About the Book
The third book in the sexy Alpha’s Heart series by USA Today bestseller Bella Jewel.
Delaney, a professional bodyguard, has spent years trying to prove herself in a male dominated industry. Now she’s facing her greatest challenge yet.
Bad boy billionaire Jax Shields has made plenty of enemies on his climb to the top, but being in the wrong place at the wrong time has put his life at risk. Now he’s putting his life in the hands of Delaney and her team. He demands the best in everything, and he doesn’t think she has what it takes to protect him. He’s also made it clear he’d rather have her on her back then covering his. Will Delaney be able to prove herself to the most arrogant-and devastatingly handsome-man she’s ever met?
Review
The premise of Hard to Forget is a bit unusual because Delaney is a female bodyguard assigned to protect Jaxson Shields, an alpha male billionaire who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. As much as Jax needs protection, though, he doesn’t want his life to be put into the hands of a woman, especially one who has never had a case this high profile nor the experience of dealing with life/death situations as volatile as this one.
Proving herself capable has always been a cross to bear for Delaney. She’s part of a profession dominated by men and most of them feel that women are inferior and do not possess the necessary attributes to protect and serve. But Delaney’s prepared to prove the naysayers wrong…too bad Jaxson Shields is at the top of that list.
Delaney and Jaxson’s story took a bit for me to get into partly due to the way that Jax is portrayed. I did not like him from the start and that first impression was difficult for me to let go of even when he finally recognizes Delaney’s worth. What I did like about Jax is the fact that he didn’t pretend to be anything that he wasn’t; he doesn’t stray away from his manwhore status as or his arrogance, which is refreshing, but even that didn’t redeem him in my eyes.
Bella Jewel always creates the best heroines, and Delaney definitely kicks ass both at her job and in the sass and feistiness she delivers to those who question her skills, but I did wonder what she saw in Jax, especially when her attraction to him and any subsequent action could cost her the job she loves.
Overall, I enjoyed Hard to Forget. I liked the unique story line and the drive Delaney has to succeed. Bella Jewel does a good job illustrating how Delaney’s actions change the minds of many of those around her about her inability to be a body guard and the sparring matches as well as the hatred driven sex-escapades definitely kept my interest. I think that if I would have understood Jax a little better…understood why he acts the way he does, I would have been able to buy into the story more.
