One single moment changes everything
In one breath, you can have it all
A split-second later, it can all disappear
Vanished forever
That was me
I had it all
Then in a cruel twist of fate, it was taken from me
A beautiful life gone in a flash
But he was there
He was there to pick me up when I fell
To protect me
My savior. My rock.
He was just a stranger
Just a selfless stranger with a face I’ll never forget
Can’t forget
Won’t forget
And like everything else, he just disappeared
As if he never existed
I have to find him
I need to find him
He has to know that he saved me
He has to know that in that one fleeting moment, he was all I could see

Review
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from Bella Jewel’s newest release. The synopsis was pretty vague on exactly what would take place in the story, which was brilliant on Jewel’s part because Lucy and Heath’s story is not one that should have any pre-conceived ideas heading into it.
Fleeting Moments is both an ironic and paradoxical title because short-lived may signify how quickly the event occurs, but it most definitely does not have to indicate how long the emotions from that situation last. And, a lot of people would feel like important moments last for quite awhile when, in fact, they are small blimps on their lifeline and those passing times will be numerous as people age and experience life.
For Lucy, a string of fleeting moments sent her world both spiraling down and catapulting up. In a short amount of time, she lost who she was, what she believed, and where her love lied, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t find her way back…that the new direction life took her on was any less important than the life she had lived before the event that drastically changed her entire world.
The series of brief experiences that Lucy goes through send her on a new path – one that other people don’t understand or believe because they haven’t experienced them with her. What once defined Lucy is now destroying her…what once surrounded her with love now surrounds her with hate…what once felt everlasting now feels limited. But it’s not really that Lucy lost her way, it’s more like she found a new journey to take because as much as what she went through was only a small part of her life, it’s forever changed her and because of that, she no longer recognizes her past moments because she’s ready to make new ones based on who she is now, not who she was before everything occurred.
Bella Jewel captivated me with Lucy and Heath’s story because, at first, the concept of fleeting moments shaping who someone is didn’t make sense to me. I viewed the term fleeting as short almost immeasurable, which led me to classify them as insignificant, but through the events of the story and ultimately, Jewel’s definition of what fleeting moments are, I see their value…I understand how significant they can turn out to be, and I long to experience these moments that just might change my life and make me realize the kind of life I’m supposed to be living.
