One thing I’ve come to learn about Kym Grosso’s male and female characters is that they are a dichotomy of sorts – their layers seem to go against each other – their inner and outer personas that come together to make up the complexity of who they are and add to the intrigue and passion of what makes them a complete self.
For the hero and heroine in Kym Grosso’s latest release, Carnal Risk, their innate contradictions are compounded by the fact that they are what seems to be each other’s complete opposite, which adds to the intrigue of the story line and helps to illustrate to readers just how paradoxical both characters are.
Garrett Emerson lives his life in order to capture the “elusive rush,” always pushing the envelope and taking risks to ensure that the high felt in all facets of his world are extreme. Professionally, Garrett works hard to be on the “cutting edge,” always looking to be ahead of the rest, working on projects that are highly classified and wanted by many competitors. In Garrett’s personal life, those same risks apply – although in a more carnal manner. No risk is too great or high unobtainable.
Selby Reynolds’ life is nothing like Garrett’s. Her past defines her present, and her façade of confidence conceals her constant panic and fear. Selby is in no way a coward, but she refuses to take risks that will jeopardize her life or her sanity. But her “safe” existence is put to the test when Selby goes to work for Garrett as a favor to a friend. With Garrett’s help, Selby’s inner adventurer is released, forcing both of them to take the greatest risk of all with each other.
But it’s not just the danger of their extreme activities that Garrett and Selby have to worry about – their lives are also being threatened, and as the story continues and the mysteries surrounding Garrett’s company start to unravel, it’s hard to tell what’s the greater threat – the outside force closing in or the feelings both Garrett and Selby feel when they give their true selves to one another.
Carnal Risk is a fantastic read – it’s steamy, suspenseful, and absolutely intriguing. The storyline keeps readers’ interest throughout the text, working to solve the mystery behind the danger and the multifaceted nature of the characters allows readers to understand who they are at their core and see why they make the choices they do in both their professional and private lives.
Kym Grosso’s paranormal series is an absolute must read and now readers who love her writing are given a new avenue to enjoy her words and characters. Can’t wait for more!
