My brother’s best friend has a proposition for me. Have I mentioned he’s a sexy single dad? Tell me more…

There are a million reasons why Miles Hart isn’t the man I should date but allow me to enumerate the top three. He’s friends with my brother, he’s a single dad, and he’s a sexy, in-demand rock star. He might as well wear an off-limits, totally unavailable, and don’t-even-attempt-to-ride-this-ride sign.
Then he asks me to be his plus-one when his band plays at his high school reunion, and the night unfolds in ways I never expect.
***
I have three good reasons to keep my hands off Roxy Sterling–her brother’s my business manager and good buddy, my kid is the center of my world, and the last time I fell hard for a woman I was burned so badly that my interest in relationships has gone up in flames. But once I bring Roxy’s body next to mine on the dance floor, I want all the not-safe-for-work things I can’t have with her. So I make a proposition.

Then I learn exactly how risky we might be.

My Review

Lauren Blakely’s Heartbreakers series has been a blast reading, but more than that, it’s such a feel good set of stories that readers can’t help but gush over them because, of course, the heroes and heroines are dynamically amazing, but also because the insanely cute and precocious kids as well as a slew of secondary characters add so much to each and every story line.

The Hart brothers, while all unique, are a trio of intelligent, hardworking, grounded, and attractive men whose love of music and showmanship made them a huge success and continue to allow them to live comfortably while also laying down roots. Campbell and Miller are amazing heroes in their own right, but I have to say that their younger brother, Miles, definitely owns my heart.

What I love most about Miles is that he’s a genuinely nice person who cares about other people and treats people with the respect and attention they deserve. There’s just something about a sexy rocker who doesn’t want to be known for his music or his looks; he wants the focus to be on who he is as a father and as a human being and Lauren Blakely does a great job illustrating what’s important to Miles and the steps that he took and continues to take to put what matters most at the forefront of his life.

Roxy is an amazing heroine – one who made a series of decisions based on her OWN wants and needs, and I love that she focused on how she wanted her life to be and then went about making the changes necessary for that kind of life. She’s quirky and entertaining, and she makes everyone in her presence feel like they matter. I loved being inside her head and listening to her work out her feelings for Miles and what that would mean for them, especially with her pregnant status and the fact that she believes going alone is the best way for her and her unborn child.

Miles and Roxy’s ‘plus-one’ agreement is the ideal situation for these two when it comes to their aversion to dating and commitment, but the fact that they so easily connect and revel in their time together also speaks to how wrong both of them are in thinking any kind of relationship would never work because it’s more about not finding the right person, but now that they seem to have found the one who ‘gets’ them in ways that no one else has, the only thing stopping them from moving forward is their fears and their stubbornness, and I love how Lauren Blakely allows Miles and Roxy to slowly chip away at their hesitancies by creating situations where their plus-one agreement is needed, forcing them, on numerous occasions, to see what’s right in front of them.

Once Upon a Wild Fling is an absolute MUST READ romance; I loved the slow burn feel of the story line, which is more than appropriate given Miles’ feelings for his ex and Roxy’s current knocked-up condition, but, in the end, it’s more than clear that Miles and Roxy add so much to each other’s lives and become an irreplaceable part of one another’s family, and it’s the idea of family and its invaluable position in their lives that resonates from the pages of all three Hart brothers’ stories, and as their family dynamics are shaken up and added to, it’s quite obvious that they wouldn’t want it any other way.

Excerpt

~ROXY~

I find Miles behind a stage that has probably witnessed high school graduations, speeches, and musicals. His eyes take a leisurely stroll up and down my body. The way he stares, every zone in my body feels erogenous. Especially the boob zone, where he spends more time than usual.

When he slides his gaze up to my face, he looks hypnotized, then he shakes it off and brings me in for a hug. “So glad you’re here, Rox. Now go enjoy the show, and I’ll find you the second we’re done.”

Once it starts, I do enjoy the show. I never saw the Heartbreakers in concert when they were in their heyday. I’ve never been a concert person. Not that I’m opposed to music, but my mother set a precedent when I was in the eighth grade and my friends had a chance to see P!nk perform. I asked her if I could go, but the next day I had to take the prep school entrance exam, so the answer was no.

It’s a better use of your time to stay in and study,” she’d said.

That’s what I mostly did in high school, listening to music on the radio as I worked through math problems and wrote essays on the Vietnam War. The Heartbreakers kept me company that way. Later, when Miles became a solo artist, I’d find myself humming his tunes when I heard them play in Starbucks, or while riding the escalator at Bed Bath & Beyond.

I became a fan, but I’m not a fangirl like some of the others here tonight. I don’t just mean the women. The Heartbreakers have fanboys and fangirls, singing along, belting out tunes. They’re crowding the stage, and the security guards hired when the Heartbreakers were confirmed for the event are standing on alert, arms crossed. Fortunately, there are no bras or panties thrown at the stage, nor briefs or belts either. I’m glad Miles’s high school class is full of fans but not crazy groupies.

The music reverberates in the gymnasium as the trio of gorgeous brothers sings love songs and fun songs and sexy songs while disco balls twirl from the ceiling and strobe lights flash.

When the set nears the end and they dive into one of Miles’s most popular solo tunes, a love song called “Today,” I swear his eyes find mine in the crowd as he sings about yesterdays and tomorrows. The way he sings turns the tingles into sparks, and I’m feeling it now for sure—that click, click, click of my heart, or maybe it’s my hormones.

Whatever it is, my breath comes faster as I dance.

When the show ends and the band thanks the crowd, that’s my cue to find him backstage. He’s sweaty, and I’ve never found sweat so sexy before. He drapes an arm around me, drops a kiss to my cheek, and says, “Hey, sexy bodyguard.”

My voice is a little breathier than I expect as I reply, “Reporting for duty.”

Romcom perfection! The plot was one I didn’t see coming!”

From the time I was a kid, I knew I wanted a job helping people. After serving in the Rifles regiment of the British Army, I focused my civilian career on becoming a bodyguard to the rich and famous. For a Cockney Brit, I never imagined a twist of fate landing me a position in the United States Secret Service and protecting the President’s son. But then my boss made an unexpected request: leave my current placement to move in with his only daughter to give an added layer of protection against the threats she had been receiving. I’d never lived with a woman who was off-limits to me. It wasn’t just that Caroline had a boyfriend. She was my best friend’s sister, and my boss’s daughter. But the longer we’re in such close quarters together, the greater the temptation grows, but I know I’ll lose everything if I pursue her.

Growing up as the only girl and with two overbearing older brothers, I’m no stranger to being overprotected. Just as I finished up college and prepared to truly dip my toes into the adult world, my father was elected President of the United States, which added a whole new level of protection with the Secret Service team attached to me. Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly be more smothered, I began receiving threats, and my family decided it wasn’t enough to just have an agent living down the hall from me. Nope, I was to have one move in with me, and not just any agent, but Ty Frasier—my brother, Barrett’s best friend, and my brother, Ty’s, head agent. While most women would enjoy living with a sexy, buff Brit, having a roommate threw a wrench into all my plans. Especially when I began noticing Ty was so much more than a hot guy.

RELEASE REVIEW: CRAVE by Adriana Locke

Synopsis

Hadley Jacobs is over Machlan Gibson.

Sure, she’ll always be a little weak to the dimple in his right cheek and the way his five o’clock shadow makes him ruggedly handsome. But that’s not enough to cover every other thing about him because they all drive her nuts. Like how he’s won’t admit he’s wrong even when he knows it and how he drives his stupid car a million miles an hour on wet asphalt. As she rolls back into town and takes a seat at Crave, she won’t take the bait. She’s over him. Mostly.

Machlan isn’t over her.

It’s not because he hasn’t tried. He reminds himself over and over that she’s not the girl for him. After all, she drives him insane with her sassy attitude and the way she calls him out on everything. She beats him at poker, even though she doesn’t know the difference between a straight and a flush, and when she looks at him with her bright, blue eyes, it’s unnerving. When she climbs onto that bar stool and orders a drink, he puts it in front of her and ignores the sparkle in her eyes.  He’s not over her, but she won’t know that.

But she does know that. And he knows she’s not as over him as she’s pretending to be. When life forces their hand this time, there’s more on the line than a pile of poker chips. It’s their forever.

My Review

Second chance romances is one of my absolute favorite tropes; there’s just something about two people who have a shared history…who have attempted and failed miserably to move on from one another because their feelings own them in a way that they will never let this once happy couple truly be free of each other. And even though this kind of story puts my emotional state on tilt, the journey these two characters take as their love guides them back to one another, offering hope amidst the heartache as well as love despite the pain.

Machlan Gibson and Hadley Jacobs once shared a love that they thought was everlasting, but it was also one with a long history of love and hate, pleasure and pain, and it’s those tenuous times that now make every interaction between them grueling. They drive each other crazy; they’re too volatile when they’re around each other, and their stubbornness is legendary, which means that sass, arrogance, and rudeness are what drive them. But despite their supposed hatred for one another, there’s still love, and regardless of what comes out of their mouths, what actions they take, or what their internal musings indicate, they’re the love of each other’s lives.

Crave is definitely a story that has readers’ emotions on overload. Because of how Adriana Locke illustrates their past struggles and their present concerns, there’s just so much to FEEL in Machlan and Hadley’s story, and there’s not a reader who will come away unscathed from the details of these characters’ lives.

Machlan and Hadley are extremely flawed characters who make mistakes, pay for them, and then feel they don’t deserve anything good because of them, but that’s only because these two can’t seem to let go of the past…let go of the heartbreak…let go of the feeling that they’re undeserving, and without that progress, there’s no way they can try again, which, in my opinion, is exactly what these two deserve after everything they’ve faced together and separately.

In order to understand just what went wrong and how everything came to a less than stellar conclusion, it’s important that Locke provides readers with the reasons behind Machlan’s present attitude and behavior and what it will actually take for these two to get things right, because unless they can find a way to move forward, together, nothing for Machlan and Hadley will ever be completely resolved, which means they’ll be in a perpetual state of limbo until everything gets figured out and a final decision is made one way or another.

Crave is definitely more angst driven than I anticipated, but with how the story played out and the details that Locke provided readers with, it’s beyond clear that the emotional toll from their past is still wreaking havoc in the present, which means that the love that they still have each other will either finally sizzle out or gain momentum and give Machlan and Hadley a second chance to make things right and not lose the love of their life.

Happily ever afters must be fought for and Machlan and Hadley have more than earned theirs, what matters now is if these two can get their raw feelings under control enough to dow hat needs to be done for both of their sakes.

 Blurb

The moment I looked into his eyes, I knew I was in trouble.

The second I heard his name, I knew I should stay away.

Our fathers were mortal enemies—Chicago crime bosses from rival families.

But that didn’t stop Leo Conti from pursuing me.

Being together was dangerous, reckless, and totally hot.

He wanted me. I wanted him.

Nothing could possibly go wrong, right?

My Review

I didn’t think Chelle Bliss could create another Gallo female who could rival my love for Izzy Gallo, but Daphne Gallo is a close second, which is why it makes sense that she would fall for a guy who she has no business falling for and go through the torment and the trouble of giving into her attraction and desire for the enemy because sometimes the body and the heart come to an agreement that the head wants nothing to do with, but because it’s outvoted, it has to learn to deal with the hand it was dealt, which means figuring out a way to accept the fact that Leo Conti is the man Daphne wants, despite the plethora of reasons she should stay away.

Daphne and Leo come from rival families and the fact that their fathers hate each other illustrates just how ill-advised it would be for the children of mortal enemies to become involved, but hell if Leo isn’t one persistent alpha male who won’t stop until he claims the woman he wants desperately, which means that a shitstorm is headed their way and where these two end up due to the outside pressure on both sides of them will depend on a number of mitigating factors, forcing both Daphne and Leo to decide if betraying their family by being together is worth the wrath, the risk, and the devastation that it could possibly lead to when their forbidden love affair is brought out in the open.

Because Flow’s storyline is fast-paced, everything between Daphne and Leo moves forward quickly, forcing them to go all in with each other, risking so much more than just their hearts, because there’s nothing that two rival crime bosses won’t do  when it comes to protecting their own, but what they consider theirs may not but what readers expect.

I really enjoyed Daphne and Leo’s story. Daphne does remind me a lot of Izzy, but Daphne also has her own quirks and her resilience shines through in ways that truly define who she is all on her own and gives her a uniqueness that may be pure Gallo female but it’s also pure Daphne based on what readers learn about her throughout the course of her story. Leo is EVERYTHING! I loved his drive, his stubbornness, his cockiness; he has all the makings of a Chelle Bliss badass hero and his words and actions prove just who he is and what he’s made of, and it’s beyond obvious that his desire for Daphne is something he’s unwilling to give up without one hell of a fight. And, that’s what I find incredibly sexy about him.

I always love heading back into Chelle Bliss’ Gallo world; I’m so glad she branched off of the initial series to bring her readers more Gallo goodness, and I can’t wait for more.

REVIEW AND EXCERPT: Medicine Man by Saffron A. Kent

Release Date: September 27th

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Add To Goodreads:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39095082-medicine-man

Blurb

Willow Taylor lives in a castle with large walls and iron fences. But this is no ordinary castle. It’s called Heartstone Psychiatric hospital and it houses forty other patients. It has nurses with mean faces and techs with permanent frowns.

It has a man, as well. A man who is cold and distant. Whose voice drips with authority. And whose piercing gray eyes hide secrets, and maybe linger on her face a second too long.

Willow isn’t supposed to look deep into those eyes. She isn’t supposed to try to read his tightly leashed emotions. And neither is she supposed to touch herself at night, imagining his powerful voice and that cold but beautiful face.

No, Willow Taylor shouldn’t be attracted to Simon Blackwood, at all.

Because she’s a patient and he’s her doctor. Her psychiatrist.

The medicine man.

My Review

I haven’t read a ton of taboo/forbidden romances nor have I had the pleasure of reading a story by Saffron A. Kent, even though I have quite a few of them on my Kindle, so when I saw the sign-up for Medicine Man, I knew it was my chance to dive into one of Kent’s worlds and experience all of the writing goodness that my fellow bloggers have mentioned on numerous occasions.

I definitely wasn’t prepared for Willow and Simon’s story…not for the push and pull between them that seemed to exist almost from the start…not for the depth of Willow’s struggles and the soul searching required for her to not necessarily heal but to recognize and come to terms with her depression and identify ways to cope with it, but more than that, I wasn’t prepared for just how much I was pulling for this couple, despite the age difference, despite the nature of their professional relationship, and despite the fact that some of Simon’s actions frustrated me and made me question the type of man he truly is.

The sexual tension between Willow and Simon resonates from the pages; it becomes this living and breathing entity that’s unrelenting regardless of how much either of them tries to fight it or the complications that could occur by them rising everything to be together in the ways that they haven’t wanted to for quite some time.

For only being 18 years old, Willow is an incredibly insightful and strong character, and while she clearly has deep seated issues, she also has a strength inside of her that the people at Heartstone help her to find, allowing her to see in herself what they see in her while also supporting her in ways that help her to move forward and reclaim a life that she deserves.

Medicine Man addresses several hot button issues, and Kent does justice to their complexity, taking great care to examine all of their intricacies and to enlighten her readers with profound insight into the ups and downs associated with these weighty topics.

My first foray into Saffron A. Kent’s storytelling was everything that I wanted it to be, and even though it took me a bit to immerse myself completely into Willow and Simon’s story, once I was there, I loved every frustrating, sensual, and complicated moment that leads to an ending that Willow and Simon have earned.

Excerpt

“Do you have someone special, Dr. Blackwood?”

Someone you kiss? Someone you grab and pull into a dark alley and press against

walls?

I don’t say that but I’m definitely asking that.

It’s like he hears the unspoken questions because the heat of his body seems to have

doubled. Like his blood is rushing in his veins with an uncanny speed.

With flaring nostrils and a hard jaw, he answers, “No.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m busy.”

I want to smile. Actually, I’ve never wanted to smile this hard. Ever. His answer calms

me but it also makes me restless to move closer to him. I want to trace my palm over the arch

of his chest and see if I got it right in my dreams.

But I don’t do any of those things. I don’t want him to take away this small concession

he’s given me.

Why is he even giving it to me? I’m not complaining. But still.

“Busy with patients?”

“Busy with my job. Yes,” he says, all professional-like.

That’s what he is. Professional and distant. Dedicated to his job and fixing people. If

Mass General let him go, then they are idiots.

I’m an idiot, too, in this moment.

Instead of backing off, I want to do something. Something that might crack his cool

façade. Maybe reaching up and messing up his no-nonsense hair.

What would he do? If I did that? If I grabbed his collar and pushed him against the wall?

And kissed him?

My eyes drop to his lips, his soft, soft lips. There’s a cleft in the middle of his lower lip. I

want to taste that cleft, dig my tongue in it, wet it, suck on it, bite it.

“So you don’t have fun at all?”

“No. I’m not a fun guy.”

I watch his lips form the words, and every syllable that comes out of his mouth makes

my need to shake him, kiss him, mess him up, stronger. Stronger and stronger.

The need is so consuming that I hardly notice when he puts his hand on my palm and

takes it off his body. It’s final and smooth, his action. Effortless. As though my touch barely

registered to him.

“But I think you have a point. It’s after hours and I should go… have fun rather than

spending my time with a patient.” He steps back then. “I’ll see you next week. Same time.”

COVER REVEAL: TEQUILA TEQUILA by Emma Hart

TEQUILATEQUILA-BANNER1.jpg

Tequila + you best friend + your bedroom =  um, whoopsie?

Tequila Tequila, an all-new hilarious standalone romantic comedy from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Emma Hart is coming November 13th!

TT-FULL.jpg

Synopsis

Don’t sleep with your best friend.

Take it from me. I did it. And it was awful.

I-wish-the-tequila-made-me-forget kind of bad.

The problem is, Luke has forgotten. He swears that he can’t remember a thing about that night beyond the trays of tequila shots being set on the tables.

Except I can’t forget. I can’t forget how good his hands felt until I fell over and hit my hip on the dresser, and I sure as hell can’t forget the entire two minutes of tap-tap-squirt.

Awkward. Embarrassing. And the new subject of a couple of dirty lucid dreams.

But I have no intention of telling him what we did. Nothing good comes from telling your best friend he’s the worst guy you’ve ever slept with.

Which makes the tequila on my birthday a very, very bad idea…

Leaving everything behind to follow her dreams, Jaymerson travels to Italy where she learns to stand her own feet, move on with her life, and open her heart to another. When Jaymerson returns home and their paths cross, but they are no longer the same people, and the old animosity they used to feel for each other flares between them again. Especially when more secrets and truths are revealed, breaking everything they once had together.

COVER REVEAL: LOST AND FOUND by Lexi Blake

Owen Shaw and his “brothers” lost everything, their entire existence erased. Science had robbed he and all the Lost Boys of their memories and their past, but not their future. Hunted by every intelligence agency in the world, they are focused on two goals: find a cure for what was done to them and ensure that the technology that ruined their lives doesn’t get out into the world. Rebecca Walsh might be the key to achieving both. Owen has been studying her closely, living in her building, and he cannot resolve how such a beautiful, giving woman could have helped design the evil process that destroyed his past.

Dr. Rebecca Walsh has dedicated her life to researching the secrets of the mind. Her atmospheric rise in her field was fueled by the horror of watching her mother’s agonizing journey into madness at the hands of a disease with no cure. She vowed to never rest until she finds it. But obsession takes a heavy toll, and when Owen moves into her building she realizes how much of her life she has missed out on. Owen opens her eyes to a whole new world, filled with joy, laughter, and possibly love.

Owen and Rebecca grow closer, unraveling more about each other and the mysteries surrounding her connection to Hope McDonald. As the sinister forces working against the Lost Boys descend on Toronto, secrets long buried are uncovered that could shatter the bonds holding the Lost Boys together and cost Rebecca her life.

#1 MUSE by T. Gephart (#1 Series, #5)

Synopsis

Landing a writing gig in Hollywood was just as difficult as becoming an actor, and something Claire Becker had learned the hard way.

Sure, she didn’t have to conform to ridiculous beauty standards and give up her love for raw cookie dough, but the sting of rejection burned all the same. The only things that kept her sane were her two amazing roommates and her guilty pleasure—writing fan-fiction.

Getting lost in her own world, she’d forget that she had yet to land her dream job, and instead spent time with her dream man—Nick Larsson. Well, at least in the literary sense. Too bad he wasn’t aware or an active participant—her fictional love life, outstanding.

Tall, good-looking and sexy beyond comprehension, Nick Larsson not only had a famous last name—and four equally smoldering brothers—but was talented beyond belief. A star on the rise with a critically acclaimed series, his body and face were what fantasy scripts—and dreams—were made of. Made for some pretty steamy writing opportunities too.

And yes, it was probably “wrong” for Claire to objectify him, but it wasn’t like anyone knew about it. Just her, and her two amazing, supportive roommates.

Or at least they were amazing and supportive, and bound to be missed after Claire killed them.

In a moment of unexplained insanity, one of them —or both, each as bad as the other—sent her latest installments to the man himself.

Cue panic of epic proportions.

All Claire needed to do was sneak into his apartment and retrieve the misappropriated story before Nick, or anyone else, read it and mistook her for a creepy stalker. Although, breaking and entering probably wouldn’t convince anyone to the contrary either.

Claire was going to get the best material of her life, or end up with a restraining order. Either way, the story was getting a hell of lot more interesting.

T Gephart is a USA Today and International bestselling author from Melbourne, Australia.

With an approach to life that is somewhat unconventional, she prefers to fly by the seat of her pants rather than adhere to some rigid roadmap. Her lack of “plan” has resulted in a rather interesting and eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history. She’d tell you all about it, but the statute of limitations hasn’t expired yet. But all those crazy twists and turns have led her to a career she loves—writing romantic comedy.

When she isn’t filling pages with sassy and sexy characters with attitude, she’s living her own reality show in the ‘burbs of Melbourne with her American husband, two teenage children, and her fur child—Woodley.

She loves adventure, to laugh, travel, and strives to live her life to the fullest.
