There are two sides to James Black: the hot shot actor who commands a following wherever he goes and lives up to his demanding, arrogant persona and the mysterious man whose past defines him way more than he would ever make public. The first personality is the one the media and society sees on a regular basis, and it’s the one that’s allowed James to make a name for himself. The later is one only a select few see because the wounds are too deep and there’s more than him to think about when it comes to who James Black once was.
As the story begins and James meets his driver, Avangeline “AJ” Price, a smart and sassy woman who refuses to bow down to the handsome movie star, he realizes that he may just have met his match – someone who refuses to put up with his bullshit and loves to tell him like it is at every turn. At first, James and AJ’s animosity for each other is all there is between them, but as they get to know each other and spend more time together, their walls drop a little bit and they start to see what’s beneath their hardened exteriors.
Trust is a huge issue for any new couple, but it’s essential for AJ because dishonesty is what forced her to construct her walls in the first place, leading her down a path where love wasn’t something she would even consider. James has secrets that he holds close to the vest, and he understands what’s at stake if they get exposed, but what he never counted on was meeting someone he wanted to tell those truths to and despite the risk and pain it may cause him, he knows he needs to come clean, even if, after the fact, it might cost him everything, including AJ.
I’m a huge Skye Turner fan; I adore her writing and the characters and storylines she creates. I really enjoyed James Black and the ever feisty AJ; the environment Skye stages her story in is also written well, allowing her readers to visual its aesthetics. Where I got a little tripped up in this one is with James’ choices and actions towards the end of the book. On a certain level, I get the reasons he does what he does, but I have to admit, it gutted me because AJ gave him her heart freely, which was such a huge step for her, and he risked it all for what really – the past…the memories… But my reaction to the situation also speaks to Skye Turner as a writer because anytime a writer can pull out those kind of emotions from a reader, she does her job and she’s done it well.

Prologue
James
Bright lights, big city… the perfect place to lose yourself.
That’s the impression I first got of Los Angeles and it’s the impression I still have today. The city of Lost Angels. I fit right in here, though I’d call myself more of a devil on any given day.
This is where I started over. This is where the boy with nothing took on the world and became the man who has people at his beck and call for every little whim.
As I look around at my hillside mansion overlooking the city, I laugh cockily at the way life has panned out.
Do I have love? No, but I have money. I have adoring fans and people follow me wherever I go. It works.
Is it a perfect life? Of course not. Being in the public eye, never having any privacy… But, it is what it is and it’s the life I’ve chosen. It’s the life for me.
The large clock chimes in the foyer and I glance at my bags near the door. The limo driver should be pulling up at any second.
Next stop… Louisiana. Not at all where I want to spend the next year and a half of my life, but it’s where filming is and filming keeps my bank account happy. All of them. This three movie deal should easily drop another chunk of change into them.
Not that I money is something I really need more of.
Smiling at the thought and the irony of that logic, I open the door just as the bell rings.
“Mr. Black. Good morning, Sir. I’ll get your bags into the car and in just a few minutes, we’ll be off. Is there anything else you need before we head to the airport?”
I think about that…
“No, I think I’m good.”
He nods, “Very good, Sir. Let me take these.”
