Her elusive past didn’t worry me,

Her heartbreaking scars never made me cringe,

And her haunting demons only made me a stronger man.

But the day Blake Martin was stolen from me,

I was scared to death.

Prepared to do anything necessary to get her back,

Little did I know it just might cost me my life.

My name is Madden Decker, and this is my story.

TEASER 3 - TRANS

Review

I didn’t quite know how Blake and Madden’s story was going to end because there were too many variables at play…too many players involved in this game of life and death and whoever was going to survive would have to escape death and flee, which is an arduous task in itself but even more difficult when you’ve been kidnapped and escaping is not an option.

Hell is an understatement for what both Blake and Madden experience throughout the course of Transparent, but the darkness they are consumed by is much different because Blake is a puppet in a Mafia War, and Madden is a protector who has lost control because his Blake is only part of the real woman he loves, and once the truth is completely revealed, nothing will be the same for either of them, and with what’s at stake, when the dust settles, lives will be lost and lives will forever be changed.

Transparent is an interesting title for the conclusion of Blake and Madden’s story because nothing is clear; secrets and lies distort the truth, and even when some kind of clarity is reached, Erin Noelle twists reality again and leads her characters and readers down a path that is dangerous, dark, and deadly.

The multiple perspectives that Noelle provides readers with is a Godsend in understanding Transparent’s complex story line. All angles of the plot are visible, but that doesn’t mean it all makes sense right away because there are secrets and omissions that the characters hold tightly to until the very last minute, which makes for an exciting yet frustrating journey to figure out what the end holds for Blake and Madden.

What I found most surprising while I was reading was that my adoration was not placed on the person I thought it would be, and the one it did land on is a chameleon of sorts throughout the story, holding his cards tightly to his chest and only playing the game when he can assure himself that his plan will work. I want to know more about Raze and hear his stories and understand how this broken, dangerous man came to be someone thirsting for revenge and finding a bit of redemption along the way.

Erin Noelle’s growth as a writer shines through in Transparent. Readers feel every emotion that consumes Blake and Madden and their thoughts are clearly expressed through their actions and freak outs, and at the end of the text, everything is crystal clear but that doesn’t mean there’s more story to tell, and I hope Noelle tells us more about these characters, especially the one man whose story deserves to be told.

TEASER 2 - TRANS

Excerpt

His turbulent blue gaze cuts around the room until they land on where I’m curled up in a ball in the corner of the room, and when I don’t jump up right away, he begins to stalk in my direction.

“Did you hear me, girl? I said we have to leave. Right no—” He stops in his tracks once he takes notice of the spaghetti dinner the housekeeper, or at least that’s who I assume she was, delivered a short time ago, now splattered against the wall above where the plate it was served on lies in fragmented pieces on the floor. I tighten my grip on one of the porcelain shards entangled in my trembling fingers. The sharpest one I could find.

“What in the fuck did you do? Are you fucking crazy?” Boring a hole in me with an incredulous stare, he closes the distance between us and squats down to my level.

I keep my eyes trained on him, but say nothing. I’ve got a split-second to make the decision on whether to attempt an escape now with my makeshift weapon, or to wait until a better opportunity presents itself. All day, I’ve been trying to listen to the different muffled voices through the walls as I watched the cars come and go out the window, compiling as much information as possible about my whereabouts and the people in the house. I haven’t learned much except that Raze has been here with me the whole time.

After Anatoli informed me last night of my purpose here with the Russians, Raze escorted me back to the room—this room—where I was permitted to shower and given a bowl of chicken and rice to eat. The rest of the night I lay awake in the darkness, the sound of crickets in the trees, and my conflicting thoughts. Thoughts that ranged from planning my getaway, to wondering how sweet the revenge would be if I actually killed Vincent Ricci.

TRANSLUCENT Book 1

Sometimes you reach a point where you just can’t take any more — a breaking point, some call it.

The day I watched my husband murder the woman who was pregnant with his child, my point didn’t just break, it exploded like a full magazine’s worth of hollow points firing through the barrel of a fully-automatic AK-47.

Literally.

I am no longer his American Princess, nor am I his slave.

Now, I’m a murderer in hiding. My name was Bryleigh Carter Oliveira, and that was my story.

Translucent is one woman’s story of breaking free, starting over, and learning to trust again through willful submission.
