Summary
Liam Quinn is talented, gorgeous, and one of the biggest movie stars in the world.
He’s also the only man Elissa Holt has ever truly loved.
After being out of her life for six years, he and his gorgeous fiancé are set to star in the new Broadway show Elissa is stage managing. The only trouble is, when late night rehearsals bring Elissa and Liam together, the line between what is and what could have been gets blurred, and one moment of weakness will create a scandal that echoes around the world.
Elissa knows that falling for Liam again would be a tragedy in the making, but as any good romantic will tell you, love doesn’t always follow the script.
Review
Fate can be quite the fickle bitch, and Elissa Holt can definitely attest to that sentiment. Fate seemed to bring Liam Quinn into Elissa’s life as quickly as it forced them apart, and with a bit of manipulation and a Hollywood spotlight on Liam’s rising star, fate and bad timing kept them from each other for six years, and now it’s played its hand again and brought the almost couple back together, only fate’s not done messing with these star crossed lovers and now that Elissa and Liam have reconnected, it’s unclear what’s to come from their awkward situation and what their wicked hearts are willing to do to be together.
I’ve adored Elissa since I was introduced to her as Ethan Holt’s sister in Ethan and Cassie’s books. She’s a genuine and down-to-earth girl who seems to know exactly who she is and what she wants. She oozes with determination as well as stubbornness, qualities that have allowed her to make it through heartache by locking it away and moving forward despite her desire to crumble into a ball and let her emotions take over.
But with Liam’s re-entry into her life, especially after how they parted and the circumstances in which they now find themselves, all Elissa can feel is the old wounds that had pierced her heart all those years ago tearing back open, leaving her insecure and incapable of not wanting what she can’t have.
Liam Quinn has accomplished a lot since he left Elissa behind for the Hollywood spotlight – his public persona is much different from the man Elissa remembers, but perception is not always accurate, and as soon as Liam interacts with Elissa again, the attraction and connection they both felt back then resurfaces, causing complications to both of their careers and well as their hearts.
Holy Angst! This book put me through the wringer more than once as I trudged through the heartache, frustration, and hurt feelings. I seriously didn’t know how Elissa was going to make it through the entire production of the play witnessing Liam and Angel’s relationship on a daily basis. How she kept it together and remained as professional as she did while dying inside was a monumental undertaking, and she pulled it off quite well even while feeling gutted.
Ever since being introduced to Leisa Rayven’s writing in Bad Romeo, the dramatic world she’s created and continues to use as the setting for her other books in the series has captivated me due to the complexity of her characters, their interactions, and the issues and complications that she crafts for them. It’s so easy to get swept away in Rayven’s characters’ drama and feel each and every emotion that they go through as they journey through the highs and lows of their personal relationships because every aspect of their struggle is meticulously showcased through the characters’ reactions and internal diatribes. I usually am turned off by a high level of angst, but not in Rayven’s Starcrossed series and that’s due to her ability to make it feel like all of the drama the couple goes through is necessary, allowing for growth in a way that’s realistic instead of easily manufactured. I’ll admit that sometimes my heart and stomach can’t take everything the characters struggle through, but I also know that if I can just hold on and weather the storm, just like the protagonists, the payoff will absolutely be worth it!
