Hard ~ it’s a spot on title for Ryder and Cassie’s story because it implies that their relationship is not easy…that their lives are complicated, which is actually the case.
Ryder Cole
He’s a sexy, alpha male bastard who made it to the top of his game by fighting his way through life – he’s a hard ass – who created his own little empire with hard work and dedication.
In business, Ryder’s unyielding, protecting what’s his and pressuring those who try to buck the system in order to keep them in line.
In his personal life, Ryder takes what wants and is relentless in creating pleasure for him and his partner.
Cassie McEntire
For the past few years, she’s had to harden herself against the one person who’s supposed to love her, leaving her betrayed and exhausted, and just when she thought she’d get a fresh start, another loved one puts her in a complicated situation, forcing her to go head to head with Ryder Cole.
Cassie lost herself in her previous relationship, so she’s not looking to get into another one, especially with a man like Ryder Cole. But the draw to him is too great for her to deny and regardless of the secrets she’s keeping and the lies she’s told, Ryder and Cassie give into the passion that sizzles between them.
But like the title suggests, things don’t fall into place so easily for Ryder and Cassie and they find themselves in a push and pull relationship with a third party threatening to unhinge what they have together.
Hard is a great read from debut author Eve Jagger. It’s sexy and suspenseful, which is a perfect combination. Cassie and Ryder are complex characters who both carry baggage with them that keeps them from being a complete open book, but with each other, they find they’re willing to work through their crap to be together despite the half truths that started their relationship.
Cassie and Ryder’s story is a great start to the Sexy Bastard series, and I can’t wait for Ryder’s friends’ stories because meeting them in Hard makes me eager to see what Eve has in store for them.
