Review
I was so excited to be back in Sierra Simone’s decadent world of lust, love, and money. Simone has once again proven why historical romances are her forte. The setting and social codes of high society are brilliantly brought to life with Simone’s vivid details and characterizations; she allows readers an inside look at what happens behind closed doors and the sexual dalliances that remain secret regardless of the rumors because it would be frowned upon in the eyes of society regardless of their own proclivities.
Molly may not have been my favorite person in the Markham Hall series, but she has proven to be an articulate, intelligent, and strong “modern” woman. One who refuses to let herself be pushed around…one who has sacrificed herself in so many ways to save her father’s company and bow down to no man unless it’s of her own choosing. Sierra Simone meticulously illustrates Molly’s personal conflict between doing what she has to, to doing what she wants to do. The situation that Molly finds herself in is one that she wouldn’t wish upon another person because it breaks her heart and allows someone else to control her life…her work…her body, but no matter how she tries to work around the contract and fuse her personal and professional life together in a way that’s forever unless she asks for help, which is not something she will willingly do.
Silas proves to be quite the honorable man in the conclusion of his and Molly’s story. He has a lot to make up for when it comes to his actions, but I would say he proves to Molly the type of man he truly is when he fights for the woman he loves. I love how Sierra Simone plays on the duality of Silas’ character. His complexity is what makes Silas beyond attractive and his charm, his wit, his beauty, and his heart are all things he wants to give to Molly regardless of the past and regardless of how bleak the present is due to Molly’s need to save her company.
I’m definitely not ready to say goodbye to Simone’s historical characters and setting; there are a few more characters whose stories need to be told, and I’m hoping she’ll start with the Baron.
