Years ago, they were in love. She was an up-and-coming superstar and he was the devilishly handsome security professional hired to keep her safe. They fell hard and fast, no matter how they tried to resist one another. Having just taken the helm of a nationally renowned protective services company, Kynan McGrath is looking to rebrand and revamp his career. The newly crowned Jameson Force Security is moving from the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas to the mountainous steel town of Pittsburgh, and the last thing Kynan has time for is to deal with his past.

More than a decade has passed since their split, but even a bruised and battered heart remembers its first love. So when Joslyn Meyers comes to him for help, Kynan reluctantly agrees to keep her safe from a terrifying stalker who keeps threatening her life.

As the danger they face continues to intensify, Kynan realizes he’ll stop at nothing to protect the woman who turned her back on him all those years ago. Because one thing is certain—no matter how hard he tries to convince himself otherwise, Joslyn still has his heart.

My Review

As soon as Sawyer Bennett revealed her new Jameson Force Security series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Code Name: Genesis and get to know Kynan McGrath – a hot British alpha male badass who runs the security agency. Plus, his story is a second chance romance 12 years in the making, and I’m a huge fan of this kind of story, especially when it’s clear that there are still deep feelings between he and Joslyn Meyers as well as too many words left unspoken.

Let me start by saying that it took me awhile to get passed Kynan’s asshole behavior when he initially reconnects with his first love. I get that he’s still anger and hurt over how things ended and wants to prove to himself and to Joslyn that she’s nothing but a job to him now…12 years later, but his callousness made me want to junk punch him. He’s a grown man playing games, and it pissed me off that he acted this way, and I didn’t understand why Jos didn’t hold him accountable for his bs move.

But, as Kynan and Jos reconnected, sorting through their feelings of anger and betrayal, Kynan made it his primary mission to protect her from a stalker who seems hellbent on making her his, which went a long way in helping me get over my initial feelings toward Kynan, and I have to give him credit, he proved himself to Jos and to readers by talking things out with her and telling her exactly how he feels with her back in his life.

The events of Kynan and Joslyn’s story seem to occur at warped speed, making the timeline quite short, and while I didn’t really mind how quickly things occurred, it did make it difficult to connect with the main characters and understand the magnitude of their feelings for one another despite the time spent apart.

Despite my few issues with the story, though, I did enjoy Code Name: Genesis, and I’m completely intrigued by the new team members of Kynan’s security team, so much so, that I can’t wait for their stories. There’s a reason Kynan hired them, especially given their particular skillsets and their wrap sheets, and I’m interested to see what baggage they come with and just how dangerous they are as both alpha characters as well as security team members in whatever capacity Kynan needs them.

I’m so ready for Code Name: Sentinel.

Dance With Me by Kristen Proby

Release Date: May 7, 2019

Dance With Me AMAZON.jpg

Dance With Me, an all-new novel in her beloved With Me In Seattle Series by New York Times Bestselling Author Kristen Proby

Starla. Just Starla.

She doesn’t have a last name, and she doesn’t need one. Not with that many Grammys on her mantel. Everyone knows her kick-ass, no-holds-barred style of singing, dancing, and living.

No one knows that America’s Sweetheart is still living with the wreckage of four years ago, when her world was torn apart. Losing her fiancé was devastating, but she’s channeled all of that into her music. Closing off her heart opened a hundred new doors.

Officer Levi Crawford, Seattle PD.

For almost twenty years, Levi has been consumed by the law. He eats, sleeps, and breathes work. Not just because he’s a workaholic, but because he loves it. Sure, he doesn’t have time for a woman and barely sees the rest of his family, but it’s a trade he’s always been happy to make.

Until Starla.

Two lonely hearts could learn to beat again, if they’re willing to dance together.

My Review

Kristen Proby is one of my favorite contemporary romance authors because she seamlessly blends sweet, steamy, and swoon worthy moments into an emotionally charged story line – one that illustrates what her hero and heroine are made of and why they belong together, despite the pain experienced, differing lifestyles, and uphill battle that may be needed to climb.

Ever since Kristen Proby introduced me to Natalie Conner and Luke Williams in Come Away With Me, the first book in her With Me in Seattle series, I’ve felt like an honorary family member/friend of this amazing group of characters. I’ve been here for life’s highs and lows, the celebrations and tragedies, the push and pull of the heroes and heroines, and through it all, I’ve gained a greater appreciation for how Proby creates her multifaceted characters and constructs her stories, doing so in such a way that readers can’t help but fall in love with both the main and supporting members of her world and hope that she always comes back to her With Me in Seattle roots every now and again to check up on readers’ favorites while also introducing new characters for us to fall in love with, just like we’ve done with every couple whose stories have already been told.

Starla is exactly the kind of kickass heroine I adore. There’s a depth to her that is built on the tragic events of her life as well as her determination to channel the pain and grief in a productive way. She’s a superstar in the music industry and in the eyes of the public, but she’s not a stuck up or spoiled girl who doesn’t appreciate how much good she has in her life. But as much as she loves her work and her fans, she’s run herself ragged and needs a chance to rest, heal, and rejuvenate, and she just so happens to have an amazing group of friends who have her back, including a certain police officer who’s not going to waste his second chance with her.

Levi Crawford is another sexy Kristen Proby alpha male. He’s passionate, driven, and protective, and while he’s focused on his work for the past 20 years, Starla makes him want to try for more in his life…for love, and because he’s not a man who gives up easily, Starla’s reemergence in Seattle is an opportunity he never thought he would have and, even though he’s cautious, he plans to prove to Starla and to himself that they can have it all together regardless of their past hangups or insecurities.

Starla and Levi’s story brings readers all the feels that they’ve come to expect from Proby’s storytelling, and while Dance With Me is a fairly light and easy read, the story is built on the idea that love will always see people through and that even though life’s opportunities when it comes to love can both hurt and heal, build up and tear down, what’s made beyond clear is that love is worth it…it’s worth the heartache, the grief, the memories that never dissipate because in the end, having someone to love who loves you back makes everything that was experienced in the past worth it to have the person they love by their side and ready to embark on this crazy journey of life side by side.

Excerpt

“Hello, Starla.”

“Well, shit.”

My eyes soak her in from head to toe. How did she get more beautiful than before? Her auburn hair is pulled up in a knot on top of her head, and she’s in a cropped T-shirt with a pair of skin-tight shorts.

My dick is immediately at full attention.

“Wh-what are you doing here?”

“I was over at Wyatt’s house.” I point across the street. “And he said you were staying here.”

She leans on the doorframe, crosses her arms over her chest, and bites her full bottom lip.

She’s sex personified, standing right in front of me.

“Am I under arrest?”

“No.” I reach out to brush a loose strand of hair behind her ear, and the slight contact of skin against skin sends a shock wave through my already energized body. “No, you basically fell in my lap, and I decided to take advantage of it.”

“If you think I’m going to lead you straight up to bed, you have another thing coming.”

I narrow my eyes. “You just insulted both of us.”

She sighs and shakes her head, pinches the bridge of her nose between her eyes, and then laughs. “I apologize. You surprised me. Come on in.”

She stands back, and I follow her in, looking around the open living space.

“Do you want something to drink?”

“No, thanks.”

“I need a water. Follow me.”

She walks ahead of me to the kitchen, and my eyes are pinned to her round ass. I remember how the globes of those cheeks feel in my hands as she rides me. I remember everything.

“Sure you don’t want some?”

I try to swallow around my dry tongue and just nod. “Turns out, I do.”

She passes me a bottle and then takes a sip of her own.

“So, is the tour over?” I ask.

“Yes, and I’m on vacation.” She frowns slightly, staring down at her water. “Forced vacation.”

“Why?”

She blinks up at me. “Because I was exhausted, and the doctor insisted.”

I narrow my eyes again, pissed that she worked herself into exhaustion. “Starla—”

“I’m fine,” she insists. “And I’m already feeling better. Also, I owe you an apology.”

That stops me short. “No, you don’t.”

“Oh, I do.” She takes another sip, then sets the bottle aside and leans on the island. I get a great view of her cleavage.

She’s too sexy for her own damn good.

“I’m sorry I didn’t reply to your messages, Levi.”

“Why didn’t you?”

She blows out a breath. “Because I was a little overwhelmed. The sex was—”

“Damn incredible.”

“Yeah. It was. Intense is also a good word for it, and I get the feeling that you’re an intense man.”

I nod once. “If I hurt you or scared you—”

“No, it’s not that at all,” she hurries to assure me. “I didn’t do anything that I didn’t want or enjoy. I’m sorry if I gave you that impression. I hadn’t been with a man in a long time, and we have some powerful chemistry.”

That’s the understatement of the year. I can feel the electricity flowing between us like a rushing river.

“That’s really all I’m comfortable saying right now,” she admits and swallows.

“That’s enough.”

For now.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: HEARTTHROB by Robin Bielman

Heartthrob - BT Banner.jpg

He likes a challenge…

Heartthrob, an all-new sexy and hilarious standalone from USA Today bestselling author Robin Bielman, is available now!

heartthrob-MEDIUM

Here’s the deal: I’m the best center fielder in the major leagues. I’m also the guy who cost his team the championship game and acted very unsportsmanlike. So, when the team hires a social media manager to repair the damage to my reputation, I don’t argue. But then I meet Chloe Conrad, and I suddenly understand what people mean when they say they have an instant connection to someone. Which means I’m in serious trouble. Chloe’s a smart, sexy distraction I can’t afford, but one date can’t hurt, right? Only she turns me down. And just like that, it’s game on.

She’s sworn off love…

Finn Auprince is the hottest player in the major leagues. Look up “It Factor” in the dictionary and there’s his handsome face. He’s also my biggest client and I don’t care how easy it is to talk to him or how fun it is to manage his social media accounts, I will not give in to his charms. Then one drunken night, I tell him about my curse: all my previous boyfriends have found their soul mates while dating me. One more heartbreak, and I’ll never recover. But Finn doesn’t believe in curses—he believes in me. Professionally and personally. He sets out to prove the universe isn’t against me, and that his one true love isn’t waiting around the next corner.

The problem is…can we play the game of love and both come out on top?

My Review

Professional baseball player Finn Auprince is as famous and as talented as they come, so the fact that he’s such a down-to-earth and humble guy makes him quite an appealing superstar, but with an injury that puts him on the DL after a less than stellar showing in the championship game as well as the fact that he mouth-offed and disrespected an umpire, the powers that be feel he needs a bit of help to repair his public image, and as luck would have it, the person in charge of rebranding baseball’s ‘it’ guy is none other than social media aficionado Chloe Conrad – the woman who Finn has already met when they got into a small fender bender and he soon learns she’s also the daughter of the baseball official who he had more than a few choice words with during his last game.

Chloe Conrad thinks she’s cursed when it comes to relationships, and her her track record does seem to point in that direction, but from my perspective, she just hasn’t found her one…until now! And while Chloe has a professional obligation to help Finn, the chemistry between them is definitely on a much more personal level, and the more time they spend together, the closer they become, until they can’t help but want to take the biggest risk of their lives…on each other.

The fact that America’s favorite pastime is loved by both the main characters and the author resonates from the pages of the story. The baseball lingo is on point and the passion expressed made me ready to play ball!

Heartthrob is a feel good, humorous, sweet, and swoon worthy romance; it’s light on the angst and heavy on the feels and laughs. I love that Chloe’s curse didn’t dominate her life or the storyline…it was in there just enough to understand why she felt the way she did based on her past relationships. After meeting Finn’s family, especially his brothers, I’m so ready to learn more about them and have them find their one, just like Finn.

“Smooth,”I say with a shake of my head. He no doubt compliments every woman he meets. “But overused.” I put out my palm. “Hand over your phone. I’ll take the picture.”

He looks like he’s ready to yank the sling off his arm and throw it across the parking lot, but instead he gives in to my request. I put the card down on the hood of my car and snap the photo. After checking to make sure it’s a clear shot, I say, “Would you mind letting me know the cost of fixing your car before we go through insurance companies? I may pay out of pocket.”I hate the idea of depleting my savings account, but it might be the better option in the long run.

“Sure.” His fingers brush mine when I give him his phone back, and a surge of heat charges up my arm. Our eyes lock. Hold. “I should also get your digits then—” he glances down at the photo “—Chloe Conrad.”

His saying my name shouldn’t make me weak in the knees, but it does. We’re no longer strangers, not that he’ll remember me or give me any thought beyond fixing his car.

I snag the phone back and type in my number. Then I call myself. My phone rings from the car. “Now I’ve got your number, too.” I never answer my phone if I don’t know who’s calling.

“Would you like a name to go along with it?”

“That’s okay.” I hand back the phone.

His blue eyes dance. “You already know it.”

“Why would I know it? Are you famous or something?” I turn to go before he can see the truth on my face. “I’ll wait to hear from you and uh, sorry about hitting you. I don’t think I said that.”

“No worries.”

I wish. Life isn’t exactly going to plan at the moment. At least my next job assignment should be easy. My boss said it was a perfect fit and I’d get the details on Monday.

“Oh, and Chloe?”

I pause before sliding into my car and look at Finn.

“Nice try.” He tips his head toward my front bumper and winks. Actually winks! Normally I find winking cheesy, but not when Finn does it. His wink is like a calling card for let’s get naked and run our hands and mouths all over each other.

Then it hits me. My license plate frame. It says Baseball…The Perfect Game. Shit. Can’t a girl catch a single break?

“See you around, Webster.”

No, he won’t. Not if I can help it.

Call it pure desperation, or maybe we’d agree it was the lack of sleep that had me signing six weeks of my life away to be bossed around by a life coach. Either way, I was trying to get my life together, and Logan Woodland was going to help.
I thought he’d make me eat healthier, drink more water, and do yoga. What I wasn’t expecting, was to be forced to see myself as I was and how far I’d fallen.
But then his program worked.
He’d shown me a life filled with passion and desire. A life where I was stronger and could be the woman I’d never known existed inside me.
I did have a six-week life-changing experience, but now, I wanted more than I’d signed on for.

About the Author

Maya Hughes can often be found sneaking in another chapter while hiding in the bathroom from her kids! 🙂 I’m a romance writer who loves taking inspiration from everyday life, namely my husband and biggest fan. Inspiration also strikes when I hear a song, meet someone new or daydream while at soccer practice.

I’m the mom of three little ones, the wife to an amazing husband and also work full time. Some of my favorite things are cinnamon rolls, white wine, laughing until I can’t breathe and traveling with my family.

REVIEW BLAST: THE LYING HOURS by Sara Ney

ABRAHAM DAVIS—Honest Abe to his friends—IS IN OVER HIS HEAD…

He’s a fixer and a do good-er. The all-knowing, resident “grandfather” on the wrestling team who everyone relies on to fix their problems. His teammates go to him for everything; advice, homework, or when they need a sober driver at three in the morning–whether he likes it or not.

Abe’s current mission is easy: mend his roommates broken heart by helping him find a girlfriend on the LoveU app–without getting caught in the lie…

SKYLAR GABRIEL. IS. OVER. IT.

Over her bad grades. Over her meddling older brother and his two best friends. And over dating douchebags. What she wants to know is: where have all the nice guys gone?

She longs for a handsome, sweet, and honest guy who can make her laugh. In one last ditch effort to prove that he exists—Skylar turns to LoveU.

On her worst day, Skylar has no filter (it’s a miracle she hasn’t been ditched mid-date).

On her best, she’s as wholesome, and sweet, as pie.

On Thursday? She matches with Abraham Davis’s roommate.

Skylar Gabriel is falling for the wrong guy—she just doesn’t realize it yet.

Why?

BECAUSE ABE DAVIS IS A LIAR.

My Review

If you’ve never experienced Sara Ney live and in person or on her social media outlets then you are definitely missing out because she’s an absolute hoot and her humorous antics and zippy one-liners in her real life find their way into her romantic comedies where a menagerie of humorous scenes, sexual innuendos and witty/snarky comebacks can be found and delivered with precision, making each one of her stories the perfect amount of comic relief, drama, and steam.

I’m a big fan of Ney’s How to Date a Douchebag series and a primary reason is because she doesn’t create cookie cutter heroes and heroines or use the stereotypical characteristics that seem to apply to a good majority of the main characters in new adult romances. And in her newest release, The Lying Hours, she constructed an amazing atypical alpha hero college athlete who is as honorable and honest as they come…until he realizes that his good intentions when it comes to helping to mend his roommate’s broken heart, actually hurts him in the process and forces him to be a bit uncharacteristically deceptive and selfish in unaccustomed ways.

Skylar is definitely my kind of heroine; she’s an incredibly relatable character because her imperfections and struggles make her an every day girl – not a cliched female – and I appreciated the development of her character and her no bs demeanor when it comes to dealing with those around her and even taking care of herself and her wants and needs.

The whole premise of the story line works well, especially in today’s age of online dating sites; more often than not, this is one of the main ways that people meet each other and there’s a certain degree of deception and exaggeration when it comes to getting to know someone. But the fact that Skylar and Abe’s interactions begin on the LoveU App, under false pretenses, is also a reason behind their slow burn romance, and while I would have liked things to advance a bit quicker, I understood why it couldn’t, given the fact that Skylar truly doesn’t know who she’s talking to and runs both JB and Abe through their paces when she realizes what went on behind the scenes.

Once Skylar and Abe work through everything they need to, it’s beyond obvious just how much these two click and how well-matched they are, but getting to that point with the number of times Abe messes up takes a bit, but at least he owns up to his wayward thinking and acting and Skylar sees exactly who Abe is once all the lies are out.

Ney’s How to Date a Douchebag series is one of my absolute favorites; I love how Ney infuses humor, drama, and steam throughout the pages of her stories and the fact that she always finds unique ways to deliver relatable situations and experiences through laugh out loud moments, intense scenes, and swoon worthy encounters.

4.5 Poison Apples
