Everyone has felt or seen the kind of interaction that knocks the wind out of someone due to a menagerie of emotions; sometimes those feelings are overwhelmingly negative and the inability to breathe is more out of fear and anxiousness than anything else. But other times, this reaction stems from the beauty of the moment…the awe that exists due to the love that surrounds the connection.

Callie St. James and Luke Hardy’s relationship, both as friends and lovers, is both volatile and endearing…heart wrenching and heartwarming…impatient and passionate, which lends truth to the idea that life, love, and honesty can never be categorized as only black and white because there are too many variables…too many complications that illustrate the murkiness and off kilter environment that’s created due to circumstances both in and out of their control.

If there’s one characteristic that defines who Callie is, it’s her sense of right and wrong. She’s a person who’s driven by truth and honesty, but she’s also motivated by love and attraction, which is why even though there are extenuating circumstances that prevent Callie from giving herself completely to Luke and giving into her baser needs right from the start, he still takes her breath away in the best possible ways and she longs to be his.

Luke’s life is extremely complicated, and the tumultuous feelings he has about his situation makes him both angry and protective. His worries go beyond himself and dealing with all that involves puts him in a rather precarious position, making Callie both a necessary facet of his life as well as someone who further complicates it.

But things aren’t what they seem on a lot of levels in this story and as the truth is slowly discovered, it teaches both Callie and Luke that there’s a middle ground between truth and lies and it’s one’s ability to wade through the chaos and rise above it that allows life to be lived to its fullest despite everything that surrounds it.

Steal My Breath illustrates that life is not black and white and neither is the truth. There are shades of both depending on the situation and the circumstances that surround it. Callie and Luke’s lives can be vibrant and exciting as well as grey and desolate depending on what they’re dealing with, and let me tell you, there’s a shitstorm of drama to contend with in their story!

Callie and Luke’s story is a suspenseful, steamy read that has a great supporting cast of characters who both help and hurt Callie and Luke’s relationship and make them question their future and even make decisions that could destroy the very thing that steals their breath.

Here’s a taste of Luke & Callie… 

I stand and move to him. His back muscles tense when I place my hand on his shoulder. “I want to get to know everything about you, Luke Hardy,” I say and he spins around to face me.

His eyes search mine. “You already know the important bits.”

“No, I don’t.” I rest my hand against his chest. “I don’t know the secrets you keep locked in here. They’re the important bits.”

His intake of breath is sharp and he wraps his hand around mine. His other hand slides around my waist and he pulls me close.

Oh, shit.

No.

Too close.

But his lips brush across mine before I can move out of his embrace. His hold is tight and his message is very clear—he’s in charge here and if a kiss is what he wants, a kiss is what he will have.

He surprises me, though, and angles his face away from mine. Still keeping hold of me, he says, “I know we’re doing the friends-only thing for awhile, but a man’s got needs, Callie. If you put your hands on me, you better be prepared for the consequence of that.”

I’m pretty sure my eyes almost pop out of my head. I knew Luke was bossy—oh, boy did I know—but this is a whole new level of bossy. His deep voice vibrates along my skin, scattering goose bumps, while his eyes penetrate my soul. Those intense, green eyes of his will do it to me every time. They’ll cause me to forget everything I’ve ever said or thought and just cling to him for the ride.

He dips his face again and his mouth finds mine. The moment our lips connect sparks of desire burn through me. I’m so damn hot for him and I can’t control myself. I push my body hard against his and open my mouth to him.

He tastes like whiskey and I make a note to buy some just so I can remember this moment forever. I’ve never loved whiskey before, but it may just be my new favourite drink.

This kiss will forever live in my mind. Luke doesn’t simply kiss—he possesses. He takes me mind, body and soul.

In this kiss I find hope.

Hope that he will fight for me.

For the us we both want.
