Release Date: June 2, 2016
Hamish “Goblin” McBride is a formidable cage fighter with a heart of solid gold…until the woman of his dreams smashes it to pieces.
The only things he has to soften the blow are his fists and the bottom of a whisky bottle. He’s got more than his fair share of problems and being heartbroken wasn’t part of the plan.
Enter Lori, the mysterious rock chick who works behind the bar at The Underground, the illegal cage fighting league that’s Hamish’s home away from home.
With a boatload of her own problems, starting something with Hamish might just be more trouble than it’s worth…
Or they might just be made for one another after all.
Hamish “Goblin” McBride fights his own battles and those of the ones he loves with everything that he has to give, and while that makes him an amazing man, son, and friend, it also forces him to keep secrets…to live his life for those around him not for himself. But Lori Walker is someone he wants just for himself, and even if he can only have her as a friend, he’ll look out for her and protect her from her fears because that’s the kind of man he is.
Ever since meeting Hamish in the previous books of Amity Cross’ The Beat and the Pulse series, I’ve wanted to know what’s beneath that fighter exterior and the demons he hides behind his eyes, unwilling to weigh down anyone else with his bullshit, going it alone because that’s how it’s always been. As hard as people try, Hamish won’t change who he is, and because he’s bound to the city where his mom is, he refuses any other kind of life and any other kind of fighting than what he gets in the Underground.
Lori Walker may work in the Underground, but she wants nothing to do with fighters – not since one stomped on her heart and forced her to build walls to keep from being hurt again. But there’s something about Hamish that makes her reach out to him, as a friend, in order to lend an ear or hang out with someone who has no expectations of him.
It’s hard to remain in the friend zone, though, because there’s definitely an intense attraction between them, but both Hamish and Lori are afraid to open themselves up…afraid to give someone a piece of themselves, only for it to be destroyed. But that line that they are struggling not to cross is getting thinner and thinner, and when there’s nothing left of it, it’s hard to say if they’ll come out unscathed or return to the way things used to be before they caught each other’s eye.
Flow illustrates what happens when two damaged souls find their way to one another and learn to take things how they come. Both Hamish and Lori have spent such a long time fighting their own battles that they never stopped to think that there was a way for them to do better…a way for them to not feel so alone, but to do that, they have to take a risk…they have to allow someone else to fight for them, which for two very independent people poses problems, but it also gives them hope and a sense that everything’s going to work out.
A complimentary copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.
