Anytime J. Kenner takes her readers back into the world of Damien Stark and the people who surround him, I know I’m in for a story line full of seduction, secrets, and damaged souls, which is exactly what we get in the second book in Jackson and Sylvia’s story, On My Knees.
The title itself is extremely telling in terms of the dynamics of Jackson and Sylvia’s relationship. Its connotative meanings apply to them both as individuals and to what they bring to each other both in and out of the bedroom.
On My Knees for…
Forgiveness
Sylvia has made up for her disappearance five years ago, but there’s still secrets between them and issues of trust. But both Sylvia and Jackson know the bond they share can help them to work through any issue as long as they’re willing to understand and forgive. It may not be easy and words and actions may cause a strain in their relationship, but neither are willing to give up on one another.
Revelations
Sylvia and Jackson learn important things about each other’s pasts that have the power to bring them to their knees from pain, hurt, and frustration, and as long as they continue to fight their demons together, the secrets that are exposed can only threaten but not destroy.
Submission
In uncontrollable situations, Jackson needs to feel some sort of control and Sylvia submits willingly, relinquishing her control in order for both of them to get the release they need.
Sylvia and Jackson’s story continues to pull me in due to J. Kenner’s seamless writing and her ability to create characters whose personality continues to evolve throughout the series. There’s quite a bit of steam in On My Knees, but I see it as an asset to the story because for Sylvia and Jackson, it’s their place to give each other what they need…a place to free themselves from expectations, complications, and pasts that continue to try to dominate them. It’s where they express how their lives are better due to each other’s presence and their demons can be stifled.
Some secrets are revealed in book 2, but there’s definitely still more to unveil, and J. Kenner makes her readers work for every answer, which makes the text even more captivating. It will be interesting to see how Sylvia and Jackson handle the situation that’s headed their way after the cliffhanger in On My Knees, but I can guarantee that they will stand by each other’s side and fight to hold onto the one thing that makes their lives complete – each other.
