The pieces are starting to fall into place as truths are revealed, but those discoveries only seem to further complicate things for Rafe and Brie in the follow-up to Instigation, because trust has been broken, leaving both of them wondering what happens next.
Questions still run rampant even after the conclusion of Escalation. It remains unclear where the danger is coming from and how Brie’s past comes into play with the threat to her future. No one seems to truly be who they claim, which puts Brie in an extremely precarious position, forcing her to make decisions without all the facts, only relying on her heart, which has already led her astray.
Rafe has a lot to make up for, and he needs to begin with the truth if Brie is going to allow him to remain in her life, but it’s clear that even with Rafe unveiling certain information, there’s still much to learn.
There’s no denying the passion and lust that exists between Rafe and Brie, but if there’s no trust, how can they build on their relationship?
Tessa Teevan does a great job crafting two interwoven story lines that focus on Brie and Rafe’s relationship and what’s at stake for both of them in a game where too many of the players are unclear. Progress is made on both accounts but as the secrets are revealed, the danger increases, which puts Rafe’s promise to Brie to keep her safe in jeopardy.
The mystery and suspense of Escalation will have readers coming up with their own theories throughout the text, which makes Brie and Rafe’s story a captivating read, but regardless of what their conclusions are, readers won’t know all of the truth until book 3 releases.
