Review
Each new release by Alessandra Torre has dynamic characters, a twisty storyline, and writing that is fluid throughout the text. Torre’s versatility as a writer is showcased in Love, Chloe; what makes Love, Chloe different from Torre’s other books is that it’s a romantic comedy, which is a complete 180 from the dark and twisted reads readers are used to getting from her. But regardless of the change in genre, Torre still keeps readers on their toes as they follow Chloe’s fall from societal grace at the hands of her parents’ scandal, and we get to experience her internal musings as she figures out how to make it on her own in New York City – a place that likes to chew people up and spit them out if they don’t have the backbone to fight.
It was difficult to tell at the beginning if Chloe had what it took to find her new way with her old life’s mentality, but as she learned to cope with what little she had and fend off her upbringing’s self righteous and snobby attitude, readers are able to witness a new and improved Chloe – a girl who may not have money or a place in New York’s elite anymore, but what she does have is a new outlook on life – one that allows her to enjoy the little things that life has to offer and to truly experience all of its highs and lows, realizing that a happy life is about more than just money and status.
Chloe’s journey of self improvement definitely hits a few bumps along the way, and, at times, it seems like she can’t break free from her self-centered, entitled old self, but with help from her friends, quite a few epiphanies, and a man who isn’t afraid to get dirty and is good with his hands, Chloe liberates herself from a materialistic life and recognizes the woman she’s become despite her parents’ neglect, her ex’s constant interference, and her boss’ bitchy attitude and misguided lifestyle choices.
The fall of a socialite is a storyline that readers have probably experienced numerous times, but what sets Chloe’s story apart from the rest is Alessandra Torre’s writing style and her ability to infuse the flair and dynamics of New York City into the storyline so much so that it becomes a character in and of itself, adding to the intrigue and first hand look of what happens when someone thinks she has it all because of her money and status and then once those things are taken away realizes that happy living needs to be more about who you are and who you surround your life with instead of material items that define who you are to other people more so than yourself.
