Throughout the entire After Dark series, Alexander Avery promised Angel that he would prove he’s worth the risk despite his checkered past with women and her hesitancy to give her heart away to him, and as the epic conclusion, Promises After Dark begins, Alex is hellbent on ensuring Angel becomes his forever by any means necessary. With the constant threat of Mark Swanson and his goons, the risks become even greater for everyone Alex and Angel are close to, which means it’s time for Alex to step up and end it once and for all in order to claim the woman who’s had his heart since he saw her stunning beauty in Home Depot and heard her sexy voice on the radio all those months ago.
Promises After Dark has everything readers have come to expect from Kahlen Aymes. Her stories are very much character driven, and we have been a part of Alex and Angel’s love story from the very beginning, witnessing Alex change from the man only in need of an emotionless release to the devoted boyfriend to a woman who means everything to him. There have definitely been some bumps along the way in Alex’s transformation, but he quickly has grown to understand that being with Angel makes him a better man, so regardless of how much she fights their relationship, especially at the beginning, he’s not giving her up.
Angeline Hemming is a force of nature whose past drives her to help those in need. She’s guarded her heart for so long, but little by little, she has succumbed to Alex’s charm and wit, and now she can’t imagine her life without him. She’s an independent woman, so it’s been incredibly difficult for her to give up control to her alpha man, but she does, knowing that he has her best interests at heart, and with everything that Mark Swanson has done to threaten her and the ones she loves, she needs Alex more than ever, and he continues to come through in a big way.
The conclusion of Alex and Angel’s story is one filled with suspense, drama, and ardor. Through most of the story, I was on the edge of my seat wondering how this game of cat and mouse with Mark Swanson was going to play out. I couldn’t turn the pages quick enough because Aymes’ writing had me captivated and eager to find out how it all ends for the good doctor and her handsome protector. Not only is the suspense more intense, but the connection between Alex and Angel also transforms. There’s always been passion between them, but now that they have fully given themselves to each other, the sex scenes have an added nuance to them that clearly illustrate how far their relationship has come and how perfect they truly are for one another.
The entire After Dark series is an amazing journey not only for Alex and Angel but also for readers as we are there with them from beginning to end, experiencing all the ups and downs they do as they try to figure out where they fit into each other’s lives and what that means to a man who’s never allowed emotions to factor in and a woman who is driven by them. I hate to say goodbye to Alex and Angel, but I hope that a few supporting characters’ stories will be told, and we’ll get to catch up with them again.

I have this insane need to pleasure you until you beg me to stop and my name falls from lips that are swollen from my kisses. I want you to forget everything but me … to make you forget anyone else you’ve ever been with. I need to mark you, to own you body and soul-” he paused when Angel’s brow shot up in mock reprimand, but still, he could see her defiance battling with how she felt. He smiled softly, letting out a small huff, then continued to bare his soul. “-until you’ll never want another man to touch you. Never again. Because if you let that happen, I’ll be destroyed; it will literally kill me. If anything happened to you, I don’t know what I’d do. I can tell you I love you, but it’s not enough to explain it.” His chest pushed into hers as he took a deep breath, and she could feel his heart pounding above hers. “I’m- fucking consumed.”

I was born in the Midwestern United States and educated at a private university where I received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Business Administration.
I’ve always been creative with art, music, theater and writing. I decided to write a story as a way to build a network for a business venture. The reader support of my stories and my overwhelming desire to find out where my characters would take me, soon had the writing morphing the business. No one was more shocked than I.
