My Review

I have to admit…I didn’t know how Kelly Elliott was going to change my mind about Trevor Parker and his manwhore/asshole ways. He frustrated the living hell out of me even when he wasn’t the main character of the story, so the fact that I was going to get inside his head and hear all of his internal musings…his justification for how he treated Scarlett…his inability to settle down – yea, I wasn’t looking forward to it and I truly thought he was going to piss me off even more than he already has, and that doesn’t even include all of his acting before thinking gems that further put him in the dog house with Scarlett and other family members. 

I love that Scarlett thought of herself and the baby first, not jumping right back into a relationship with Trevor after he broke her heart time and time again and made her feel used and misused whenever he wanted her. Trevor has a lot to make up for, and the fact that Scarlett held steadfast to what her head was telling her to do, even when she was clearly conflicted due to her strong feelings for Trevor and the extreme pressure she felt to do things ‘properly’ in the eyes of her parents. Keeping her distance from Trevor is definitely not something her heart wants her to do, but Scarlett refuses to be hurt by him again, so her cautious attitude is necessary, and I felt like that was the right decision for her and for them.

Once again, the Parker siblings and their significant others as well as their parents step up in big ways for Trevor and Scarlett, not only to help them fix what was broken between them but also to celebrate together, harass one another, anything and everything that a close and loving family should due for each other. The Parkers are a family full of big personalities, but at the end of the day, they have one another’s back and that means everything to all of them. 

Trevor is certainly reckless with Scarlett’s heart and her feelings, but the fact that he understands exactly what his actions did to Scarlett and works to make amends for his behavior made me believe in his feelings for her and made me trust that he wouldn’t let her down again, as long as he could help it.

Scarlett’s recklessness is due to her love for a man who has always said he’ll never commit, never settle down, and it’s not that she thought she could change him, it’s more that her heart and her body wanted him so much that she willingly took what she could get until it came to the point where she couldn’t give so much of herself to a man who gave her nothing in return.

Kelly Elliott’s Cowboys & Angels series is a collection of amazing books with complex characters and the struggles and triumphs they face. I definitely feel like I’m an honorary Parker family member, and while I’m sad to say goodbye to them, I’m so glad I had the chance to read about them and witness them all get their happily ever afters.

My Review

I can always rely on Kendall Ryan to bring the sweet and the swoon in her romances, and since I’ve been reading quite a few dark romances lately, it was a much needed break to delve into Finding Alexei and be swept up in this feel good/warm your heart story, where the hero and heroine find themselves in a unique situation, building a connection that feels so right despite their differing lives.

And even though their bond seems too good to be true due to extenuating circumstances, I don’t think either of them would mind if the little makeshift family they created becomes their indefinite reality.

Ryan’s heroine, Ryleigh, is an independent woman who doesn’t mind working hard and taking care of herself; in fact, she prefers it that way, and even though she’s in a bit of a complicated situation – one not of her own doing or choosing – she’s determined to make it on her own, even if it’s clear that, that might need the best option. Ryleigh’s not one to use someone else, so while she allows a handsome stranger to come to her aid when she truly has not other choice, she won’t abuse his kindness, even if Alexei Ivan wants her to because he’s drawn to Ryleigh in a way that deserves exploration.

Alexei never seemed like the stereotypical rich professional athlete. He’s made mistakes and he owns up to them. He’s definitely an alpha male whose presence commands his audience, but there is a softer side of him, a kind-hearted side that comes out with Ryleigh and Ella. He sees them as his and he becomes highly protective of them because he doesn’t want them hurt, but in a situation like theirs, it’s almost impossible to shelter them from everything, and it’s that idea that makes Alexei feel inferior at times.

Ryan does a good job of developing Ryleigh and Alexei’s connection and feelings for each other as the story progresses. Both of them have their reasons as to why they should hold the other at an arm’s length, but their attraction to one another was never based on looks alone, so despite the difficulties they may encounter along the way, they owe it to themselves to find out if what they feel is real and lasting.

Finding Alexei has a unique and intriguing plot line that illustrates the importance of kindness regardless of the situation. Alexei stepped up numerous times for someone who was a complete stranger to him, and he did it time and time again, not only because he felt an undeniable connection to Ryleigh but because he knew she needed help and he had the means to make her life a little bit easier. I don’t think either of them expected them to fit so well together despite their differing worlds and lifestyles but that didn’t stop Alexei from barging into Ryleigh’s life and staying there in order to not only help her but because he needed her as well.

My Review

In Kim Karr’s latest release, the main characters, Tori and Adrien, aren’t ordinary people, and no matter how much they don’t want to be, because of their royal positions, they’re continually fodder for the paparazzi, and in contemporary society, public opinion seems to mean everything, which is why Tori and Adrien’s first encounter, during a time in which they’re both a bit lost, is both unexpected and exhilarating, but it also is supposed to be a one time deal – a way to relieve some of the tension that surrounds them given the fallout of their actions and decisions.

Princess Victoria Blanchette’s life has never been her own; since the day she was born, she was meant to carry a prestigious royal title – one that defines every aspect of her life, putting her duty to her people and her royal responsibilities above her own wants and needs. But because of her position, a ‘suitable’ husband is something that Tori needs; in fact, if she doesn’t have one, she will never wear the crown as Queen, but that’s only because of a royal decree that leaves her hands tied. 

Prince Adrien Pierre Laurent may be ‘washed up’ in some people’s eyes, but he seems to be Tori’s perfect match, even when she thinks he’s just a soccer player. He’s intelligent, well-spoken, handsome and beyond sexy; plus, his sweet side is more than swoonworthy, and despite his Royal Rebel moniker, his feelings for Tori make him want to be the royal he’s expected to be despite his less than stellar past.

I love the fact that both Tori & Adrien’s perspectives are provided; this is probably my favorite way a romance story is told. What’s also insightful are the chapters where and Kim Karr also gives insights through the media’s outlook, shedding light on what’s happening in the world of the royals. With these varying views, readers are able to see the whole picture and understand all that’s at stake for not only Tori and Adrien but also the citizens of the five Vespa Isles.

There’s a lot going on in Washed Out Royal, and because the story is fast-paced, I feel like some parts of the story line weren’t fleshed out enough, especially when it comes to Tori and Adrien’s relationship and how their feelings grow for each other despite everything happening around them. But despite my need for a bit more insight, I enjoyed this royal romance, and I’m eager for the other princes to have their stories told.

My Review

I always enjoy Meghan Quinn’s romantic comedies – she crafts entertaining stories with quirky and unique characters whose hijinks, one-liners, and swoon worthy moments never fail to make me laugh and give me the feels. In Quinn’s newest release, The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister, the hero, Bram Scott, and the heroine, Julia Westin, couldn’t be more different, but I think that’s what

makes a relationship between them possible because even if they seem incompatible on paper and maybe even after Bram completes Julia’s dating program, the fact that they’ve secretly crushed on each other since their college days and that Bram is clearly ready to find love as long as it’s with Julia gives them more than a fighting chance.

But there are quite a few variables that Bram and Julia must contend with in order to get their happily ever after and one of the biggest issues is how Julia views the man who Bram is as well as who he was in college…oh, and the little issue of Bram being Julia’s brother’s best friend. 

Bram is definitely an interesting hero. I love the fact that he doesn’t take himself too seriously and while sometimes he’s a bit over-the-top, he does him regardless of the situation, which illustrates just how secure he is with himself; in fact, it’s that attribute that makes things beyond entertaining when he has to endure Julia’s questionnaires and protocols in order to complete her dating program and the intimate discussions he has to have with Julia. And Bram definitely uses their meetings to his advantage, even when Julia wants to ring his neck.

The flashbacks to Bram’s college days and his interactions with Julia allow readers to see that he’s a different man in present-day…not he just needs to prove that to Julia.

I have to admit that it took me a bit to figure Julia out – she’s definitely a quirky, intelligent, and independent woman but I feel like she holds too much inside and overthinks every situation and while that’s a good thing when it comes to her business, her own personal life seems to suffer, which makes the fact that she’s a matchmaker a bit more complicated.

I absolutely adored the Bromance between Bram, Rath, and Roark. The bond this trio of friends share is as entertaining as it is endearing. They give each other shit but also have each other’s back and they understand one another even more than I think they even realized.

The one relationship that I would have liked to see more of is Julia and Rath’s brother/sister bond. There were quite a few comments made about how close they are and how Rath protects her, but I wanted to see it through their own perspectives in order to truly capture just how much they lean on each other.

The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend’s Sister is another great read by Meghan Quinn, and I am crossing my fingers that she’ll give her readers Rath and Roark’s stories sometime in the near future.

“She left on Monday,” Addison tells the other woman. I think her name is Myla.

“Tania stopped by over the weekend to say goodbye. We’ll miss her around here. How’s the roommate search going?”

Addison groans. “Not well, as in nonexistent. I don’t know where to start.”

“Have you asked around? I’m sure Marlene has suggestions,” Myla laughs.

“No way. If I give that nosey-nellie an inch, she’ll run off with a mile. Talk about added stress.”

“Gah, can you imagine who she’d come up with? I’m sure Betty would toss her name in the hat.”

Addison shakes her head. “Not happening.” Her shoulders rise and fall with a big breath, the weight seeming unbearable. “Where do I find someone reliable and responsible and easy to get along with?”

“Right here,” I blurt.

Both girls whip around and gape at me. Myla’s shock quickly morphs into a grin. Addison can’t seem to pick her jaw up off the floor. She sputters, “How much did you hear?”

I can barely make out her words over my thundering pulse. “Enough.”

“You wanna move in with me?”

My heart beat skyrockets, threatening to bust a vein. What the hell did I get myself into?

“Shane?” Addison prods.

“Uh, yeah?”

“Were you being serious?”

“Yes?”

She raises a brow. “That doesn’t sound very convincing. Are you really looking for a place to live? Raven mentioned something along those lines.”

I learned fairly quick how fast word gets around in this town, so I’m not surprised people are talking. “I am, yep.”
