My mother always told me that the best things in life needed to be earned and not given.

Thankfully, Anthony Gallo took that advice to heart because boy did Maxine make him work for EVERYTHING when it came to spending time with her, breaking down her walls, and making her admit her true feelings for him.

But if there’s one word to describe Anthony, besides asshole, which seems to be most females’ word of choice for him, it’s definitely persistent. And little by little, with his tenacious and perhaps at times manipulative ways, he found a way to get to her despite the lies, secrets, and bitchiness she used to deny him on a habitual basis.

On the surface, Anthony doesn’t seem like a complicated man. Sex, work, family, and having fun have always been the name of the game for him, which has been only further solidified as he’s witnessed his three brothers become pussy whipped by their women. He refuses to fall into that trap and can’t understand why any male would willingly choose that route. But everything changes when he meets Maxine and realizes that for the first time, he actually wants more from a woman that just her body, and even if she denied him the first twenty times, there’s no stopping him from claiming what he wants because a Gallo doesn’t go down without a fight.

I have to admit that it took me awhile to warm up to Maxine. I absolutely loved that she refused to give into Anthony’s charms at the beginning and called him out immediately, but the way she treated him throughout the first part of the book didn’t set well with me, even though her reasons made sense. I think it was difficult to accept because readers were given Anthony’s point of view and witnessed his changes right from the start, so we saw what her “games” were doing to him…it might also be because he’s a Gallo and I’ve come to accept that the “one” is just supposed to take off her panties and let herself me claimed;) Regardless of that, though, Anthony kept fighting for her and working to get through Maxine’s walls, and their connection was something that she couldn’t deny no matter how hard to tried to, and when her truths are revealed, Anthony continues to step up for her, which only endears him more to readers.

Anthony and Maxine’s sexual and witty banter makes Without Me a great read and the fact that Maxine keeps Anthony on his toes throughout the entire text proves that she’s just the woman to bring him down a few pegs and realize the kind of life his brothers and sister have is exactly the kind he should want. Their life together is never going to be easy because they’re both strong willed and passionate people who aren’t afraid to tell it like it is, but it will definitely be worth it because that intensity Anthony and Maxine have for each other both in and outside the bedroom is what will see them through even the most difficult of times, which is showcased a bit in Without Me.

Chelle Bliss’ Men of Inked series is about family, sacrifice, and most of all, love. I loved watching the Gallo siblings succumb to the kind of love and life they never really saw coming, but once they realized it was theirs for the taking, they were all in and fought every step of the way.

The Gallos are definitely a family to be remembered, and if readers haven’t meet them yet, now that the series is complete, there’s no better time to be introduced. Readers will go through all the feels with this series, which makes it must read.
