Review
Anna Beth Bellaforte and Ty Boudreaux epitomize the idea that opposites attract and infuriating emotions towards someone who knows how to push every button just might be the guy who, regardless of how unwanted the feelings, becomes the person who makes everything better.
The Princess –
Anna Beth is an interesting character because she’s led her whole life focused on upholding the Bellaforte name, being everything her parents want her to be in terms of social class and prestige. But what she’s also doing is forsaking her own needs and desires because she’s afraid to let her parents down.
Skye Turner does a good job of illustrating the dilemma that Anna Beth finds herself in when her feelings for Ty go beyond a fling. I completely understand her fears and what she feels is at stake if she lives her life for herself instead of for her family name, but the way she handles things is quite aggravating. It seemed like she had a great relationship with her parents, so I didn’t quite get why she just didn’t talk with them and let them know that the “Bellaforte chains” were making her unhappy.
The Pauper –
Ty is the type of guy who feels at home in his own skin, but being a dirty little secret is not something he ever wanted. He’s a hard working man who puts others before himself and stands up for what he believes in, which is everything someone like Anna Beth should want in a man. But Ty is a blue collar worker and he doesn’t “fit” into Anna Beth’s world, which plays a big factor in the angst that arises in the text.
I really liked Ty; he’s an honest man who refuses to be someone he’s not. Do I think he channeled his frustration in irresponsible ways – absolutely – but he had to learn his own way, and he does that by the time the story ends.
Unwanted Desire is a steamy, quick read that will have readers cheering for the pauper to get his princess regardless of how much they may want to throttle the princess along the way! The text also teaches a great lesson about living life for oneself instead of for others, which all readers can understand.
