RELEASE BLITZ: ALL WE WERE by Elisabeth Grace and Michelle Lynn

Will I ever stop hurting the one person who’s never hurt me?

I’ve done things I can never undo.

No matter how much I wish I could, sometimes the wounds I inflict are too deep, too catastrophic, too septic to heal.

As I look into the eyes of the only man I’ve ever loved I know I’ve gone too far. I’ve finally crossed the line.

Even if he knew my reason for doing this, he’d never forgive me.

He always puts my needs before his own.

Now it’s my turn to protect him.

None of that matters though because the betrayal and disgust in his eyes comes from deep within his soul. There’s no coming back from this.

He will forever be tormented by what he’s seen, and he will never forgive me.

The last fragment of my heart to hold out hope that we’d share a future, withers and dies.

Coming face-to-face with my past changes EVERYTHING.

I’m at the top of my game. All my struggles have finally paid off. Life should be great.

I mean, life is great.

Except for the fact that I can’t stop thinking of her. The woman who mangled my heart into a bloody pulp and never looked back.

If I could free myself of our shared memories, my future would be golden.

There’s only one way to move on—I have to confront the past, so I can move into the next chapter of my life in peace. Which means confronting her for the final time.

I had no idea that knocking on her door that day would turn my life upside down.

#YOURNEXTBBF Greyson Ratcliffe from Our Unscripted Story by L.A. Fiore

Welcome to my second stop on the Meet Your Next Book Boyfriend Tour! My second book boyfriend is Greyson Ratcliffe from L.A. Fiore’s Our Unscripted Story.  Greyson Ratcliffe is an amazing artist who captures beauty in every piece that he creates, but where he finds his home is in Alexis’ enchanting eyes. Greyson is driven to succeed and it’s that determination that not only makes him a successful artist but it’s what allows him to endure the years that Alexis is not by his side. Greyson is everything a hero should be, and it’s not because of his gorgeous physical appearance. He’s kind, giving, and so in love with Alexis that he only ever sees her…she’s his end game…she’s his everything, so even though they spent five years apart, she’s never far from his mind and she definitely never leaves his heart.

Check out the letter Greyson wrote to his wife, Alexis for their 25th Wedding Anniversary and don’t forget to enter the giveaway!

Greyson’s Letter to Alexis For Their 25th Wedding Anniversary

Dear Alexis,

I speak through my art, but for the twenty-fifth anniversary of our meeting I’m going to use your medium. Will attempt to express through words just what you mean to me.

I was so sure in my youth that I had only one focus, one goal, and that was to express what I felt through art, to leave a little piece of myself in my work. I wasn’t looking for you, didn’t even think I needed anyone. I was happy and content in my life.

I felt you that first day, before I even turned to see you, I felt you. At the time, I didn’t understand, but I know now it was fate tapping me on the shoulder. Directing me to someone I didn’t know I was looking for, didn’t know I needed.

I wish I could relive that first moment when I turned and saw you. I knew then the significance of the meeting, but after all these years together I want so much to have that first meeting again so I can take in very detail—the scents off the ocean, the heat of the sun on my skin, the feel of the rock under me, the sound of the gulls flying overhead. I want that so every time I smell the ocean, feel the sun, stand on our jetty, hear the gulls I will remember the moment that changed my life forever. The moment where the dream I hadn’t even known I dreamt came true.

You literally took my breath that day and you have been taking my breath every single day since.  I don’t know what it is that connects us, but it has bound us for twenty-five years. My Irish background would say it was magic, that invisible bond that tethers us. I think it’s simply love, the seeing in another the parts you are missing in yourself. It’s what you have done for me, filling in the missing parts, infusing me with your wit, warmth and love, completing me like the fitting of that last puzzle piece.

We haven’t always had a smooth ride. Life has thrown us shit, but we weathered the storms and have grown stronger and closer because of them. I don’t know what awaits us in the future, but I have learned from my past mistakes. When life hands you your heart’s desire, you don’t give it back. You hold her close and face the future together. Good or bad it doesn’t matter as long as I go to sleep next to you every night and wake to your beautiful face every morning, as long as I get to watch you with our children, hold you when you cry, laugh with you when you’re happy and love you until we’re both exhausted.

Our story is still being told, chapters and chapters still to be written, and when we’re gone, off to live among the stars, our story will still continue because the greatest love stories never die. Happy anniversary, my beautiful wife.

Yours always and forever,

Greyson

Blurb

Greyson Ratcliffe. I met him at sixteen, the hot new guy sitting on my jetty, an aspiring artist just passing through. He was my first kiss and my first love. I wanted forever with him. I didn’t even get a year.

Five years later, I’m a budding writer who scripts stories of love and struggle, the good and the bad and the ups and the downs. He’s a star on the rise; his wicked talent and crazy good looks have his face plastered on countless magazines. We move in two different worlds and still our paths cross again. We’re older and wiser and as crazy about each other as we had been as teenagers.

My medium is words and my imagination is limitless, but not even I could have written the incredible journey we traveled to reach our happily-ever-after. Life isn’t like fiction, and the greatest love stories don’t follow a script.

OUS RD

I just finished Our Unscripted Story this morning, sitting at my desk in my classroom, praying that my eyes no longer look red and puffy when my students enter the room. I truly cannot express how much I adored Alexis and Greyson’s love story; it’s emotional…it’s passionate…it’s as heartwarming as it is heartbreaking…it’s a first love, last love book that illustrates just how powerful a connection can be formed with just one look…one word…one embrace. L.A. Fiore takes her readers on one hell of an epic journey – one that not only spans decades and continents, but also provides readers with a clear view of just how much people are willing to sacrifice when it comes to the people they love, even if it destroys them in the process.

Alexis and Greyson’s story began when they were teens and even though they took their own paths, which separated them for a significant amount of time, they promised one another they would find their way back because a love like theirs was meant to last forever, so as their story unfolds, it’s divided into three parts, and those parts show readers their lives as young adults, their individual lives as they work to achieve their dreams and goals, and the moments when their lives become one again, building off of their bond that was formed all those years ago and adding a deeper connection – one where promises and vows are made, which tether them together always, despite the obstacles and difficulties that force their way in and threaten to undo everything they’ve built since they were teens.

Alexis Owens is an incredibly strong heroine who uses her imagination and her words to help her cope with the reality of her childhood, and it’s that ability that allows Alexis to remain positive and hopeful despite the neglect…despite the loneliness…despite her unwavering desire to have the fairy tale life that she so easily loses herself in on a daily basis. But her life is not always a struggle; in fact, when Greyson Ratcliffe enters her life she finds her soul mate, and even though she understands that their paths will lead them away from each other, it’s with the understanding that their love will not dull even when they’re apart because one fateful meeting is all it took to know that there will come a time again when they will be together forever.

‘Life wasn’t like the fiction I wrote. It didn’t follow a script; it didn’t have a formula. Our story was still being written, unscripted, real…’

Alexis’ words will resonate with readers because she understands just how ‘unexpected’ life can be, and she sure as heck would not have scripted her separation from her parents, her mistreatment by her foster parents, or the heartbreak that comes into her life. Life is real. Life is difficult. Life is impulsive. Life is all about weathering the ups and downs, the highs and lows, the losses and the gains. And it’s that idea that drives both Alexis and Greyson to make the events of their life as full and as passionate as they can, and while sometimes, life throws them a curveball, they work that much harder to roll with the punches until the reality of their lives positions them together with a lifetime to create their story – one that began with one look and hopefully will end just as it began that day they first noticed each other and made their dreams a reality.

I can’t end my review without mentioning the secondary characters who become Alexis and Greyson’s family. The Cantenellis, Paige and Grant and their daughters, and Greyson’s grandfather, Callum, add so much to Alexis and Greyson’s life: history, love, support, and a multitude of memories that will last a lifetime. And it’s those bonds that help both Alexis and Greyson to cope with the loss of their parents, the loss of one another for those five years, and they are definitely the people who have their backs, call them out on their lunacy and give them a place to safely fall when things become too overwhelming. Alexis and Greyson may not have had their parents with them as they grew up and became successful, but they were not without family, and it’s the ones who choose to be with you that come to mean everything.

Every time I enter one of L.A. Fiore’s stories, I’m swept away by her beautiful words…by her descriptive storytelling…by her multifaceted characters. Her love stories illustrate just how much work a relationship takes as well as just how much a love like that is worth the heartache, the pain, and the fear that come with giving someone else your heart. There’s definitely a risk in loving someone so intensely because a life without them isn’t worth living, but to not have experienced that kind of love, regardless of the amount of time you have together, is a fate worse than loneliness.

Alexis and Greyson’s story is one that will stay with me for quite some time, and there’s a bevy of reasons why, but the one idea that I keep coming back to is the fact that Our Unscripted Story is an honest and open love story – one that allows both main characters to find their own successes and one that allows them a way back to one another. It’s a hopeful story despite the sadness, and it’s one spectacular love story despite their time apart and the missteps they take when they’re together.

It’s amazing what can be made with words and hands alone, and whether it be a work of art, a fictional story, or family’s history brought to life, all mediums provide the imagination the limitless opportunity to explore, to create, and to cherish.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: Irresistible by Melanie Harlow

Irresistible - BT Banner.jpg

“Sexy, heartfelt–did I mention sexy? With the perfect touch of the forbidden, Melanie Harlow has outdone herself with single dad Mack and Frannie’s story!”

— Ilsa Madden-Mills, Wall Street Journal bestselling author

Irresistible, an all-new fun and swoony standalone from USA Today bestselling author Melanie Harlow, is available now!

Irresistible FOR WEB.jpg

I’m a full-time single dad to three daughters and CFO at Cloverleigh Farms. I don’t have time to fall in love—I’m too busy trying to run a business, keep the red socks out of the white laundry, and get the damn pillowcases on without owing a dollar to the swear jar.

Sure, Frannie Sawyer is beautiful and sweet, but she’s twenty-seven, the boss’s daughter, and my new part-time nanny—which means she’s completely off-limits. It’s bad enough I can’t stop fantasizing about her, what kind of jerk would I be if I acted on the impulse to kiss her?

(Exactly the kind of jerk you’re thinking.)

Actually, I’m worse than that—because I didn’t stop with a kiss, and now I can’t stay away. She makes me feel like myself again. She reminds me what it’s like to want something just for me. She’s everything I ever needed, but nothing I ever imagined.

I’m a former Marine. I should have had the strength to resist her from the start.

But I didn’t. And now I have to choose between the life I want and the life she deserves.

Even if it means giving her up.

My Review

What is it about single dads that make them so appealing in romance stories?

Perhaps it’s the fact that they seem to truly understand how precious his time his with his kids despite the chaos that surrounds their daily lives. Or, it could be because they have no problem showing love and affection to their children and go out of their way to protect and cherish them at all costs.

So just knowing that Mack is a single father to three beautiful girls amps up his appeal and makes it quite easy to fall in love with him as soon as he shows just how much they mean to him and what he’s willing to do to put them first. And I think the fact that Melanie Harlow doesn’t just show all of the happy and fun times that Mack experiences with his three daughters but also offers an insider’s view of their chaotic life and the maelstrom of schedules, lunches, and laundry that Mack must work through each and every day adds a realistic perspective to this single business man’s challenge to make it to the end of each day just to turn back around and start it all over again.

Mack wears many different hats as a single dad running a business and raising three daughters, which means there’s not much time for himself – no easy way to have something just for him – so the fact that he’s attracted to his boss’ youngest daughter is not something he can act on, not only due to the forbidden aspect of any kind of non-plutonic relationship existing but also because, when everything is said and done, he really doesn’t have much room in his life for anything else, especially something that could end his career as well as hurt his children in the process.

But sometimes the right person is just too irresistible to give up and based on the way Mack and Frannie look at each other and connect on the most basic of levels, what’s between them is not something that can be ignored, even if it makes their lives exponentially more difficult.

Because of the complicated situation that Mack and Frannie create when they give into their attraction and their feelings for one another, problems arise that have no easy answers, which means that even though these two can’t seem to stay away from each other, their path to a happily ever after is a struggle, not only because of Mack’s responsibilities at home and at his job, but also because he has more than just himself to think about, so it’s difficult to put himself ahead of his girls, even if that means sacrificing his happiness for theirs.

Melanie Harlow is known for her good guy heroes and Mack definitely fits that mold. He’s genuine and caring and he shows his girls just how much they mean to him. Mack and his daughters’ interactions were so fun to read and there were a plethora of swoon worthy moments when he was with them and then when Harlow brought Frannie into the mix, she proved just how well the five of them fit together, despite Mack and Frannie’s age difference, Mack’s position in Frannie’s family’s company and those well placed obstacles that seem to indicate there’s no way that a relationship between them could work.

I’m beyond excited for this series to continue – not only because of the main and secondary characters readers have met but because the setting of the series is in an environment that adds the perfect atmosphere for realistic stories about love, life, and laughter.

Excerpt

I was holding my breath.

I wasn’t even sure why, but it was something about the way Mack was looking at me. And the tension in his body—the taut muscles in his neck. The grip of his fingers on the edge of the counter. The set of his jaw. It gave the impression of restraint. Like he was holding himself back.

Something unfamiliar hummed in the air between us. I could feel it—he wanted me the way I wanted him.

No wonder I couldn’t breathe.

Then he cleared his throat and turned away from me, cutting off the current. “Sure. Everybody needs to make mistakes now and then.”

I’d forgotten I’d even asked the question.

He turned the sink on, rinsed his dishes, and placed them in the dishwasher. I stood there staring at his muscular back, at the width of his shoulders, at the snug fit of his jeans on his butt. If I were his and he were mine, I’d go over and wrap my arms around his waist, press my cheek to his back. Then he’d turn around, winding his arms around me. He’d lower his lips to mine, and—

“I should get you home,” he said, interrupting my fantasy. “Want to grab your coat?”

“Sure.” But I didn’t really want to leave. I wanted to stay in this warm, chaotic house with him and the girls. Pretend I belonged here. Pretend I belonged to him.

RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW: Would Be King by Kim Karr

I dare him not to fall in love with me…

Would Be King by Kim Karr is available now!

Amazon — https://amzn.to/2U5T4lS

FREE with #KindleUnlimited

A dare turns into so much more…

All I want to do is get to work on time.
But a Prince Harry look-a-like is trying to steal my cab,
And I’ll fight for it to the bitter end.

In the midst of our verbal battle,
I discover I lost my wallet.
So I bargain—a free ride for a kiss.

What starts out as innocent quickly steams up the windows.
His lips are soft, and when he tugs me closer,
I press my entire body against his hard muscles, and practically strip him from his expensive suit.
This is the best taxi ride of my life.
Until it ends just as quickly as it began.
Embarrassed over my behavior, I rush out without so much as a goodbye.

But fate, that bitch,
Has us pounding on the same locked door.
Already knowing I’m going to be fired,
I curse my new boss and his new rules.
The hot suit laughs, and dares me to tell my new boss what a dick he’s being.
With nothing to lose, I accept.

Never in a million years could I have imagined he is my new boss.
Arrogant.
Sexy.
And totally off-limits.
Dating him is against the rules.
His rules.
He doesn’t seem to care.
Until I dare him not to fall in love with me.

Even then he says that’s easy.
That the only four-letter word he lives by is duty.
But this would-be-king is about to fall hard…for a commoner.

My Review

I dare you not to fall in love with Prince Maximus Napoleon Montgomery – the ginger heartthrob who’s taking New York fashion industry by storm and razing a little hell in the process, even if he’s supposed to be keeping a low profile.

This ‘would be king’ has gotten himself into quite a bit of trouble, so he’s been shipped off to the states to right his ship, so to speak, in order prepare himself to fulfill his royal duties and prevent anymore unwanted bad press for his family’s name, but once a rascal, always a rascal, which means that Max doesn’t even have to be looking for trouble for it to find him, and with social media and the paparazzi constantly in both his personal and professional life, they’re bound to catch him in some rather precarious positions with quite the lovely American commoner regardless of the fact that he’s her boss and there’s a company no fraternization clause in place.

Gigi Gatsby is a pocket full of sunshine, which is exactly what Max finds most attractive about her. She’s creative, intelligent, and genuine, which is something lacking in the people Max usually surrounds himself with…these two have incredible chemistry and their attraction to each other is palpable but there are huge obstacles in their way that not even the brightness of Gigi’s heart and soul could surmount on their own.

Kim Karr expertly uses social media to help tell Max and Gigi’s story. The Casanovia Conquest and Tweets are perfectly placed and shed light on the way of the world when it comes to celebrities and royals. They also allow readers to see exactly how enamored society is and how free they are with their words while hiding behind their computer screen. It’s also a great way to show instead of tell specific details when it comes to what Max and Gigi have to deal with, especially Gigi when she has to accept information and figure out if it is the truth or more lies.

There’s quite a bit of drama to be dealt with in Would Be King, which is logical given Max’s royal heritage, the position he’s required to take, and the fact that what he truly craves is something he may not be able to keep.

I absolutely adored Max and Gigi’s story; it’s royally entertaining, heartfelt, and swoon worthy, and Max is definitely at the top of my list of all of Kim Karr’s book boyfriends.

My Review

I am loving Natasha Madison’s Hollywood Royalty series; there’s just something about getting a backstage pass into what occurs behind the scenes – the not so glitzy and glamorous aspects of celebrity status – that I find entertaining and insightful, especially given the fact that the public has their own preconceived notions about celebrities’ lifestyles, which almost always end up being glorified and skewed to conform to the belief that celebrities want for nothing and rarely face life’s more difficult paths. So getting the inside scoop from multiple perspectives of those involved in the ins and outs of a celebrity’s daily life not only makes for a good story, but it also allows the reality of their circumstances to be explored in an honest and open way because celebrities are every day people who experience love, loss, hardship, and heartache just like anyone else.

As soon as I learned that Hollywood Princess would be Kellie Hudson and Brian’s story, I was beyond excited to see how their feelings for each other despite Brian’s role in Kellie’s safety would play out. And then when I got a sneak peek of the sexual tension that existed between these two characters and found out that Madison would be providing readers with both the hero and the heroine’s first person perspective, I knew I would be able to hear all of their thoughts, understand the meaning of every stolen look at each other, and be beyond frustrated with just how stubborn they both would be when it came to getting what they want and keeping it.

90 days on tour with the object of one’s fantasy in close proximity at every turn would put anyone on edge, which is why the initial interactions between Kellie and Brain are strained and snarky, but once they establish some ground rules, spend more time together, and begin to understand each other on a deeper level, the sexual tension heightens dramatically and it’s just a matter of when not if these two will do something about their strong feelings for each other.

Kellie and Brian definitely know how to get underneath each other’s skin and their banter will keep readers thoroughly entertained, but it’s their honesty and the promise of what these two could be that endears me to them. I absolutely understand Brian’s predicament; he’s a professional tasked with protecting his client at all costs and any type of feelings outside of employer/employee complicates his job and could throw him off his game, putting Kellie’s life at risk. So the fact that Brain tries to keep a hands-off approach to Kellie fits the kind of alpha male he is, but if he wants her to trust him to protect her, he needs to also trust that she can reciprocate and follow directions when need be.

I can’t say that I’ve read many suspenseful stalker romances, so the story’s unique plot line, at least in terms of what I usually read, was a nice change of pace, and I have to say that even though I could see how everything was going to play out when it came to Kellie’s safety and the person who was harassing and threatening her, Madison presents it in a well-written and detailed way that still allowed me to enjoy the intense moments that Kellie and Brian faced as well as what it meant for the two of them in the end.

I really enjoyed Kellie and Brian’s story and I’m anxious to see what Natasha Madison has in store for her Hollywood Prince – Carter.

4.5 Poison Apples

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: Sweet Liar by Laurelin Paige

SWEET LIAR (Dirty Sweet #1) by Laurelin Paige

Release Date: February 26th, 2019

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Blurb

British ad exec Dylan Locke isn’t looking for love. He isn’t looking for fate. He’s definitely not looking for Audrey Lind. She’s pretty, far too young, and overly romantic–in short, exhausting.

But when the girl, young enough to be his daughter, literally lands in his lap and asks for his expertise, he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t interested. In her body, in her innocence, in her philosophy.

In the kind of kismet that starts with kisses.

But Audrey isn’t looking for love either–she’s looking for lessons, and she’s certain Dylan knows everything she needs to learn.

If he agrees to play the teacher can he keep his heart?

Of course he can.

Then again, he might be lying.

My Review

For some reason, I haven’t read too many age gap romances, and it’s not because I don’t like them…I’m of the mind that if two people are compatible, can relate to each other regardless of how different their lives are, and share a connection worth pursuing, it shouldn’t matter what their ages are as long as they’re both consenting adults. And let me tell you, even though Dylan is hesitant to pursue Audrey given their 19 year age difference, when he finally stops denying his desire for Audrey, nothing else matters but what they can learn from each other, both in and out of the bedroom

Despite the fact that Sweet Liar is a short text, from their first interaction, it’s obvious that Dylan Locke and Audrey Lind are attracted to each other…despite their age difference…despite their opposite views on love and relationships…despite his jadedness and her innocence…despite the fact that she’s only visiting and he travels back and forth between London and New York.

There’s not a dirtier universe than the one Laurelin Paige creates her stories in, and she adds another great one with Dylan and Audrey’s duet. And with Sweet Fate releasing in March, readers won’t have too long to wait to find out what fate has in store for the conclusion to their story.

Excerpt

Too bad she was that kind of girl. The kind of girl who wanted a man to love her before she lifted her skirt.

God, she was young. Younger than whatever ridiculous young age she actually was.

I’d sworn off love years ago, but not sex. Never sex. And Audrey Lind was all sorts of temptation, the kind I knew better to stay away from. She was too romantic. She was too American. She was too young. Much too young. I was definitely old enough to be her father. Probably.

Definitely.

I didn’t want to think about that.

“I’m pretty sure I can convince you kismet exists too, if you’ll just do one thing.”

“What’s that?”

“Kiss me.”

I was alone. I would always be alone.

I was a girl who felt things.

Dylan was polite, but he wasn’t nice.

I thought she’d be less dangerous in the sunlight.

I was wrong.

She was sex on heels, and I was a goner.

Audrey Lind: Part wildling, part devil, part innocent, all contradiction.

I wanted to kiss her again. Because she had perfect plump lips. Because she tasted like honey. Because she was warm and the night was cold, and I’d been in the dark for so long.

Colliding into her had been like crashing into sunshine. She made me feel warm in places that had been cold for oh, so long.

“I can’t decide if I need to shelter you, or if I should show you off.”

I stretched her and filled her and punished her pussy for being so perfect, so tight, so inexperienced

I fucked her like I’d paid for the hour.

“I’ve never watched anyone watch me like you’re watching me now.”

About the Author

With over 2.4 million books sold worldwide, Laurelin Paige is a New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestselling Author. Her international success started with her very first series, the Fixed Trilogy, which, alone, has sold over 1 million copies, and earned her the coveted #1 spot on Amazon’s bestseller list in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia, simultaneously. This title also was named in People magazine as one of the top 10 most downloaded books of 2014. She’s also been #1 overall books at the Apple Book Store with more than one title in more than one country. She’s published both independently and with MacMillan’s St. Martin’s Press and Griffin imprints as well as many other publishers around the world including Harper Collins in Germany and Hachette/Little Brown in the U.K. With her edgy, trope-flipped stories of smart women and strong men, she’s managed to secure herself among today’s romance royalty.

Paige has a Bachelor’s degree in Musical Theater and a Masters of Business Administration with a Marketing emphasis, and she credits her writing success to what she learned from both programs, though she’s also an avid learner, constantly trying to challenge her mind with new and exciting ideas and concepts. While she loves psychological thrillers and witty philosophical books and entertainment, she is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, or dreaming of Michael Fassbender. She’s also a proud member of Mensa International though she doesn’t do anything with the organization except use it as material for her bio. She is represented by Rebecca Friedman.

RELEASE DAY LAUNCH AND REVIEW: THE LAST LETTER by Rebecca Yarros

The right words can save your life.

For fans of Nicholas Sparks and Jodi Picoult… A soldier falls in love with his battle buddy’s sister through their letters and returns home from Afghanistan with a secret that could destroy their fragile relationship.

Don’t miss THE LAST LETTER by Rebecca Yarros!

Grab your copy today!

About THE LAST LETTER

Beckett,

If you’re reading this, well, you know the “last-letter” drill. You made it. I didn’t. Get off the guilt train, because I know if there were any chance you could have saved me, you would have.

I need one thing from you: Get out of the army and get to Telluride.

My little sister Ella’s raising the twins alone. She’s too independent and won’t accept help easily, but she has lost our grandmother, our parents, and now me. It’s too much for anyone to endure. It’s not fair.

And here’s the kicker: there’s something else you don’t know that’s tearing her family apart. She’s going to need help.

So if I’m gone, that means I can’t be there for Ella. I can’t help them through this. But you can. So I’m begging you, as my best friend, go take care of my sister, my family.

Please don’t make her go through it alone.

Ryan

My Review

For a letter to be the last one, there’s the implication that there were others that preceded it, and that is absolutely the case when it comes to the letters that the main characters wrote and the path that was chosen and taken based on the powerful exchange of words and the honesty woven throughout the sentences and paragraphs that filled the pages. And Rebecca Yarros uses her hero and heroine’s letters to shed light on the journey these two took apart as they weathered their respective trauma and endured more pain and suffering that any one person deserves. Every letter written mattered – each and every insight and truth that found their way onto the paper offered insight into their hearts, their minds, and their souls, because it was easier to be open and honest when the words are for someone who may know you on a deep level due to what is shared between you, but because there’s not a face to go along with the content of the letters, circumstances allow for the writing to be a cathartic act, and due to the nature of the lives that these two have had to live and struggle through, there’s no greater peace than sharing your heart and your soul with someone who doesn’t have the chance to fracture the remaining pieces of a more than fragile being…at least that’s what Ella thought…

There are a tremendous amount of layers to Ella and Beckett’s story, and the creative way that Yarros integrates the present-day moments that Ella and Beckett share with the intimate letters of the past allow readers to clearly see and understand just how embedded these two are in each other’s lives and have been so for quite some time, even when they’re thousands of miles away from one another and at least one’s identity is concealed for reasons that are explored and explained as the story continues.

Ella and Beckett are completely broken characters dealing with loss – coping in the only ways they know how – living with regret, with grief, and with overwhelming loneliness. Their pain resonates from the pages of the book; in fact, it’s so thoroughly fleshed out that pain becomes its own antagonizing and cruel character, holding on as tight as possible to these two struggling souls. Readers feel the intense emotions that the characters experience…every fracture made…every tormented thought that exists in their psyche and it’s difficult to not get lost in the maelstrom of feelings, thinking that there is no way out for these two…no way to deal with everything in a completely productive way, which means that Ella and Beckett will have to delve even further into the darkness, closing in and pressing on their hearts and their souls, before ever finding their way back to the light…before …to the hope they once had.

The Last Letter is so much more than a military romance…it’s so much more than two broken souls finding their way to one another despite the pain and grief that haunts them daily. It’s an overwhelmingly emotional journey – one realistically portrayed to convey life’s hardships…life’s cruelties…but also life’s second chances. It’s a story of lessons…a story of life…a story of loss, but ultimately, it’s a story of family…of brotherhood…of finding hope in the darkness…of realizing one’s worth. The characters’ journey becomes ours as we weather the storm with them, experiencing the highs and lows of their lives

Rebecca Yarros knows her way around military romances because she lives that life every day and has for decades, and while she may not have endured the level of loss and devastation that her characters have, it’s easy to tell from the story itself and the emotions that it evokes that Rebecca Yarros lived and breathed this book, opening herself in ways that not many authors can do, especially when it comes to devastating and traumatizing situations.

The Last Letter is hauntingly beautiful…it’s raw and resonating…it’s a story of friendship, of perseverance, of commitment, but in the simplest terms, it’s a story of love…love of self…love of family…love of a lifetime.

Excerpt

“Ella.” It was a plea to speak, to not speak. Hell, I didn’t know anymore.

“You don’t see me like that. I totally get it.” She reached for the TV remote.

“How exactly do I see you? Please, enlighten me.” I leaned forward, stealing the remote. She’d opened this box and had better well dish it.

She huffed in annoyance. “You see me as a mom. As Colt and Maisie’s mom. And of course you do, because that’s what I am. A mom with two kids.”

“Well, yeah,” I said. Her motherhood—that selfless devotion she had to her kids—was one of her most attractive attributes.

She rolled her eyes with a little sigh, and the metaphorical light bulb went off in my head.

“You don’t think I want you.”

She shot me a look that confirmed my guess and blushed the same crimson of her couch. “You know, you’re right. It’s late.” She faked a yawn. “Suuuuuuper late.”

“I want you.” Damn, it felt so good to say the words.

“Yeah, okay.” She gave me a goofy look and a thumbs-up. “Please don’t make me feel any more idiotic than I do right now.”

Yeah, enough of this bullshit.

I pounced in one smooth motion, taking her back to the couch, sliding over her as I gathered her wrists in one hand above her head and settled between her open thighs.

Home.

“Holy shit, you move fast.” There was no fear or rejection in her eyes, just surprise.

“Not in every arena,” I promised.

Her lips parted.

“Ella. I want you.”

“Beckett…you don’t have to.”

Yeah, that soft little sigh she did was going to be my undoing.

I let go of her wrists, letting my fingers trail down her arm until I had one hand weaving my fingers into the hair at the base of her scalp and the other at the curve in her waist.

“Feel this?” Then I slid forward, letting my dick stroke along the seam in her pajama pants hard enough for her to gasp at the contact. I couldn’t remember ever wanting to shred a piece of fabric so much in my life. “I’ve never wanted a woman as much as I want you.”

I moved again, and her eyes slid shut as she let loose the sweetest moan.

My dick throbbed, knowing everything I’d fantasized about for the better part of the last eight months was one decision away.

“Beckett.” Her hands found my biceps, her nails digging in.

“Don’t ever think that I don’t want you, because if things were different, I would have already been inside you. I would know exactly how you feel, and what you sound like, look like, when you come. I’ve thought about it at least a hundred different ways, and believe me, I’ve got a great imagination.”

She rocked her hips against me, and I locked my jaw to keep from giving her exactly what her body was asking for. “Ella, you have to stop.”

“Why?” she asked, her lips dangerously close to mine. “What do you mean if things were different?” Her eyes flew wide. “Is this because I have kids?”

“What? No. Of course not. It’s because you’re Ryan’s little sister.” Before I could do any more damage, I got the hell off her and sat back on my side of the couch.

“Because…I’m Ryan’s little sister,” she repeated, scooting so she sat upright, facing me. “And you think he’d, what? Haunt you?”

Three things: The letter. The cancer. The lie.

I repeated those in my head until I was certain I could look at her and not drag her back under me.

“Beckett?”

“When I was growing up, if I wanted something, I took it. Immediately. I had sex at fourteen with a girl in my foster home of the moment. I opened Christmas presents early if I was lucky enough to get one, and it was usually from my social worker or some charity.”

“I don’t understand.” She wrapped her arms around her knees again.

“I took it immediately because I knew if I didn’t, chances were I wouldn’t get it. It was a now-or-never kind of thing—there weren’t second chances.”

“Okay.”

“I can’t touch you, can’t talk about it, because I’m afraid I’ll act on it.”

“And why does that matter if I want you to?”

“Because I won’t get a second chance. And I’m crap with people, with relationships. I’ve never had one that lasted more than a month. Never loved a woman I’ve slept with. And chances are I’d do something to screw this up, because it’s not just my dick that wants you, Ella.”

That O popped right back onto her face, and I closed my eyes to keep from lunging across the distance and kissing her. Knowing she’d let me—that she wanted it—sent my need from a bullet to a nuclear missile.

“And when I’d screw it up, because it would happen, trust me, it would hurt Colt and Maisie, too. You’d be on your own again, because there’s no chance you’d let me hang around and help you out like Ryan asked.”

“And there it is.”

“There it is. You’re Ryan’s little sister.”

“There were only five years between us. Not so little, you know.” She reached for the remote.

“I’m well aware.”

“So if Ryan were still alive…” She shot one last look at me.

I let everything slip for a millisecond, letting her see it all in my eyes, how badly I wanted her, and not just for her body. “Everything would be different.”

“Everything?”

“Everything but the way I feel about you, which he probably would have killed me for. Where does that leave us?”

“You mean besides me being a dried-up spinster and you being honor-bound to a ghost?”

“Something like that.”

She rolled her head along the back of the couch, muttering something that sounded like a curse word under her breath. Then she sat up straight and powered on the TV with a click of her thumb. “That leaves us choosing a movie on demand. Because I’m not letting you walk out that door right now.”

“You’re not?”

“Nope. You walk out now, you might get all weird about this and not come back. Honor is a fabulous thing, but sometimes pride can be a lot stronger, especially when you convince yourself it’s for the good of the other person.”

Damn, the woman knew me.

“So movie it is,” I agreed. “Just…stay on your side of the couch.”

“I wasn’t the one who crossed the center line,” she teased with a smile that got me hard all over again.

Movie chosen, we sat and watched, both of us stealing sideways glances. There was that saying…the horse out of the barn. Yeah, the horse was out of the barn, and it wasn’t going back in. Not no way. Not no how.

That horse was running amok and screwing with my carefully constructed control.

But I didn’t complain when she moved over. Or when she pressed against my side. Nope. I lifted my arm and savored the feel of her curves, her trust. Still didn’t complain when she lay down in my arms. Hell no, I held on and memorized every second.

“This story gripped me from start to finish. The Last Letter is poignant, heartfelt and utterly consuming. I loved it!”

– Mia Sheridan, NYT Bestselling Author

“Hands down, the best book I’ve read all year.”

From New York Times Bestselling author Corinne Michaels, comes EVERMORE, a new novella in her Salvation Series, brought to you by 1,001 Dark Nights!

Be sure to grab your copy today!

About EVERMORE

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Corinne Michaels comes a new story in her Salvation series…

I was poised to become partner at my law firm even before I became secretly engaged to my boss. After being humiliated by him on my wedding day, I can’t face working for him any longer. So I quit, waving my middle finger on my way out.

Now the only things I’m poised for are unemployment and loneliness.

When an opportunity with Cole Security arises, it seems like the perfect way to run, all the way to Virginia Beach. I wasn’t expecting my childhood sweetheart to be there. I definitely wasn’t prepared that when we saw each other again, Benjamin Pryce would be so grown-up. So gorgeous. So Navy SEAL-ish.

And still the same guy who broke my heart when I was fifteen–and could do it again.

They say if you’re fooled once, shame on them. The second time, it’s on you. The third time, it’s going to be me that runs… unless he can convince me to stay forevermore.

My Review

I can’t say that I blame Gretchen for wanting to start over in a new place, away from the humiliating acts that were done to her. She’s been played for a fool more times than she can count, and she refuses to make the same mistakes…she refuses to be anymore broken than she is. Her move to Virginia Beach is supposed to be cathartic, allowing her a chance to heal…to reinvent herself…to be the version of herself that she’s always wanted to be. But what it’s not supposed to be is a traumatic trip down memory lane, too bad that’s exactly what happens when she comes face to face with her best in the form of an even more swoon worthy Benjamin Pryce.

Evermore – that’s what happily ever afters are supposed to be, but for Gretchen, that concept can’t resonate with her because she’s been let down by too many people and it’s as if she’s given up hope of finding the one person who is just for her, so she’s caught extremely off-guard when her past filters into her present in the form of a handsome alpha male who has his own healing to do.

Even though I feel like there are more things to know about Ben in order to truly understand him…information that can’t be elaborated on when the story is a novella…I have to say that he just might be one of my favorite Corinne Michaels’ heroes. Of course he has his issues and he’s done things in his past that he regrets but he is quite the sexy wooer when it comes to the one girl he has never forgotten.

The cast of characters in Michaels’ Salvation series is an amazing blend of alpha males and sassy females who fight for what they want despite their fractured parts. This is a group of fiercely loyal friends who have one another’s back and work together to protect and serve in whatever capacity is needed.

Gretchen and Ben’s story is a quick read but that’s not necessarily due to its shorten length; it has more to do with the fact that it’s easy to become captivated by the hero and heroine’s second chance to be together in a way that they both deserve and can thrive from. The chemistry and attraction between them as well as the way they work to heal themselves and one another is exactly why these two just might get their ‘forevermore.’

“What do you mean you’re not coming?” I scream into the receiver at my what-should-be husband.

“I can’t marry you,” Harold tells me.

My eyes fill with angry tears. “You decided this now?” I shriek.

It’s my wedding day.

Well, it was supposed to be. Harold—which is the worst name in existence when you’re in the throes of passion—apparently has decided it won’t be.

An hour late, I might add. I’m here, at the church, in my nine-thousand-dollar wedding dress that I saved for. Without a groom.

I’m going to kill him.

My voice drops eerily soft. “Whatever the hell the issue is, we can deal with it tomorrow, Harold. You can’t do this to me. You get your ass to this church and you marry me.”

He sighs. “I can’t do it. I can’t, Gretchen. I had an epiphany last night.”

An epiphany? How rich. “Was it that you’re a dickhead who was going to destroy the woman who stood by you the last seven-fucking-years?”

“I’m saving you.”

Now I’ve heard it all. “Saving me, my ass!” I scream. “You will not do this to me. You won’t make me a jilted bride! I won’t let you.” My two best friends, Catherine and Ashton, share a look as they stand in their rose gold colored bridesmaids dresses.

Harold goes silent and then I hear someone in the back. “It’s for the better. We never should’ve done this. You’re my associate at the firm and if we do this, it will destroy both of our careers.”

A tear falls down. I’m so angry. I’m so betrayed by him. Seven years we’ve been sneaking around. I was his “Secret Slut” as I called myself. At first it was exciting. The sneaking around, late-night office romps, the little touches we’d share knowing that later we wouldn’t have to slow down.

Then it became impossible. I wanted to go to him when a case went bad, but I couldn’t because he was my boss. Gossip in the office became much more than harmless chatter, so we pulled back even more.

Finally, two months ago, he’d had enough of me complaining and threatening to end things. He proposed and said he wanted to marry me immediately. That if we were married, I could take equal part in the firm and finally stop having to hide our relationship.

My chest rises and falls because now, there’s no going back. People know. People are here to witness this, and now I’ll be the “left-at-the-alter lawyer.”

Owen Shaw and his “brothers” lost everything, their entire existence erased. Science had robbed he and all the Lost Boys of their memories and their past, but not their future. Rebecca Walsh might be the key to achieving both. Owen has been studying her closely, living in her building, and he cannot resolve how such a beautiful, giving woman could have helped design the evil process that destroyed his past.

Owen opens her eyes to a whole new world, filled with joy, laughter, and possibly love.

My Review

The Lost Boys may have forgotten who they are, no longer able to rely on their memories to remind them, and they may also be struggling to find their new place in the world amidst being hunted for the very reason that their minds are blank, but what remains clear to them and to readers of the series is that they will stop at nothing to unravel all the clues that led them to their uncertain fate as well as their desire to protect those who have come to mean everything to them, no matter the cost.

In book two of Blake’s Forgotten series, readers get to know another alpha male who has lost his way due to others’ malicious intentions. Owen Shaw, the sexy Scotsman, is hellbent on finding out what happened to him and his ‘brothers’ and the means he’s willing to use to get that information is limitless and on this new mission is target is the very woman who he instantly is drawn to and feels a connection with for the first time since losing every single shred of who he was.

Dr. Rebecca Walsh has been singularly focused on studying debilitating diseases since she lost her mother to Alzheimer’s, which leaves her little time for anything else, especially a personal life, but with nothing to show for her life but her work, even though she doesn’t want to admit it, her loneliness is overwhelming.

It’s interesting that the very science/methods that led to the Lost Boys losing all recollections of their lives at the hands of Dr. MacDonald are similar to the work that Dr. Walsh is consumed by, which is why it’s believed that she may have information about what happened to the Lost Boys.

So to say that there’s a conflict of interest when it comes to the attraction Owen feels towards the good doctor would be an understatement, but all things are definitely not what they seem and as Owen and Dr. Walsh explore their feelings for each other perhaps everything they’ve both lost will be found in new and life saving ways.

The suspense and action scenes involved in Lost and Found, as well as all of Blake’s other sexy and suspenseful stories, are written in a way that allows readers to visualize the play-by-play, picturing every act that’s taken, every risk that they choose to confront head on. Because the description and the showing instead of telling of the plot line provides every opportunity to understand every detailed event and the powerful feelings associated with the heart stopping and heart wrenching incidences the characters must endure.

Lexi Blake definitely knows how to create romantic suspense, which makes sense since that’s been one of her go-to romance genres since I’ve been reading her stories. But what I love most about Blake’s books is the fact that within her numerous series, no two tales are alike…each one is crafted in its own originality, and while the overarching conflict is dispersed amidst the pages of the entire collection of books, their separate storylines and complex characters offer readers everything they want and need from Blake’s thrilling and scorching reads.

“Becca.” Owen’s voice was low. “Concentrate on me, on our conversation. You’ve done incredibly well. You’ve been able to hold it off, but this has gone on far longer than you ever should have been expected to handle it. This elevator is tight. I feel it, too, but we can hold off the anxiety together.”

She doubted very much the man in front of her was anxious. He looked solid, like the kind of man who took whatever came his way and simply dealt with it. He wouldn’t have needed two freaking years to figure out what he wanted. He would have signed his divorce papers and moved on, not hiding in his work.

It struck her forcibly that she might never have met a man like Owen Shaw. Her childhood had been fairly sheltered. She’d constantly been surrounded by intellectuals, men and women who were far more concerned with their work than anything else.

The ground beneath her shifted and the elevator dropped what felt like ten feet, but she knew in her head it was mere inches. Her heart rate tripled, and she grabbed on to the closest thing she could—him.

His arms went around her, holding her up, and she heard it. He was so tall that her head naturally rested on his chest, and she could hear his heart beating in rapid time.

He was nervous.

The phone rang and Owen cursed, reaching out to grab it. The shaft was so small, he didn’t have to let her go to grasp it.

“What the bloody hell is happening, Colin?”

She could hear his voice over the line. “Sorry. So sorry. We had to lower the shaft the tiniest bit. I should have warned you. It’s not going to fall. Just needed to reposition to get to the problem. Not long now. Another half an hour or so and I’ll have you right out of there.”

“If you do that again, do you know what I’m going to do to you, Colin?”

There was a pause over the line and she could practically hear Colin’s gulp. “Write my father a tersely worded letter of complaint?”

“No, I’m going to pull your heart out through your throat and then I’ll shove it back up your arse.”

“You sound very much like Liam Neeson in that movie.”

“Liam Neeson is Irish. I’m a Scot. I assure you what I’ll do to you will make you run into Liam Neeson’s arms and beg him to save you.” He reached back and hung up the phone with a resounding clang.

His arm went back around her. “It’s going to be all right. They’ll move faster now. So you’ve taken a sabbatical from men.”

She breathed him in, loving how he smelled. Were men supposed to smell so good?

She could feel herself relax as he held her. She’d known him for three hours. She shouldn’t let him hold her like this.

And why the fuck not? Because it wasn’t smart? Because he might think she wanted something she shouldn’t?

She was human. Why shouldn’t she want him? Because society told her that good girls didn’t make out with guys they’d just met in an elevator?

Society sucked, and she wasn’t a good girl. When her husband had tried to put his name on her work, she’d told him to fuck off and write his own paper. When he’d cheated on her, she’d walked away.

She was single.

God, was he single?

She stepped back.

“What’s wrong?” Owen asked.

“Do you have a girlfriend?”

His lips curled up in the sweetest grin, as though he knew exactly why she was asking that question. “No, love. I don’t have a girlfriend and I don’t have a wife.”

He was single. She was single.

The moment lengthened between them.

He stepped back. “I’m sorry. I’m coming on way too strong.”

He wasn’t. He’d been gentlemanly, friendly. Up until the last couple of moments, he hadn’t put a hand on her or leered. She could feel his attraction. It was there in the warm way he looked at her, in the set of his shoulders, relaxed earlier and tense now that he’d touched her. He was thinking about the same thing she was.

“I’m very nervous, Owen. My logical mind knows that it’s far more likely for me to die getting hit by lightning than in an elevator, even one that’s stuck.” Unfortunately, her logical mind was slowly losing control of her dumbass lizard brain.

“Will talking help?” Owen asked. “Because I’m willing to do that. Or whatever you need to take your mind off things.”

There was a wealth of promise in those words. Dirty and sweet at the same time. They’d shared her wine, passing it back and forth between them, her lips touching the same place his had been moments before. When she’d drank after him, she’d thought about kissing him.

It had been too long. Two years was way too long to go without sex.

They had a half an hour or so. At least that’s what Colin—who might be murdered soon by Owen Shaw—said. She even thought his name was sexy.

What exactly would it hurt if she did kiss him? If she touched him and let him touch her? Hell, what would it hurt if she fucked him? They were both single, both a little needy. They had some time to kill. They’d done everything else.

“I would like to kiss you.” If he didn’t want her to, he could say no and they could find something else to do. She wasn’t going to be embarrassed because some guy didn’t want her. Some stunningly gorgeous guy. Some really funny, sexy guy. After all, she wouldn’t see him after this. She’d never seen him before. He’d told her he was moving in, but she went into work early and came home late. He was a bodyguard, so he likely worked odd hours and traveled a lot.

He was safe. She could open that door, enjoy herself, and then close it again. Owen Shaw could be her first really good memory in a long time, the start of many because it was time to get serious about finding some joy and balance in her life.

But only if he wanted some joy, too.

He moved back, placing his back against the elevator wall, the sweetest smile lighting up his face. “You have no idea how much I want you to kiss me. I’m right here, love. Do your worst.”

He was letting her make the first move. And probably the second. And the third. He was obviously a careful man. It would be easier if he took over, but he was right. This needed to be her choice, and she had to make the move.

She’d been the girl who’d told her parents at the age of five that kindergarten was boring and she wanted to move through the grades until she found something challenging. When they’d told her they wanted her to slow down and enjoy her childhood, she’d gone on strike until the teachers at her school begged her parents to let them move her up.

She was the girl who’d put it all on hold to take care of her mother, too.

She wasn’t the girl who didn’t take what she wanted, and she wanted Owen Shaw.

“It’s been a long time since I did this.” But her body was already heating up. Her body remembered. Her marriage might have sucked, but the sex had been fairly good. It had been the reason she’d married him. She’d gotten used to regular, good sex.

She’d get used to it again, just on her terms this time.

“Somehow, I think you’ll remember,” he said. “You play all you like. Stop when you want to.”

She’d been right about him. He was a careful man. “And if I don’t want to stop?”

“Then you should be happy I’m a man who believes in being prepared.”
