RELEASE WEEK REVIEW: Grind by Sawyer Bennett

grind

Blurb

Grind (verb): to weaken or destroy gradually

Macy Carrington is not the woman I once thought her to be.

What she does not allow her heart to feel, she gives with her body. The sex between us is explosive and depraved. I’ve done things with her that would never have crossed my wildest imagination, and I can’t ever seem to get enough.

But now I want more from her. I want to figure out her dark secret, expose it and then help her to heal from it. I know, without a doubt, that Macy is capable of love, and I will grind her down until I make her accept the truth of it.

Grind (verb): to wear down, polish, or sharpen by friction

Cal Carson is not the man I once thought him to be.

Strong, determined, sexy as hell and a beast in the bedroom. He is every woman’s fantasy.

He is my fantasy.

But no matter how hard Cal tries to grind me down, my heart and secrets are mine and mine alone.

**Clash is the first book in this Legal Affairs trilogy and is releasing on 4/7/15. Grind will be released on 4/21/15 and Yield will be released on 5/5/15.

grind

Review

The grinding of bodies…the slow grind of a developing relationship…the grinding of teeth to suppress pushy comments that could destroy any progress Cal has made with Macy.

All of these explanations and more define the connection that exists between Cal and Macy in Grind, the second installment of A Legal Affairs Story: Cal and Macy. Cal and Macy are sizzling together, which is all that Macy feels they can be; she can only give give him her body and explore their sexual preferences with one another but that’s as far as she’s willing to go due to her past and the scars that she bears, but Cal’s inner knight can’t help but come out, and he wants to do whatever he can to free her from her burdens, even if that means stepping outside of his comfort zone to do so.

Cal and Macy are quite the kinky couple, but they’re becoming so much more than that, but I’m worried for Cal. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and Macy is a hot mess; readers aren’t quite sure what in her past has forced her to feel how she does and live her life like she does, but I have an idea about what went down, but we shall see heading into their last book what truly did shape Macy’s solitude existence because her past is about to become her present issue in more than a mental capacity.

Macy is slowly exposing herself to Cal, and I love that her point of view is only told in diary entries because that’s where she feels safe to share how she truly feels and exposes what her “relationship” with Cal is doing to her, but then as she starts to reveal her true self to Cal, her entries are shorter and her dialogue with Cal is more complete, more self aware and less generic.

Grind is a fantastic continuation of Cal and Macy’s story. Cal seems in it for the long haul; he’s slowly wearing Macy’s defenses down and proving to her that they can be different – that she can give her whole self to him and he will handle her with care – at least outside of the bedroom;) Cal and Macy’s limitations are definitely being pushed in this installment, which is exactly what they need in order to prove themselves to each other. I can’t wait for the conclusion of their story!
