COVER REVEAL AND GIVEAWAY: BENNETT MAFIA by TIJAN

Blurb

There were always whispers about my roommate at Hillcrest Academy.

The wealthiest of the wealthy sent their kids to our boarding school, and Brooke Bennett had been at the top, though I never quite knew why. She was fun and outgoing, but she kept quiet about her family. The only things she showed me were photographs of her brothers.

I became fascinated with her second-oldest brother. Kai Bennett.

He was the most of them all. Smoldering. Hypnotic. Alluring.

Kai had eyes that pulled me in and a face that haunted my dreams.

Then I met him.

He came to our school with their father, and that’s when I learned what kind of family Brooke came from. They were mafia, and Brooke’s oldest brother was dead. Her father said accident, but Brooke said murder.

Three months later, her father died, and Kai became the head of the Bennett Family. Brooke left Hillcrest for good, and that was the last time I saw her.

Fourteen years later, I’m staring at her face on the television. Brooke is missing.

Two days later, Kai Bennett kidnaps me.

It’s out March 4th!

“I felt his pulse too. It was as fast as mine.

“You may hate me. You may loathe me.” His hand slid back from my neck and moved down agonizingly slowly, between my breasts to my stomach.

I gasped, and he slid his hand under my pajama shorts until they rested over my clit. I surged upward at his touch, my head falling back, everything in me starting to tremble.

One of his fingers dipped inside of me. “But you goddamn want me.” And with that, a second finger joined his first and he took hold of my tank, his mouth slamming down on mine.

COVER REVEAL: SHOULDN’T HAVE YOU by Carrie Ann Ryan

Available May 21st, 2019

About SHOULDN’T HAVE YOU

I’ve been many things in my life: daughter, friend, student, lover, wife…and now, widow. Getting past those labels and finding who I could be without them was the hardest thing I’ve ever done.

Then I became friends with Brendon Connolly.

Every time I look at him, I see a past, I see a present, and I’m afraid if I look too hard, I’ll see a future.

~~~
I’ve known Harmony Wynham since before she got married. Before she lost everything. I didn’t know that one day she wouldn’t be just my friend but the woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with.
Only I don’t think that can happen.
Not when every time she looks at me, she sees what she lost, and I can only see what I can’t overcome.
I love her, even though I shouldn’t. Somehow, we need to find a balance.
Because if we don’t, walking away will be the hardest thing I’ve ever done—even if it’s the only thing I should do.
About BREAKING WITHOUT YOU
From NYT bestselling author Carrie Ann Ryan, comes a brand new series where second chances don’t come often, and overcoming an unexpected loss means breaking everything you knew.
I fell for Cameron Connolly at the wrong time. And when he left, I thought my life was over. But then, after the worst happened, I truly understood what that phrase meant. Now, he’s not ready for a second chance, and I’m not offering one. Though given that our families have been forced together after losing one of our own, I know there’s no turning back. Not this time. Not again. Not when it comes to Cameron.
~~
I never wanted to hurt Violet Knight, but there were reasons I had to leave all those years ago—not that she’d believe me if I told her what they were. I not only left her, I also left my foster brothers. Honestly, I didn’t want to come back to Denver to help run my father’s failing brewery. But when it comes to my brothers, I know I’ll find a way to make it work. Perhaps I’ll even earn Violet’s forgiveness and face the connection we both thought long forgotten in the process. Because I wanted her then, but now I know I need her. I just hope she needs me.
Assistant District Attorney Alec Pierce wants a future with the sexy, tough-talking biker who came to his rescue six months ago. But when evidence capable of destroying his future comes to light, Alec sets a plan in motion to keep the man he loves from a district attorney bent on vengeance.
Will Alec’s efforts pay off or will he destroy them both in the process?
As a Disciples of Havoc member, Keyes Dixon rides the line between society’s moral code and that of his brothers. He straddles two worlds… One owns him and the other seduces him with the promise of a future. But when a rush to judgment has him swerving to miss the roadblocks suddenly in his lane, he’ll have to choose between the club that demands his loyalty and the gorgeous assistant district attorney who deserves his commitment.
Can Keyes escape his circumstances to take a chance on a future he wants?
Six months into what started as a one-night stand, both men must navigate their developing feelings as they remain bound by differing oaths that threaten to drive them apart. Not only does their future hang in the balance of opposing forces, but an unexpected strike of the gavel could send them on a collision course neither is prepared for.
Will havoc continue to determine their lives or is their love strong enough to bring order?
They came from two different worlds.
Fuck. Keyes’s eyes closed as the illusion that they’d somehow found their balance began to shatter. The pain in his chest grew, hurting on a level he couldn’t quite absorb, and that said a lot since his parents had really done a number on him as a kid.
He had seen enough about the world to know words like I love you were a conditional misconception, something said by people who didn’t understand what life was about. Keyes was never going to be good enough for Alec’s world, and at some point, Alec would get tired of isolating himself inside this house. Keyes couldn’t even imagine a time they could ever go out in public together. If for some unseen reason that time came, what the fuck would they do?
If the situation wasn’t so damned dire, he’d laugh at the mental image of Alec at a club BBQ. Club whores hanging out with Alec Peirce… What a fucking joke. His bothers would never understand whatever this was between him and the attorney.
Resentment and anger slithered up his spine and coiled around his heart. Fuck, if he wasn’t so much more comfortable with those emotions.
Nothing had changed between them. They were a good time, nothing more. Fuck his heart’s vehement denial. Where his heart and his head completely agreed, there was no way a good guy like Alec would continue to love him if he ever found out the truth of everything Keyes had done in his life. Hell, he’d been on a drug run less than a week ago. Alec wouldn’t understand why he did the things he had.
No matter what happened right now, their end didn’t change. They didn’t fit no matter how much he wished they did. White hot pain lanced through the useless organ in his chest. It hurt so fucking bad to think of Alec leaving him.
“Babe, your heart’s pounding,” Alec murmured, laying a warm hand dead center of his chest. Whatever Alec felt caused him to lift his head and open his eyes wider. “What’s going on? Are you okay?”
This was too much. How could he have let hope, of all things, cloud his reality? Hope and fairytales went hand in hand, both big fucking wastes of mind-space. He wanted to cry, which pissed him off even more. Thank God for the burst of anger, because now the bullshit pain wasn’t the only thing driving him. Keyes bucked his body out from underneath Alec’s and flipped the covers off, sending his phone flying. He literally jumped out of bed, making a beeline for his jeans draped over the bedroom chair. He shoved his feet in the legs of his jeans, forgoing his underwear. He needed out of this house. He couldn’t fucking breathe. He needed to be back in his world, back to what he knew, and never venture out again.
Luckily, Alec had removed his jeans in such a way that his keys, wallet, and belt were still in place. Keyes shoved his dick inside, zipping himself up as the memory of the unspoken need darkening Alec’s eyes when he’d arrived last night sent his rage skyrocketing. He didn’t get the jeans much more than zipped when he dropped down in the chair and started to shove his sockless feet inside his dirty work boots.
“What’s happened, Key?” Alec asked, his tone even but on the controlled edge of panic. Keyes looked up to catch Alec pulling on his athletic shorts which spoke volumes about the gravity of the situation.
Best Selling Author Kindle Alexander is an innovative writer, and a genre-crosser who writes classic fantasy, romance, suspense, and erotica in both the male/male and male/female genres. It’s always a surprise to see what’s coming next!
I live in the suburbs of Dallas where it’s true, the only thing bigger than an over active imagination, may be women’s hair!
Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.
Her name was Kindle. Honest to goodness – it was her name and she died a few weeks before Amazon released their brand new Kindle ereader. She had no idea it was coming out and she would have finally gotten her name on something! Try finding a ruler with the name Kindle on it.. It never happened.
Through the course of that crippling event I was lucky enough to begin to write with a dear friend in the fan fiction world of Facebook. She got me through those dark days with her unwavering support and friendship. There wasn’t a time she wasn’t there for me. Sometimes together and sometimes by myself, we built a world where Kindle lives and stands for peace, love and harmony. It’s its own kind of support group. I know without question I wouldn’t be here today without her.
COVER REVEAL: BABY MINE and BABY YOURS by Kennedy Fox
I saw her first.
Blonde. Gorgeous. Feisty.
I was smitten.
But it didn’t matter because she chose him and he was my best friend and roommate. I’d never be able to compete with that, so I pushed her away instead. It was easy when she lived hours away, and I didn’t have to see her every day, but then she moved in with us.
Now, I’m screwed.
To her singing in the shower every morning, dancing in the kitchen while she makes coffee, and doing yoga in our living room, I can’t stop thinking about her in all the wrong ways. She’s not mine and never will be, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to push her against a wall and claim her mouth.
She’s constantly on me for making messes, bringing chicks home every weekend, and being a smartass when their PDA gets on my nerves. Considering neither of them know how I feel, it’s not fair for the way I act toward them. I should move out so I can get over her for good; however, the selfish part of me can’t let go.
But then the unthinkable happens…
When my best friend dies in a motorcycle accident, the two of us are left to grieve our loss together. Instead of pushing her away, I pull her closer.
Just as we come to terms with our new reality, she finds out she’s pregnant with his baby.
And I’m left to make the hardest decision of my life…
*BABY MINE is an angsty, emotional, slow-burn romance wrapped up in a heartbreakingly delicious love story. It’s book 1 in the Hunter & Lennon duet and must be read first.*
COVER REVEAL: MAKE ME YOURS by Tia Louise
He’s a billionaire single dad who needs help.
She’s a sassy single gal who needs work.
Live-in nanny? What could go wrong?
Remington Key: I left the Navy, scored a billion in tech, got married, and had a baby. I did everything by the book. Happily ever after, right?
Fast-forward four years, and I’m alone, raising my daughter, caring for my mother-in-law, and trying to keep my stuff together. How did this happen?
I was clearly drunk the night I offered a gorgeous girl in a bar $500 a day to be my live-in nanny. Or maybe it was my dick talking.
So what if I’ve been alone since forever? I’m focused on launching my new business, not bedding the sexy siren who sleeps down the hall.
At least that’s what I keep reminding myself…
Ruby Banks: Remington Key is distant, brooding, and ridiculously sexy. And when he scoops up his adorable four-year-old daughter Lillie and blows raspberries on her tummy while she squeals with delight, my ovaries literally explode.
Bumping into him at our local pub that night slightly drunk and overly frustrated was a total accident. He needed help, and it was the Christian thing to help a man in need. Right?
Only, Remington Key does not make me feel very Christ-like… No matter how committed I am to being a responsible employee.
(A small-town STAND-ALONE CONTEMPORARY Romantic Comedy. This is Ruby and Remi’s hilariously adorable love story.)
My Review
As soon as Kristen Proby introduced her readers to Max Hull and Willa Monroe, I wanted to know everything about their lives, and I needed to understand what happened to turn these childhood sweethearts into enemies. It’s clear that these two characters share a long history, but without their perspectives, the only thing I could ascertain is that whatever occurred to send them in opposite directions was something that redefined their lives, fracturing any connection they once shared, and ultimately destroying any chance these two had at rebuilding a love that was lost when Max left Cunningham Falls to pursue his dreams.
In Waiting for Willa, Proby finally tells Max and Willa’s story – their past, their present, and hopefully, their future. As soon as readers are made aware of what went down between them at two extremely pivotal times in their lives, everything becomes clear…all the pieces come together to illustrate why Willa is a single mom of an 8 year old and why Max has kept his distance from not only Willa but his hometown as well – the place where his family lives and their roots are planted.
I can’t imagine the depth of Willa’s pain and grief due to a series of events that she had no control over. But somehow, she persevered, and she’s finally at a place to forgive and move forward, despite how difficult it has been for her. Proby does a fantastic job of illustrating who Willa is at her core and how deeply she loves and how willingly she sacrifices for those who mean everything to her. I understand her hesitancy when Max comes back to Cunningham Falls; stirring up the past causes overwhelming emotions, but it’s more than clear as Willa and Max spend more and more time together, just how close these two once were and how strong their feelings were for each other. They have a ease with each other…a bond that was built on a foundation of love and commitment and while there a fair amount of cracks in that foundation, the chasms could be repaired, at the right time and with the right amount of patience and hope.
It’s amazing all that Max has accomplished at his age; he’s extremely intelligent and hard working, which are two qualities that will not only allow him to continue to grow professionally but will also give him a second chance to make things right with the love of his life, the one girl who got away – Willa.
I loved so many things about this story – the camaraderie among previous main characters and Willa and Max; the insight into past heroes and heroines’ happily-right-nows; Willa and Max’s backstory; Max’s relationship with Willa’s son, Alex. All plot lines that occur in Waiting for Willa merge together so flawlessly and create such a vivid and complex tale that is romantic, emotional, and heartfelt. Because Proby constructs multifaceted characters and provides a comprehensive and concrete look into their lives, nothing feels up in the air at the end because all of the loose ends have been explored and brought full circle.
Kristen Proby’s Big Sky’s series has all of the qualities that I’ve come to love about contemporary romance, and because Cunningham Falls is a small community, it’s so easy to feel like a part of their family, hoping each and every one of them find the love and hope they need.
About Kristen
Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.
During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.
Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.
Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.
It’s not you. It’s me.
No, seriously. It is me. Not only does my name literally mean “unfortunate,” but that’s the story of my life.
Everything I touch turns to cr*p. An apartment fire—that I swear I was not responsible for—means I’m living back at home with my s*x-mad parents. Yay, me!
Which is why I need my new job as personal assistant to Cameron Reid to get back on my feet. Three months in this job and I can move back out and, hopefully, remember to turn off my flat iron once in a while.
Ahem.
On paper, my job is easy. Make coffee. Book appointments. Keep everything in order.
Until I walk in on my boss, half-naked, wearing nothing but the kind of tiny white towel that dreams are made of.
Now, nothing is easy—except our mutual attraction. But he’s my boss, and you know what they say about mixing work and pleasure: unless you do p*rn, it’s just not worth it.
Or is it?
Excerpt
I took my coffee from the counter and scanned the room for an empty table. There wasn’t one, which killed my chances of wasting more time before I went home.
With a sigh, I checked my phone for the time and headed for the door. I was going to end up at home earlier than I’d planned, and I needed to check with my mom to make sure there wasn’t anything kinky happening somewhere in the house.
I’d considered bleaching my eyes enough in the last few weeks, thank you.
I was fairly sure I was safe because my grandfather and great aunt were coming to stay to celebrate Grandpa’s eightieth birthday. It was still a miracle my exhibitionist mother shared DNA with either of them. Unlike her, they were reserved, polite, and didn’t flash their flesh in the hopes of getting out of a speeding ticket.
Really, it was no wonder I was a walking disaster.
I pulled up my messages and clicked on my mom’s name. My thumb was poised to type the burning question of whether or not it was safe to come home when I glanced up.
And saw the car screeching to a stop, mere inches from me.
I screamed and stepped back. My heel caught on the curb, sending me toppling backward, and both my coffee and phone went flying. My cup slammed against the sidewalk, splattering hot liquid everywhere right as I managed to save my phone from certain death by concrete.
My heart was beating so fast it should have exploded, and adrenaline raced through my veins. I gripped my phone against me so tightly that the edges pressed painfully into my skin.
Oh my God.
I’d just almost died.
Maybe slightly dramatic, but I probably wasn’t far wrong. I didn’t even know I’d stepped into the road. When had that happened? Had I really been in that deep into my own little world that I hadn’t even checked for traffic?
Dear God.
How was I still alive?
The back door to the sleek, black car that somehow hadn’t run me over swung open. From my vantage position on the sidewalk, the first thing I saw was a pair of shiny, black shoes attached to legs wearing perfectly-pressed, light gray dress pants.
I dragged my gaze up from the feet, over the door of the perfectly clean car, and stared at the most beautiful man known to humankind.
Thick, dark, wavy hair covered his head, curling over his ears. Lashes the same dark shade of brown framed impossibly bright-blue eyes that regarded me with a mixture of shock and concern, and my ovaries about exploded when he rubbed a large hand over full pink lips and a stubbled, strong jaw.
“Miss—I’m so sorry. Are you okay?”
Scrambling to my feet as he approached me, I tugged down the leg of my pants and grabbed my pursed. “Yes. I mean—it was my fault. I wasn’t paying attention. I’m sorry.”
He let go of the car door, showing broad shoulders and just how well that gray suit was tailored to him, and picked up my coffee cup. “All the same, I think we can share blame. Are you sure you’re not hurt?”
Just my dignity, and by this point, I was running low on it anyway.
I shifted, taking a step back. “I’m fine, really. Thank you.”
“Can I replace your coffee? Give you a ride anyway to apologize?” His expression was so earnest, his concern so genuine that I almost gave in.
Almost.
I had almost walked into the front of his car, then proceeded to embarrass myself in front of everyone on the street.
“No, no, it’s fine. I’m not far from home.” I clutched my phone and purse straps a little harder. “Again, thank you, but I should be going.”
He nodded as if he understood. “Uh, miss? Did you drop something there?”
My eyes followed the direction Mr. Dreamboat was pointing. On the side of the road, tucked against the curb, was a pair of white, cotton panties with flamingos on them.
My white, cotton panties with flamingos on them.
Swallowing, I met his bright eyes and shook my head. Dear God, please don’t let me blush. “No. I’ve never seen them before.” I backed up a little more. “Thank you for not running me over.”
Mr. Dreamboat grinned, his eyes brightening with his smile. “I’d never be able to forgive myself if I’d been responsible for running over someone as beautiful as you.” He glanced toward my panties, then winked at me.
There was no doubting that I was blushing this time around.
You could fry eggs on my cheeks.
So I did the only thing any self-respecting, twenty-five-year-old woman who’d just almost been run over, tripped, and dropped her dirty panties could do.
I ran.
But only like two blocks, because I was in heels, and I had the fitness levels of a hippo.
Then I grabbed a cab.
About Jodi
Jodi Ellen Malpas wrote her debut series, The This Man Trilogy, in secret, worried about what people might think if they knew what her imagination was capable of. She was shocked herself. But she finally found the courage to unleash her creative streak and self-published THIS MAN – the first book of the This Man Trilogy – in October 2012. She took a chance on the story with a hero who soon became one of modern day fictions most prolific alpha male characters. Jesse Ward – also affectionately known as The Lord of The Manor, sparked incredible reactions from women across the globe and catapulted Jodi into the world of romance.
She was soon signed by Grand Central Publishing, part of the Hachette Book Group, and the third book of the trilogy, This Man Confessed, took Jodi to the top of the bestsellers lists, earning her the proud title of #1 New York Times Bestselling Author. This Man has since been voted one of the top romance novels of all time. With so much love and enthusiasm for her words, Jodi suddenly wasn’t afraid of her imagination anymore and has since let it run riot. Writing powerful love stories and creating addictive characters has become her passion—a passion she now shares with her devoted readers.
Jodi was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, England, where she lives with her real-life man, her boys, and a beagle. She is a self-professed daydreamer, a Converse and mojito addict, and has a terrible weak spot for alpha males. Her work is now published in more than twenty-five languages across the world.
It’s time to meet the Captain…
Are you ready for Neverland’s next hero?
James “Captain” Hook
He’s tortured, broody, a complete badass, and of course totally SEXY (see drool-worthy picture below of character inspiration Mariano Divaio). He’s the captain of the criminal crew, the Pirates. He and Peter have a complex relationship. Peter considers Hook part of his “family” since they all grew up together at the School for Lost Boys of Neverland, but Hook prefers to hold himself apart.
Below is an excerpt from a scene in Pan that introduces Hook to us as an adult.
Unfortunately, he’s not having the best night, but Peter is determined not to let him make it worse.
An Excerpt from Pan: Meet Hook
PETER
I fuse our mouths together again, our tongues tangling and bodies pressing in all the right places, when I hear three sharp knocks on my door.
“Go away!”
“Peter, you need to come outside, now.”
Through labored breaths, Wendy asks, “Is that Tink?”
I nod. “Get someone else to handle it, Tink. I’m a little busy right now.”
She snorts so loud I can hear it through the door. “Yeah, I just bet you are. But the cops are here arresting Starkey, and Hook is going apeshit. You’re the only one he’ll listen to, Peter.”
I grit my teeth. “Fuuuu—ugh.”
Wendy giggles. “Just say it.”
Scowling at her, I say, “Don’t tempt me, woman. I have to go down there, but you can stay up here if you want.” I reluctantly push myself up from the bed and pull on a T-shirt.
“No, I’ll go with you.” My cock screams at the unfairness as I watch her get up and set herself to rights again. Smoothing her hair back into place, she says, “I think maybe this is a good thing. We probably shouldn’t jump into…um, whatever…right away. You know?”
I do know, but I don’t agree. I think we should absolutely jump into anything and everything. But telling her that isn’t going to do much but scare her away, and the only place I want Wendy Darling is here.
“Yeah, you’re probably right,” I choke out with a smile, then open my bedroom door to a seething sprite on the other side.
Wendy offers a warm smile. “Hi Tin—”
“Took you long enough, jackass,” she tosses out at me before spinning on her heel and jogging down the steps.
“Tink, watch your lang—”
“Bite me, Pan!”
I scowl, not liking how rude Tink’s being to Wendy, but then again, I suppose that’s nothing new. Wendy, however, is laughing behind her hand, her blues eyes twinkling with amusement. “You’ve been upgraded from ‘silly’ to ‘jack’, I see.”
“Still an ass, though,” I say wryly. “Come on, let’s go wrangle some Pirates.”
“Sounds like an adventure.”
It does sound like one, but when we make it out of the house, reality isn’t quite as charming. Three squad cars are parked, their cherries spinning and lighting up the whole front half of the property. My room faces the back of the house, or I would’ve seen them as soon as they pulled up. The rest of the scene is one big shit show.
Two cops are holding Starkey down on the front of a cruiser as he struggles in his cuffs. Silas and Nick are doing their best to hold back Hook, who’s shouting obscenities at the cops, barricading him from getting to his friend and threatening to throw cuffs on him too.
“Stay on the porch,” I tell Wendy, not wanting her to get in harm’s way.
I give her a quick kiss and head down the steps. Before I even reach him, Hook wrests himself from the boys’ grip. With a beastly growl, he lunges forward and cold-cocks one of the officers right in the face, blowing his nose wide open. The cop doubles over, screaming in pain as blood gushes through his fingers.
I wrap my arms around Hook’s upper body and drag him to the bottom of the porch where I can pin him against the wooden railing. “Are you fucking insane? You want them to haul your ass away for assaulting a LEO?”
“Yeah, I do. They’re arresting him on bullshit charges. If they’re taking people in for no goddamn reason, they might as well take me, too, but they won’t.”
Hook’s eyes are wild as he pushes against the forearm I have across his chest. If his face is any indication, someone had already gotten a couple of hits in before the boys tried to restrain him. Looking over my shoulder, I notice one of the other cops favoring his right hand with swollen knuckles like he’d just used someone’s face as a punching bag.
And what Hook said doesn’t make sense, now that I think about it. Why isn’t he getting arrested? I just watched him assault a police officer to the point he’ll probably have to have his nose reset, and none of them are making a move to cuff his ass. It doesn’t make sense.
I look back at Hook, and suddenly I can see what others probably can’t. James is worried. Like, really fucking worried. For Starkey? But why? I’m pretty sure every other guy on Hook’s crew has done time, including Hook, and he’s never acted like this.
“What’s really going on here, man?” There’s a war going on behind those arctic blue eyes as he debates how much to tell me, or whether to tell me anything at all. And just when I think he might actually reach out for once in his miserable life, I see the iron gates slam shut.
“Starkey’s never been on the inside before.”
“Why so interested in Starkey’s well-being? I mean, other than the fact that he’s been one of your loyal lapdogs from the time we were kids. Smee did time. I don’t remember you getting all bent out of shape then.”
“Starkey’s too damn soft,” he says gruffly. “He’ll get eaten alive unless I’m there to protect him.”
“What’re they charging him with?”
“I don’t know, because they won’t tell me!” Hook’s voice goes from normal to shouting so loud the veins in his neck pop out, and he’s pushing on me to get free again.
One of the cops behind me calls out, “We told the kid and that’s all that matters.”
“Bullshit! Only thing you told me was my rights.”
Chancing a look over my shoulder, I see the two officers on Starkey yank him up from the hood and drag him to the back door.
“Captain!” he screams. “I didn’t do nothin’, I swear. I kept my nose clean like you said. You gotta believe me. I didn’t do nothin’!”
“I know. I’m gonna get you outta there. Keep your head down and don’t ask for trouble, you hear me?”
There’s a helplessness in Hook’s eyes and a sliver of fear shaking his voice that he’s trying desperately to mask with his signature gruffness. But I see his truth, and I’m more than shocked. I’m floored.
He claims Starkey has no more of a place in his life than any other member of his crew.
But he’s fucking lying.
He cares about that kid. He might even love him, in his own way. And that tells me everything I need to know about this situation. For now, anyway. Hook might not want to admit it, but on some level, buried way deep down, he’s my friend. He’s a Lost Boy. Family.
So I’m going to do everything I can to help him. Even if all it means is helping him cope with Starkey doing time until he gets out. Because let’s face it, it’s not like I have any connections with the law, so there’s probably not a whole helluva lot I can do.
Hook’s shoulders sag with defeat as the cops drive off with their alleged criminal, and I can finally release my hold on him. “I’m sorry, Hook, but you getting arrested with him wouldn’t have helped him any.”
Already his eye is starting to swell and the dried blood trailing from his lip into his beard cracks with his humorless laugh. “You’re so fucking naive, Pan. It’s a good thing you never left Neverland. The real world would swallow you up and spit you back out.”
I have no idea what he means by that, but he doesn’t give me a chance to think about it before he stalks off toward his motorcycle, the rest of his crew falling into line behind him.
“You’re welcome, by the way!”
His only response is flipping me off, which I’ve come to think of as Hook’s version of a high-five, so I return the lewd gesture, even if he doesn’t see it.
“Are you okay?” Wendy comes up beside me and rests a hand on my arm. “That was really intense. I can’t believe they didn’t arrest him for assault.”
“Yeah,” I say, the gears in my brain turning as I slip an arm around her waist. “Neither can I.”
RELEASE BOOST AND REVIEW: Juicy Rebound by Toni Aleo
✓ Best friend’s little sister
✓ Sizzling romance
✓Prequel available now!
Juicy Rebound by Toni Aleo is releasing on JANUARY 29th!
Chandler Moon’s career as a defensemen for the IceCats is on fire. However, his marriage has gone up in flames…literally. He’s resigned himself to the single life and being the best dog dad he can be, but he still holds out hope that one day he’ll find “The One.” So, imagine his surprise when he runs into “The One Who Got Away.”
Amelia Justice.
His best friend’s baby sister.
AKA: “The One Who Is Totally Off-Limits”
Amelia is broken. The punches that life, and her ex-husband, have thrown at her have her down for the count. She’s cut herself off from her family and friends as she works to rebuild her self-esteem and her spirit. Hidden away in a small town, she never expects to reconnect with “The One She Should Have Chosen.”
Chandler is so much more than he was in college: more handsome, more muscular, more tattooed… It was supposed to be a casual fling while Amelia and Chandler worked to put the pieces of their lives back together.
But as every good hockey player knows, a rebound can turn into one hell of a goal.
My Review
In hockey, a rebound occurs when ‘the puck bounces off the boards or the goalkeeper’s equipment,’ either providing the offense a second opportunity to score or placing the puck on one of the defenseman’s sticks forcing play to head towards the other end of the ice. A rebound that’s ‘juicy’ is one where scoring a goal is at a premium, putting the pressure solely on the shoulders of the player who snags the rebound, hoping the puck  hits the back of the net.
In personal relationships, a rebound makes someone feel second best..someone who is USED to get over the person who dumped the user…someone who will never be enough because they’re merely a distraction…a way to move on and still feel comforted in some way, even if it’s only a physical comfort.
Thankfully, when it comes to a rebound in hockey, Chandler Moon is quite apt at maneuvering those to his team’s advantage…now, do they sometimes take a bad bounce and end up hurting the IceCats? Absolutely, but Chandler’s an excellent defenseman, which means he knows how to do his job.
Personally, Chandler Moon may be up for a rebound or two since his divorce, but it’s beyond clear that he is not really a rebound kind of guy and when it comes to Amelia Justice, his best friend’s little sister and the object of his past infatuation,  Chandler doesn’t view her as a rebound and he’s hellbent on proving that fact to Amelia as well, even if he leads Amelia to believe that, that’s all they’ll be if that’s what she needs in order to give him a chance.
The fact that Amelia is more than a little gun-shy when it comes to relationships is understandable. She lost herself, her family, and her passion for a sport she loved, and that’s going to take time to come back from, because not only does she have to heal from the loss of her marriage, but the heartbreak from her family making her choose between her ex and them and that ultimatum destroyed her and made her feel utterly alone, which means that the path of forgiveness and healing will take time to work through, but it seems Amelia is ready…she just may need a bit of a push to get things started…thankfully, a certain professional hockey player will help Amelia in any and all ways that he can.
Chandler and Amelia rushed into their respective marriages when they were younger, completely wrapped up in what they thought would be their forever love, but now they’re both on a new journey in life and hopefully in love and the fact that there was a connection between them back in college and it’s one that continues in the present helps readers to hold on tight as Amelia heals a bit more and figures out that even though she thought she was only looking for a rebound that what she was really searching for and hoping for was to get a second chance with Chandler Moon.
I’ll never get enough of Toni Aleo’s sports romances and the way she includes the characters’ hockey family members and their actual families. Both groups are pivotal to the success of the hero and heroine, which means that all actions taken to push the main characters and/or to make them aware of everything that is happening around them is done with good intentions, even if the male and female leads don’t feel that way in the beginning or even at the end.
Juicy Rebound is a great start to Aleo’s new hockey romance series, and I’m excited to see where she takes her IceCats both personally and professionally.
About the Author
My name is Toni Aleo and I’m a total dork.
I am a wife, mother of two and a bulldog, and also a hopeless romantic.
I am the biggest Shea Weber fan ever, and can be found during hockey season with my nose pressed against the Bridgestone Arena’s glass, watching my Nashville Predators play!
When my nose isn’t pressed against the glass, I enjoy going to my husband and son’s hockey games, my daughter’s dance competition, hanging with my best friends, taking pictures, scrapbooking, and reading the latest romance novel.
I have a slight Disney and Harry Potter obsession, I love things that sparkle, I love the color pink, I might have been a Disney Princess in a past life… probably
Belle.
… and did I mention I love hockey?
