy ending.

Overall, I really enjoyed Missy Johnson’s Wildcard serial. The first two volumes had me hooked, and while the last one didn’t captivate me as much as the previous ones, getting to see Ryder’s growth and the changes he made in his life not only for Scarlett and her son but for himself definitely makes this a great story; the hot sex and dirty talks doesn’t hurt either;)

Missy lives in a small town in Central Victoria with her husband, and her confused pets (a dog who think she’s a cat, a cat who thinks he’s a dog…you get the picture).

When she’s not writing, she can usually be found looking for something to read.
