Mothers were supposed to love unconditionally. Mine didn’t. In fact, she tried to kill me on my thirteenth birthday, when she saw just how different I was. My dad saved my life that night. He also took her away on an extended vacation, leaving me with an ever-absent uncle.

Five years later, solitude was something I lived by. I had to because I was different and people tended not to cope well with the unusual. In fact, they hated me for it, were even scared of me because of it.

I thought I was meant to live alone, until Isaac Grey took notice of me. He changed my life, taught me I wasn’t the only one who was different, and I didn’t need to be alone.

But with love comes sacrifice and then pain. Could I ever escape living in the dark?

Leila Morgin has always been different. Living in a small town being anything but normal scares people and makes them react with hatred, and because Leila has no one to stand by her side as she traverses through high school and then college, dealing with mistreatment and abuse, she feels completely unloved and alone.

But what Leila and the small minded community members don’t realize is that Leila is extraordinary and gifted, both with her need to protect and defend anyone who is picked on or made fun of and her abilities that she’s only just begun to learn and craft. Leila loves with all that she is and feels so much more than she allows others to see, and when Isaac Grey is the first person who actually sees more than just her differences, she finds herself falling for him and entering a dark world that will push her to the edge and force her to see passed the lies and understand that some things done with the best of intentions still have a way to bring people to their knees.

Lila Rose does a great job of building the mystery of who and what Leila, Isaac, and those closest to them are. There is quite a bit of information that must be processed in order to understand what Isaac and his people are fighting against and why Isaac has a duty to those who follow him that requires him to make difficult decisions that wind up hurting people along the way. Leila clearly has a place in the lives of Isaac and his family, but, at times, Leila doesn’t understand what her role is and why every part of her being feels a connection to Isaac that can’t be easily explained.

Rose crafted Leila in a way that readers understand both her strengths and her weaknesses, and we also get to witness Leila grow into the leader she’s supposed to be. Her trust and faith are both tested numerous times throughout the storyline, calling into question everything she feels and believes, but that only forces Leila to be stronger and push herself to take care of herself and those around her.

Since readers only see Isaac through Leila’s eyes, it’s hard to get a handle of him, but one thing is clear from the beginning – he wants what is best for those he loves and he’s willing to do anything to insure their safety.

The secondary characters make the story that much more intriguing because they are all unique but still part of a unit that is filled with snark and quick wit but also undying love and devotion. I wouldn’t mind getting a few of their stories if Rose were to continue in this otherworldly setting.

In the Dark is a great paranormal read with strong characters and an interesting storyline that evolves as the text continues. There are dangerous, emotional, and steamy situations throughout the story, forcing readers to quickly keep reading in order to find out how everything plays out between Leila and Isaac as well as their people and those who are fixated on ending them.

I was born in Brisbane Australia, my step-dad was in the Army which caused us to move around a lot. We finally settled in country Victoria, Australia. I am the youngest of four children and I can say that I was spoilt a bit. I drove my mum crazy when I refused to eat meat at a young age.

Now I live with my husband and two children, and I find myself regretting all the troubles I put my parents through because my monsters are just as picky as I was.

I started writing in 2013 and self-published the first of the Hawks MC Club series Holding Out. The next to follow was something different, I wrote Senseless Attraction, a YA novel. Soon, I was back to the Hawks series with number two Climbing Out. I have more to write in the series, but there will be also be more novels in the humorous erotica genre, like Left to Chance.
