Reapers stand - blog tour

Blurb

As Reapers Motorcycle Club president, Reese “Picnic” Hayes has given his entire life to the club. After losing his wife, he knew he’d never love another woman. And with two daughters to raise and a club to manage, that was just fine with him. These days, Reese keeps his relationships free and easy—he definitely doesn’t want to waste his time on a glorified cleaning lady like London Armstrong.

Too bad he’s completely obsessed with her.

Besides running her own business, London’s got her junkie cousin’s daughter to look after—a more reckless than average eighteen-year-old. Sure she’s attracted to the Reapers’ president, but she’s not stupid. Reese Hayes is a criminal and a thug. But when her young cousin gets caught up with a ruthless drug cartel, Reese might be the only man who can help her. Now London has to make the hardest decision of her life—how far will she go to save her family?

Review

Any story that has Reese “Picnic” Hayes as the hero is bound to be a bit grittier and darker than the other motorcycle club books that focus on younger bikers. Don’t get me wrong, any biker book has the potential to include copious amounts of angst, violence, and destruction, but for someone like Picnic, who has lived the life for quite a long time and has endured heartache that has twisted his soul, he’s already in a dark place, and when you put betrayal, secrets, and lies into the mix, crazy situations have the potential to explode into deadly chaos, which is exactly what happens when London Armstrong and her drama enters Picnic’s life.

For a 43 year old man, Picnic still has it…just ask any of the biker whores he uses to get off with. Since he lost his wife, Heather, his life has been a continuum of women, booze, and biker business. He’ll never take another old lady because there’s not a woman out there that will ever take Heather’s place, so Picnic does what he needs to do to get a release and stay focused on what’s important: his club, his brothers, and his daughters. On the outside, Picnic is a real hardass; he’s definitely someone you don’t want to mess with, but because Wlyde allows readers into Reese’s head, we understand how Heather’s loss has shaped him and his memories of her and his love for his daughters show a different side of him – one that knows how to love deeply but he never allows himself to because of his feelings for his deceased wife. But something changes when London Armstrong enters his life, and regardless of the hands off approach he tries to take with her, Picnic wants her desperately, and he always gets what he wants one way or another.

London Armstrong is a strong, independent woman who wants nothing to do with the bikers she cleans for; she doesn’t completely understand their lifestyle, but she knows the danger and illegal activities that surround it, and her straight laced routine doesn’t exactly fit nor does she want it to. But when she has to go to the Reapers’ club to retrieve her cousin, she winds up owing Picnic a favor – one that will force her to spend more time than she’s willing to spend with the rough and foul mouthed President. London can’t deny the attraction she feels towards Reece, but it’s nothing she’s willing to act on. Soon, though, it’s almost as if she doesn’t have a choice but to give in and succumb to their shared lust, causing them to start down a path that in London’s mind doesn’t have a happy ending, because she’s perfectly aware that Reece is only into her for a good time. But then things change and feelings start to factor in, the only problem is, shortly after, London is put in a no win situation and one decision can cost her everything – her life, her cousin, and the man who has come to mean everything to her. And what ensues due to the choices of not only London but all those involved will be life altering, regardless of how everything plays out.

I loved Reaper’s Stand. The storyline is intense due to the plethora of problems that London and Picnic endure, both individually and together, which makes for an exciting and angst filled read. Their developing relationship is not an easy one because of the baggage they both bring and the choices that have to be made after outside forces step in, but their attraction and connection to each other is something that can’t be denied regardless of how much one or both want it to be multiple times throughout the story. I loved being inside both Reece’s and London’s mind; those are the times readers can really see how different they are, but also how much they compliment the other one. It’s also where we get to understand how deep Reece’s bond was with Heather, which adds depth to his character. Joanna Wylde’s Reapers MC series is one of my favorites of all time because she provides readers with an insider’s view of the workings of a motorcycle club and the hell and damnation that comes along with it as well as the brotherhood and passion that drives each one of the bikers in the business and personal lives. It takes a group of kickass women to put up with a bunch of rowdy alpha men and the women Wylde write as the heroines definitely step up to the challenge. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for more of the Reapers men!

“So I guess this probably means our deal is off?”

Her voice sounded uncertain, almost scared. Still a little slurred, too. I turned to glare at her, taking in her tangled blonde hair, the curve of her generous hips in those tight jeans and the way her shirt drooped low enough to show plenty of cleavage.

“Not if you want to keep the club accounts,” I growled, wondering why the hell I didn’t just fire her ass. My cock reminded me that we weren’t finished with her yet. “I’ll see you out at my place on Tuesday. Make enough food for leftovers and maybe we’ll have a talk about getting a crew into The Line.”

“Thank you,” she whispered.

“Eat shit,” I said, and then slammed out the door.

Seems like a bit of an overreaction, Heather gloated as I climbed into my truck.

She could eat shit, too. Fucking women. Even dead, they stuck together.
