My Review

Readers who have read Lauren Blakely’s Best Laid Plans and The Feel Good Factor should be quite familiar with Shaw and Vanessa and the reasons why they have hidden their feelings for each other for quite some time, but in Nobody Does It Better, an opportunity for these two to finally be honest with each other comes to fruition and while it isn’t the most ideal situation, there’s no turning back once they lay everything on their line – their bodies. their hearts, and their souls.

The fact that there is a foundation to Shaw and Vanessa’s relationship, even if it’s by proxy due to Vanessa’s friendship with Shaw’s sister, Perri, helps to establish the idea that there has always been an attraction between them…there have always been feelings not acted upon, and what’s made even clearer as the story continues is the fact that regardless of their off-limits status to one another, it hasn’t stopped either of them from wanting what they seemingly can’t have.

But as readers have learned in many romantic comedies, off-limits is in the eye of the beholder and one person’s reason for wanting two people not to be together doesn’t mean that it’s the best or the only option as illustrated by feelings finally be acted upon despite the repercussions faced due to others’ concerns.

It’s amazing how much sass, steam, and humor, Lauren Blakely can pack into a novella, especially when there’s a decade worth of desire and lust surrounding Shaw and Vanessa, but Blakely manages to capture everything that comes to the surface as Shaw and Vanessa finally confess their feelings and stop listening to their heads and start listening and following what their hearts have always wanted.

My Review

Repeat is a fresh and intriguing second chance romance – one unlike most due to the reason for Clementine and Ed’s reunion and the deep heartache that must be worked through in order for them to truly find their way back to one another. But that process is made even more difficult given Clem’s memory loss and her inability to understand why she would ever want to give Ed up.

There’s a lot for Clem to figure out when it comes to the missing pieces of her life, and while her memory isn’t functioning properly at this point, she must rely on her ex for answers and what she finds out complicates things exponentially and lends credence to the fact that what happened to her is not as random as things may appear to be.

It’s clear that the ‘old’ Clementine broke Ed’s heart, so I can’t blame him for his less than inviting behavior with her unexpected visit, but what’s also more than obvious is just how deep Ed’s feelings go for Clementine, which means that despite his lukewarm treatment of her at the beginning of the story and their uncomfortable interactions, they have unfinished business when it comes to what went wrong between them and what that means for them moving forward and the idea that these two have a chance to fall in love all over again, readers can’t help but root for Ed and Clementine to find their way past the heartbreak, past the memory loss, and past the drama and strange events that are out of their control.

I love how Kylie Scott allowed Clem to reinvent herself, offering her a blank canvas, in some ways, in order to figure out what this ‘new’ version of her likes in terms of clothing, food, and even people, and while it may be more difficult for Ed to forget what Clem put him through, Clem 2.0 still owns his heart and he still wants her in his life, and that’s never been clearer than when she needs him to not only fill in the pieces of her memory but also protect her from the unexplained things that are occurring.

Clem and Ed’s story is one of self-discovery and reinvention…it’s about trying to mesh the old version of someone with the new version that is still in construction…it’s about trust…about friendship, and it’s about finding a way not to repeat the mistakes of the past in order to have another chance at forever.

In hindsight, I should’ve been less friendly. I mean, I knew nothing about the nerdy crew or where their triggers might lie, so who was to say a wave in the Star Trek crowd didn’t mean something entirely different? My Review

I know I’m quite a bit late when it comes to Stephanie Julian’s Redtails Hockey series since this is my first read and it’s the 7th story, but I’m a huge fan of sports romance, so I thought I’d take a chance and check out the newest release in the series, The Machine.

And I’m happy to say that I didn’t feel at all lost in reading Jake Mozik and Faith Donovan’s story, and I’m sure that part of the reason I didn’t find it difficult to start so far into the series is because there’s not much ice time in The Machine; Jake Mozik is rehabbing after suffering a near career-ending injury, prohibiting him from returning to the Redtails until he gets the all clear from the team doctor and the person in charge of his physical therapy.

Many people, including the heroine, Faith Donovan, see Jake as an arrogant jock, but he’s more than people’s first impression of him, and that becomes clear when Jake and Faith start spending time together and it’s during those initial moments that readers see who Jake truly is and what he’s willing to do, not just to get back on the ice, but also to prove to Faith that he’s work the risk.

I like that Stephanie Julian establishes a foundation between Jake and Faith, even if it’s just seeing one another in passing, before they become friends and Jake works on standing permanently by Faith’s side.

Faith’s a fighter, and it’s her strength, her dedication, and her never give up attitude that allows her to beat the odds when it her doctors told her that she would never walk again after a horrific car accident. And I feel that Jake and Faith’s stubbornness is something that bonds them together, helping to make all of the work they have both done to recover from their injuries a defining moment in their lives.

Determination and courage are two characteristics that Jake and Faith have in common, and Jake builds upon that as he works his way into Faith’s life and into her heart, and while any kind of intimacy between them is built up to, their connection is solidified the moment Faith realizes who Jake is beneath his cocky athlete demeanor, proving there are just as many layers of his personalty as there are for her.

I definitely enjoyed my first Stephanie Julian sports romance, and I can’t wait to meet more of the Redtails’ players.
