About HARD TO BE GOOD

Hard Ink Tattoo owner Jeremy Rixey has taken on his brother’s stateside fight against the forces that nearly killed Nick and his Special Forces team a year before. Now, Jeremy’s whole world has been turned upside down—not the least of which by a brilliant, quiet blond man who tempts Jeremy to settle down for the first time ever.

Recent kidnapping victim Charlie Merritt has always been better with computers than people, so when he’s drawn into the SF team’s investigation of his army colonel father’s corruption, he’s surprised to find acceptance and friendship—especially since his father never accepted who Charlie was. Even more surprising is the heated tension Charlie feels with sexy, tattooed Jeremy, Charlie’s opposite in almost every way.

With tragedy and chaos all around them, temptation flashes hot, and Jeremy and Charlie can’t help but wonder why they’re trying so hard to be good…

Liability…Helpless…Disappointment…Hopeless

All of these feelings and more surround Jeremy Rixey and Charlie Merritt; so much so, that they’re extremely hesitant to make a move on what they both truly want…each other. But Jeremy and Charlie are going to have to push through their guilt and fear in order realize that they deserve just as much happiness as everyone else on the Hard Ink team, and Charlie, especially, is going to have to move beyond his father’s harsh words and accept who he is in order to get what the desires.

Jeremy and Charlie’s story is the one I’ve been waiting for because, as a reader, I’ve witnessed firsthand their attraction for one another grow only to be suppressed due to exterior circumstances and influences. Both have struggled to find their place in all of the chaos going down around them, but slowly, they’ve gained some ground and helped where they can, but the one thing they’re still neglecting is themselves.

It’s not an easy situation that Jeremy and Charlie find themselves in, but it’s also the place their family and friends have found love, so why can’t they because they need one another in order to find some solace in all of the bad events that continue to occur.

What I love most about Jeremy and Charlie’s novella is that while the central plot of the series is advanced with new found evidence and game plans, the focus is Jeremy and Charlie finally giving into their feelings for one another and expressing their connection through words and actions despite Charlie’s fears and hesitancies.

Laura Kaye delivers a fantastic story in Hard to Be Good; she expertly conveys the deep feelings Jeremy and Charlie have for each other through every tender and sexy moment they share. It blows me away that this is  Kaye’s first endeavor into the M/M genre because she absolutely nails the romance and sizzling connection between Jeremy and Charlie and leaves readers, myself included, desperately wanting more to their story.
