Synopsis

Georgie

I lie to survive.

Have since I was sixteen and my world fell into chaos. But I found a way to endure, or rather it found me. Now I’m a prisoner of my own doing, hiding behind a false mask so no one sees the truth. Not even the man I want but can’t have—Deck. But I messed up and the lies are spilling over, out of control.

Deck is unrelenting and will settle for nothing less than the truth. He demands everything from me—EVERYTHING—even if it rips me apart.

DECK

I kill for a living.

Unyielding—It’s how I survive in my line of work. I bend people to my will…except Georgie.
But that ends now.
I’ve played her game for far too long, but not anymore. Now I think it’s time we play mine.

*18+ due to sexual content, strong language and violence.

Review

Perfect Chaos ~ it’s such a contradictory phrase – two words at odds with one another, never finding a balance because they’re at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of their meanings. But, if you look closer at the term, you realize it’s quite paradoxical as well – a seemingly odd pair of words that actually hold a hidden truth in its meaning because perfection is such an unattainable goal that it leads to chaos in trying to achieve it and then when life is altered, it’s a perfect storm of destruction and pain.

Georgie’s life epitomizes this description after her brother dies and her innocence is shattered. Those two incidences blow her world apart and leave her a shell of her former self. She’s consumed with pain, rage, and guilt for pretending to be someone she’s not to the one person who means more than anything to her – Deck. But he’s made their relationship clear from the beginning, refusing to go back on his word to her brother. So, Georgie does what she has to do to keep the demons from pulling her under. She creates a façade for all those around her; no one can know the truth…no one can see beneath her mask because the darkness is too much and the danger is even more severe. But this version of Georgie that she portrays to everyone is not the real Georgie – the one that Deck has been trying to find for many years now. He may not know what happened to her or why she pretends to be someone she’s not, but he sure as hell is going to find out because contrary to what Georgie believes, she’s the color to his darkness and he’s just as consumed with her as she is with him. He just understands the severity of their circumstances more clearly that Georgie does and won’t put her at risk any more than he has to…but sometimes circumstances, no matter how closely managed, can spiral out of control until there’s no choice but to claim what you’ve always wanted but never felt worth having.

Since meeting Deck in the Tear Asunder series, I’ve always wondered what it would take for the unyielding and stoic alpha male to finally give in to his feelings for Georgie because his weakness for her has been evident from the very beginning. It’s clear behind the cool mask that Deck wears is a tormented man full of darkness and pain who needs a release but is too fearful of what exposing his only weakness might do to the people who matter most to him. He’s a protector by nature and that is what drives him to stay away from Georgie, always keeping her at arm’s length for both of their safety. Readers can tell that Deck’s tight hold on the passion and lust he feels for Georgie has been slipping for some time now, and when he finally releases it, the explosion is going to be well worth the wait for both Georgie and Deck.

There’s interconnectedness between the devious players and dark storyline that began in the Tear Asunder series, and as it continues in Deck and Georgie’s story, readers get a clearer picture as to what Deck and his men do and the kind of danger that surrounds them on a daily basis. Nothing is as it seems in this life of chaos that Georgie and Deck find themselves in, but it is what it is – now, it’s up to them to choose the path that will provide them with moments of perfection in the mayhem and those times begin and end with Georgie and Deck together.

Nashoda Rose is a magnificent storyteller. The way she builds her characters and her storylines allows readers to truly understand who the characters are at their cores and why the choices they make are the only ones they can. Every moment in her texts is a catalyst for future events, which makes it necessary to pay close attention to all of the incidences and absorb all of the drama, angst, and darkness that surrounds the main characters so that the resolutions make sense.

I’ve been waiting for Georgie and Deck’s story for quite some time, so I’m ecstatic that it was everything I wanted it to be. Both of them are fantastic main characters who have multiple layers that slowly unravel as the story progresses. The connection they have shared since the beginning of their relationship makes for a slow burn at the start of their story, but it’s so worth the wait to witness them both finally getting the one person they’ve always wanted and truly deserve.

I can’t wait to read more from the Unyielding series!
