RELEASE DAY BLAST: Entice Me by Kelly Elliott

Since the moment Kaelynn Dotson walked into my world, I haven’t been able to think, eat, or sleep. After having my heart broken by the only woman I’ve ever loved, Kaelynn has ignited something deep down inside me—a flame so hot that I cannot ignore, no matter how hard I try.

I vowed to never open myself up to a woman again, but there’s something about Kaelynn that is drawing me to her.

There’s just one problem.

She’s hiding something from me. Trust is something I need, but when it comes to Kaelynn, all the lines seem to be blurred. I know I should take this as a warning and walk away, but for some reason, it’s only enticing me more.

~~~~~
I’m living a lie.
I’m not the girl from a middle-class family in Utah like Nash thinks. I’m the heiress to a billion-dollar fortune, and that’s not what he’s looking for. He’s had that before, and it left him scarred.
If the truth comes out, I’ll lose the only man I’ve ever fallen in love with . . . I’m not sure I’m willing to give him up.
My Review
I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of chance encounters and the role fate plays in making them happen. And while I’m not completely sure about fate and free will’s relationship or if they co-exist amicably, what I do feel strongly about is that timing is everything and that being in the right place at the right time allows people to heal, to succeed, and to move forward in their lives to the best of their ability.
Nash Barett and Kaelynn Dotson unexpectedly met each other, and from their first exchange, it was clear there was mutual attraction and perhaps even a spark between them. But these two come from different worlds and since Lily, Nash has sworn off women, which means that as much as Nash is intrigued by and interested in Kaelynn, the repercussions of those feelings might be too much of a risk to take.
I can’t say that I blame Nash for safe-guarding his heart after his ex cheated on him and his trust and faith in women was broken. It has to take a lot for those ill-feelings and unhappy memories to not dictate how to proceed in life. But there’s something about Kaelynn that calls to him…that makes him want to take a chance, the problem is, Kaelynn’s lack of honesty about who she is and where she comes from might make their connection impossible to keep.
On some levels, I understand why Kaelynn hid her real identity. She has
anonymity in Texas unlike in Utah – she can be herself  and be accepted for who she is as a person not due to her last name or the status that goes with it. It has to be awful wondering if people like you and/or want to be around you because of your bank account and what you can do for them or if they truly want to be your friend. But because of what Nash had already endured, I would have thought that Kaelynn would understand the need to be completely honest, even if her reasons seem logical.
A relationship issue that frustrates the heck out of me is a couple’s lack of communication, and this flaw threatens to destroy what Nash and Kaelynn are building and that’s on top of the secret Kaelynn is keeping about her family background. Either one of these issues can upend a relationship, so the fact that they have to contend with both of them definitely makes it seem like there are just too many obstacles standing in their way.
I spent a lot of the story wondering when the truth would be revealed and how Nash would find out, at some parts, I was actually begging for Kaelynn to expose the secret because I knew the longer she took, the more difficult it would be for these two to get back what was more than likely going to break them.
It’s more than clear as the story progresses just how good these two are together, and while it does take them a bit of time to figure things out, once they do, the steamy and heartfelt scenes more than illustrate what they’ve come to mean to each other.
One aspect of Kelly Elliott’s stories that I always love is the roles that the main characters’ family and friends play in the lives of the hero and heroine. Kelly Elliott surrounds her main characters with supportive and comforting people, but also ones who are more than happy to call them on their crap and help them see the truth when it’s unclear to them.
Entice Me is another great read in Elliott’s Austin Singles series; it has a great balance of steamy scenes, dramatic encounters, and heart warming conversations. Nash and Kaelynn have a number of layers to their personalities and I like how the author unravels that information as their story continues and does so in a way that allows readers to truly understand who the characters are and how they feel about everything that plays out in their book.
Synopsis
Massive world tours. Over a hundred million albums sold. Groupies galore.
Every day is a party for Viper and the guys of TBD, the biggest rock band in the world. But it all comes to a screeching halt when the lead singer walks out of the studio one day and never comes back.
Ear-blistering vocals. Butchered lyrics. Fame chasers.
After months of lackluster auditions, Viper, the lead guitarist and resident bad boy of the group, is ready to find solace in the bottom of a bottle. Time’s running out and the pressure’s on to find a new singer, but it isn’t until an angel walks through the door that the band’s prayers are answered.
Charismatic. Talented. Magic behind the mic. Halo is everything they’ve been looking for.
With a voice to match his stunning good looks, it isn’t long before Viper’s taking notice. But there are several reasons this is a bad idea:
  1. Interpersonal relationships in the band are discouraged
  2. Viper has already broken rule #1—big mistake
  3. Halo is straight
Too bad Viper’s body isn’t listening to his head—at least not the one on his shoulders. But you can’t fake chemistry, not onstage and certainly not off it, and Viper and Halo? They have it in spades.
As both men try to resist the fire blazing between them, and the band is forced to reinvent themselves, it’ll be a complicated rise back to the top. But from the ashes of what was, something beautiful is born. Something better. And when the world finally sees Halo stretch his wings, they’ll discover what it’s like to fall for an angel.
RELEASE DAY BLITZ: MAKE ME BAD by R.S. Grey
R.S. Grey’s newest romantic comedy, MAKE ME BAD, is available now!
About MAKE ME BAD
I was issued a warning: stay away from Ben Rosenberg.
As Clifton Cove’s resident “king”, he thinks he’s entitled to anyone and anything.
The trouble is, I’ve spent my whole life following the rules and playing it safe. I know what it feels like to be the good girl. I’m the police chief’s daughter and a librarian—for adorable children, no less. My wardrobe consists of colorful sundresses and baggy jeans. I might as well have a Post-it stuck to my forehead that reads: Yup, she’s a virgin.
An all-nighter with a fictional hunk is about as exciting as my life gets, until one day, fate decides to take pity on me and shove me straight into the path of Mr. Off-Limits himself.
Oof.
Just as I suspected, every inch of him promises to be my demise. Up close, he’s tall, menacing, dangerously handsome—the type of man who’s never spent a single moment worrying about the opinions of others. A well-behaved girl would do as she’s told and avoid him at all costs, but I’m overdue for a little rebellion.
No more Friday nights sprawled out on the couch in my comfiest pajamas. No more wishing I had the courage to misbehave.
Everyone thinks Ben is going to ruin me.
They think he’ll chew me up and spit me out.
Well, Ben…go ahead.
Tempt me. Taunt me.
Make me bad.
My Review
Boy did this book come into my life right when I needed. There’s just something about the way R.S. Grey crafts her romantic, feel good comedies that puts a smile on my face and a song in my heart…well probably not the song part but I’m definitely riding a book high when I finish reading her low angst, adorable reads, and Make Me Bad follows suit, and I might even say it’s one of my absolute favorites of R.S. Grey’s stories!
I can’t tell you how much of Madison’s life was the mirror image of my life at that age. Even though I wasn’t still living at home, I was still the good girl, the rule follower, the girl who didn’t take a lot of risks for fear that my escapades would get back to my father or the school district I taught at because when you live in a small community, everyone seems to know everyone else’s business, and due to Madison’s father’s job as police chief of Clifton Cove, Texas, she can’t do anything or go anywhere without her dad knowing, so I really can’t blame her for being in bed with a good book at 8:00 each night!
Ben Rosenberg’s lifestyle is pretty much the antithesis of Madison’s. Growing up privileged, he had the best of everything and the attitude that goes with living in luxury. Add to that the fact that his past shows that he liked to live it up a bit more than he should have and it’s beyond clear that these two would not ordinarily run in the same circles, which must mean that fate had a say in bringing this shy librarian and well-bred lawyer together.
The fact that Madison’s dad has a history with a younger version of Ben works well with Madison’s desire to branch a bit more than she would ordinarily do, especially after her father forbids her from associating with bad boy Ben, so just going against his wishes is something Madison wouldn’t normally do, but the chemistry between her and Ben as well as their attraction to each other resonates from the pages, so I can’t say that I blame Madison for choosing to live dangerously and go behind her dad’s back by striking up a friendship and maybe even more with one of his enemies.
I love that Madison didn’t completely go off the rails when it came to her misbehavior; she’s been a rule follower for so long as well as a daughter and a sister who almost always listened to her father and her brother’s dictates that becoming unhinged wouldn’t have realistically illustrated her desire to be bad, so the fact that Madison works on spreading her wings, breaking away from her father’s influence, and taking the necessary steps to become her own woman was the perfect path for her, and the fact that Ben allowed her to do that and guide her when she needed a tutorial or two in how to take a walk on the wild side.
I absolutely adored Madison and Ben’s story. It’s funny, romantic, and entertaining with the perfect amount of sexual tension and steam. Readers will be smitten by Madison’s quirky personality and the things Ben does to show her how he sees her and how she should see herself.
Make Me Bad checked off EVERY SINGLE ONE of my romantic comedy boxes and then some. It’s such a fantastic read, and it made me feel so damn ooey gooey inside when I was finished reading!
RELEASE BLAST AND REVIEW: DIARY OF A BAD BOY by Meghan Quinn
Dear Diary,
I might have gotten myself into a wee bit of trouble—and I’m not talking about the “court mandated community service,” or “therapy sessions from bashing a bloke in the head” kind of trouble.
I wish it were that simple.
Nope. I’m talking about the “falling in love with one of my client’s daughters,” kind of trouble . . .
The kind of problem I can’t talk my way out of when the truth gets out.
How I ended up with her phone is a long story—and when she called to get it back, I took things a bit too far. One innocent exchange wound up leading to so much more.
Fun, new, and totally immune to my charm, Sutton is different. And I had no idea she was the daughter of Foster Green.
Blame it on the dark colored stout running through my veins, pushing me toward one bad decision after another. Pushing me toward her even though I know right from wrong; even though she’s my client’s daughter.
Dating her might be the best or worst decision I’ve ever made. Only time, whiskey, and one more roll around the mattress with her will tell.
My Review
Dear Diary,
First, let me begin by saying that I would absolutely love to get my hands on Roark McCool’s diary…I mean….journal, even if he was forced to write in it and even if it’s full of obscenities and absurdities. It’s probably as real as it gets for him, which is exactly what I wanted to understand about him, and even though I more than wanted to throttle him at times, I could forgive him for absolutely everything as long as he kept talking to me in his hella sexy Irish accent.
When it comes to male characters, more so than females, there’s usually a reason for their manwhore lifestyle, reckless behavior, and/or cocky attitude, because, for the most part, these traits all serve as shields to cover up exactly who the hero is and what he’s feeling, not only due to a hellish past, but also to a present that he doesn’t quite know how to stop spiraling in and out of with each bad decision and inappropriate action he takes.
Roark is definitely an Irish bad boy; he exudes testosterone, not only because he tends to use his fists instead of his words, but because he has a swagger about him, as do his two best friends, Bram and Rath, that allows him and them to own any place that they’re at and get anyone’s attention who they deem they want. These three guys have quite the bromance happening, and I can definitely see what the allure is when it comes to their alpha demeanors and smooth moves.
Sutton Green is so not Roark’s type; in fact, she might be the antithesis of every single one of his hookups, but that’s what makes her interesting to him…that’s what makes him pursue her in a way that he’s never done with anyone, and because Sutton wants nothing to do with the ill-mannered whanker, not because she’s not attracted to him but because he confidence is overwhelming and aggravating at the same time.
I love how Meghan Quinn set-up this story; because she provides readers with diary entries from Roark’s more than chaotic thoughts and feelings throughout the book, we get to know him on a level that he doesn’t seem to portray out in the open, until he starts to realize just how much Sutton means to him. I also loved witnessing Sutton’s growth; at the beginning she seemed too sheltered…to innocent, but she can’t be that way and go toe-to-toe with Roark, which means that she needs to stand her ground with him and offer him all the snark and attitude she can provide and it’s amazing how easily it is to trace just how much she comes out of her shell and gives Roark as good as she gets.
The witty exchanges, the snarky heroine, the male camaraderie are all attributes that I’ve come to expect from Meghan Quinn and those elements can be found through Dairy of a Bad Boy, and the fact that there’s only one guy’s story left has me anxiously waiting to see what happens with Rath!!
4.5 Poison Apples
The Girl in the Painting, an all-new standalone romance from New York Times bestselling author Max Monroe, is available now!
Ansel Bray, an artist known around the world for his tragic hiatus from the canvas.
Ansel Bray, a broody, handsome man not known by me, at all.
Long dark hair, blue eyes, and dimpled cheeks. I’ve never met her, but her image is imprinted in my mind. An angel muse who inspires me to paint again.
There is something about him. Something that spurs a need to be as close to him as possible. A need to find out why.
There is something about her. Something that draws me in. Something that urges me to find out what her presence means.
Why does the girl in his painting look so much like me?
Who is this girl, and why can I see her so vividly?
I shouldn’t fall in love with him.
I shouldn’t fall in love at all.
But fate plays her hand.
But fate has other plans.
The lines of my life will blur.
The needs of my heart will change.
What a beautiful mess we’ve made.
Max Monroe took me on quite the unexpected journey in The Girl in the Painting. The amount of feelings present in the storyline and the interesting way this writing duo brought their hero and heroine together, even before they met in person, captivated me as did the fact that they are both artists, albeit in different fields, who have lost their passion due to circumstances out of their control.
Ansel Bray and Indy Davis have pasts that have scarred them, and it’s those scars that have made them lose some of the joy that they once had for a livelihood that used to hold so much wonder as well as comfort in their lives. And they contemplate as do readers as they begin to understand how everything turned the way it did in the characters’ present lives, if there’s a way to do more than just exist…if there’s a way to find their passion again, and perhaps even find someone who feels the exact same way, offering them both an opportunity to come alive again despite the obstacles and extenuating circumstances that still seem to be holding them back.
Artists, in any capacity, can definitely be a broody bunch, especially when they’re struggling or dealing with personal issues, and that’s so the case with Ansel Bray, but when he gets a new lease on life, he literally starts to see things differently and his eyes open up to an entirely new perspective as well as a new quest, so to speak, for his life, both professionally and personally.
The path that brought these two into each other’s lives almost seemed fated, and while Ansel and Indy had their ups and downs as they began their friendship, they find something with one another that they had been missing, causing Indy, especially, to reassess who she is and what she wants while also gaining insight into ideas that allow her to make the changes she needs to make, redefining and challenging herself in all areas of her life.
I’m a reader who adores authors who don’t confine themselves to certain tropes or genres…who willingly step outside their tried and true storylines, growing as storytellers and crafting multifaceted characters who change significantly as their stories are told. And even before The Girl in the Painting, I felt like Max Monroe was that kind of writing duo, and with the release of Ansel and Indy’s book, I can wholeheartedly say that they are, in fact, extremely talented writers with a wide range of story ideas and the gumption to write them all.
4 Poison Apples
Excerpt
Ansel
Three knocks rap against the closed door of my studio, and I sigh.
Apparently, my assistant doesn’t understand what no distractions means. I shouldn’t be surprised, though. Lucy’s priorities have nothing to do with her role as my assistant. Half the time, people who come to my studio don’t even realize she works here. They probably just assume she’s some sort of social media influencer wasting time in my lobby by taking cleavage shots.
Another two knocks ring out, and I ignore whoever is on the other side and focus my gaze back on the half-painted canvas in front of me.
As if my hand is on autopilot, I watch as it gently creates the soft lines of her hair. Stroke after stroke, dark brown and honey-beige and gold combine to make the flowing locks that cascade down her back.
Eventually, though, the knocks grow so persistent that I can hardly follow the rhythm of the soft background music serving as a medium for my artistic exploration.
Fucking Lucy.
“Go away!” I call over my shoulder, but the answering chuckle is not an annoyed feminine laugh. No. It’s husky and deep and rough around the edges.
“Ans, it’s Nigel,” the disturbance answers back.
Nigel Marx. We grew up together on the outskirts of the Bronx and found our way into the art world during our college years. Where I’ve always had an innate ability to create, Nigel has a natural talent for seeking out beauty.
If anyone can find art worth seeing, it’s Nigel. Or Nye, as I’ve grown to call him over the years.
Even though he’s one of my oldest friends, I groan and contemplate at least ten different ways to tell him to fuck off. I may not be as grumpy as I was before the surgery, but being interrupted during the creative process brings me as close to that level of aggravation as I come these days.
But even the bad-tempered side of my personality knows a verbal middle finger is unwarranted.
Technically speaking, it’s probably not even his fault. My assistant is undoubtedly too busy posting pictures of her new nose job on Instagram to follow my instructions and man the reception desk in the front.
So, eventually, I set my brush down beside my paints, move the canvas into the small, hidden nook near the windows, and tell him to come inside.
Dressed in a sharp black suit and tie, Nigel strides in as I head over to the sink to wash the dried paint off my hands.
“Did I interrupt?” he asks, and I glance at him over my shoulder.
“Yep.”
A big, hearty laugh escapes his throat. “You don’t even want to pretend I’m not being a huge inconvenience to you right now?”
“Pretty sure you know me better than that,” I say with a grin and swipe the extra moisture off my hands onto my jeans. “I’m not a beat-around-the-bush kind of guy, Nigel.”
He grins at that.
“What brought about this gloriously annoying visit of yours today?”
“Just want to make sure you’re ready for the big opening,” he says and slides his hands into the pockets of his dress pants. I don’t miss the way he takes it upon himself to peruse my studio, his eyes taking in all of the empty canvases stacked in the corner and the finished works scattered along the floor and the walls.
“By all means, please feel free to browse. You know how much I love that.”
He ignores my jab completely. “So, can I count on you to be there?”
“Be where?”
“You know where, you bastard.” He glares. “Does January 31st ring a bell? The big exhibition some of us have been working so hard on.”
“If I weren’t such a big person, I wouldn’t be able to ignore the fact that you’re insinuating I, the artist, haven’t done any work for the show.”
He rolls his eyes. “You know that’s not what I meant. Stop trying to distract me.”
Now it’s my turn to make a show of my new eyes’ ability to move. “We’ve already been through this, man. There’s no reason for me to be there.”
Unconvinced, Nye presses on. “It’s your opening, Ans. You need to be there.”
“I don’t need to be anywhere.”
“Tell me this…why wouldn’t you want to be there? This is your first exhibition in five years. Since before the accident. This is huge. If anything, you should be there to celebrate that you’re painting again. That you’re alive.”
And just like that, he’s answered his own question. He just doesn’t know it.
Circuslike fanfare and a giant spotlight on my tragic past are the last things I want. I just want to paint without all of the fucking hoopla.
“How about this? I’ll drink a glass of whiskey tonight to celebrate. I’ll even give myself a special toast.”
“If you drink that glass of whiskey inside my gallery, on the night of your opening, then we have a deal.”
It’s my turn to laugh. “Not happening.”
“The press will be there. Your fans will be there. People want to see you. They want to talk to you. Interview you. Why don’t you want to be there?”
“For those exact fucking reasons, Nye,” I answer honestly. “While I’m thankful people still want to see my art, I don’t need the ego trip that comes with gallery openings and interviews. I don’t need fans kissing my ass, and I sure as fuck don’t need rich investors schmoozing me up because it makes them think they’ll have a better shot at getting their greedy hands on one of my paintings.”
Silence stretches between us, and I hope that means Nigel has finally come to terms with the reality of my absence at the opening.
Before the accident, I would’ve been there in a heartbeat. I would’ve been the guy with the big fucking ego and some random, superficially beautiful model attached to my arm. The douchebag looking at everyone inside that gallery and mentally giving myself a pat on the back.
But I’m not that guy anymore. I haven’t been that guy since the day I went blind.
Do I claim to be the world’s happiest, most-together guy? Fuck no. Like I said, on my best day, I’m still an asshole. But after living in the dark for what felt like an eternity, I’ve at least realized a few things.
For one, money, success—material shit—doesn’t mean a fucking thing.
You can’t buy happiness.
And, two? Friends are better to have than fans. Friends stick with you no matter what.
“Okay.” Nigel’s voice breaks our silence. “Fine. I won’t ask you again.”
I grin. “That sounds like a truly brilliant idea.”
“Why haven’t I seen this one?”
I follow his gaze to the far corner of my studio, and instantly, I know which painting he’s talking about. My chest tightens with unease. I can’t believe I left that one out in the open like this…
I run a hand through my hair and try to make myself sound at least somewhat disinterested. “Because it wasn’t a painting I wanted to put in the exhibition.”
My voice sounds slightly higher pitched, even to my own ears. Dammit.
About a year after my transplant, Dr. Smith cleared me to go back to my normal life—back to painting. I found myself inside this studio with a brush in my hand and a beautiful girl in my mind.
Crystal-blue eyes, dark, dimensional hair, and dimpled cheeks, every detail of her face and features vivid to the point of precision.
I couldn’t stop picturing her. The way her full lips appear when they’re curled into a smile. The way she looks mid-laugh. The way her eyes light up beneath the sun.
She was all I could see, this girl I’ve never met before, this girl I’ve never actually seen.
She was the first thing I painted after the transplant, and she’s been locked inside my mind ever since—for nearly three years, to be exact.
But who’s counting, right?
I nearly snort out loud. The truth is, my obsession is nearly pathetic and almost certainly unhealthy. But I can’t seem to stop myself.
“This is…stunning,” he says quietly as his eyes rake over the canvas. “She’s stunning.”
His words, while holding no harm or ill will, make me feel incredibly uncomfortable.
Like I need to shield her from his eyes. I feel too vulnerable. Too raw.
Nigel turns to meet my eyes. “Why didn’t you want to put this one in the exhibition?”
“I don’t know.” Because it’s too special to me.
He looks at the painting for a long moment before moving his eyes back to mine. “Should I know who she is?”
“No.”
A figment of my imagination?
Some kind of angel muse?
I don’t know, but I can’t stop painting her.
“Is this the only one of her?”
“Yes,” I flat out lie. Besides the one he’s looking at, there are another four finished canvases hidden away and at least seven in progress. But I’m already pissed enough at myself for leaving this one out for him to see.
Strange and most likely fucking insane, I know, but it’s the reality.
“You need to add this one to the exhibition.”
I shake my head. “I don’t think that’s a good idea.”
“Your other works are amazing, but this,it’s something else, Ans,” he says and glances back at the painting. “It belongs in the exhibition.”
Silence stretches between us, and I’m torn about what to say.
Fuck no seems inappropriately callous, but I’m having a hell of a time coming up with any other words.
The artist inside of me agrees with his assessment. That painting—and the other paintings of her—is special.
She draws the viewer in just as she’s done with me, like a mermaid luring sailors to their deaths.
But everything else inside me wants to keep her to myself.
“Ans, people need to see this painting,” Nye urges.
I let out a deep exhale. “I don’t know…”
“Ans, this one has to be in the show.” His gaze is steady, unwavering. “You and I both know it would be a fucking travesty if it weren’t in there.”
My back tenses, but for some reason, the word “Okay” slips from my lips.
My stomach churns and my mind races and I don’t know why I’m agreeing, but I am. I don’t know why I feel sick over the prospect of other people seeing this painting, but I do.
The way I’m feeling, the way my emotions intertwine with her paintings, is a complete mystery to me.
Just like her.
The problem is, he once loved my best friend. And now she’s gone, and I refuse to be in that shadow, or worse, a replacement for someone we both loved.
~~
I left them all behind.
My brother.
My family.
My best friend.
And her.
Only Sienna Knight doesn’t realize what she means to me. But before I can make sure she knows, I need to figure out exactly what that is.
About BREAKING WITHOUT YOU
Available April 16, 2019
From NYT bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan, comes a brand new series where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew.
I fell for Cameron Connolly at the wrong time. And when he left, I thought my life was over. But then, after the worst happened, I truly understood what that phrase meant. Now, he’s not ready for a second chance, and I’m not offering one. Though given that our families have been forced together after losing one of our own, I know there’s no turning back. Not this time. Not again. Not when it comes to Cameron.
~~
I never wanted to hurt Violet Knight, but there were reasons I had to leave all those years ago—not that she’d believe me if I told her what they were. I not only left her, I also left my foster brothers. Honestly, I didn’t want to come back to Denver to help run my father’s failing brewery. But when it comes to my brothers, I know I’ll find a way to make it work. Perhaps I’ll even earn Violet’s forgiveness and face the connection we both thought long forgotten in the process. Because I wanted her then, but now I know I need her. I just hope she needs me.
