Review
Lost due to the pressure of never being good enough
Lost due to being abandoned by everyone and everything
Lost due to being used and kept secret and then thrown away
Lost to the past
Lost to addiction
Lost to the need to hold it all together regardless of the need to fall apart
For all intents and purposes, both Tucker Lynch and Charlotte Morsey are lost souls whose pasts have defined their present and whose current actions have forced their futures to veer down a path that neither of them can come back from because, at first, it’s a journey that Tucker forcibly took Charlotte on and now, it’s an adventure that has finally made Char feel alive and found.
Going into Lost, I really didn’t know what to expect. The synopsis is vague enough to peek interest without offering concrete insight into the story line. Once I got into the text a bit, it made sense what Carrie Aarons was trying to accomplish with Tucker and Charlotte’s current situation juxtaposed with snippets of their past relationship. As a reader, I could clearly see what caused both of them to get off track – one living too hard and one not living at all, and within a chaotic and traumatic situation, they are able to hash out their past mistakes, and in a way, start fresh, only this time, they’ve learned to communicate and have faith that now that they’ve found one another again, they’ll never feel lost or alone. But that might not be a choice for them because past misdeeds might just cause everything to be out of their control.
Tucker and Charlotte’s story focuses on the idea of never being good enough and allowing the pressure that other people put on somebody to override everything else. Tucker kept Charlotte a secret all those years ago, but now that they are back to being “us against the world,” it will be interesting to see if what they lost can be found again, especially with what happens at the end of the story.
