Billy unlocked the door and gestured for her to go first. She hit the lights for the living room, and he dropped their bags onto the living room floor next to the door.

She turned and frowned, because it wasn’t like him to—

Billy’s hands were suddenly in her hair and his forehead was against hers. “You drive me fucking crazy, Shayna.”

“I-I do?” she asked, totally caught off guard but nearly euphoric at his words. “Good crazy, o-or—”

He nodded. “Good crazy. Even though, fuck. I should resist wanting you. I know I should.”

“No, no you shouldn’t,” she said, nearly breathless. “Why should you?”

His eyes were dark fire as they bore into hers. “You’re just starting out in life. Everything ahead of you, full of possibilities. But me…I’m a busted, used-up soldier without an army or a war. And I’m supposed to be looking out for you, not taking advantage of you.”

Shayna didn’t know what to respond to first. She hated that he saw himself that way. Shaking her head, she grasped at his wrists, holding him to her. “We had that conversation already. You can’t take advantage of someone who wants what you’re doing. And I…I do. God, you have to know how much I crushed on you when I was younger. Living with you has only made that stronger, Billy. Nothing about you looks busted or used-up to me. Nothing at all.”

He came closer, close enough that they touched everywhere, and he searched her eyes. “Ryan wouldn’t approve of this, of me.”

The closeness made it clear just how turned on he was, and the demanding press of his erection against her belly nearly stole her breath. “Ryan doesn’t get a say…” Her words trailed off, because as much as she believed them in this moment, they resurrected a memory she didn’t want to recall.

Of a time she’d uttered nearly those exact words to Dylan. And the consequences had been catastrophic.

“What do you want then?” Billy asked, pulling her from a lane of memories she didn’t want to go down. “I don’t want to assume, and I don’t want you to feel pressured into anything because you live in my house. Jesus, just saying that makes me feel like a lecherous asshole.”

“You’re not. And I don’t feel pressured. I just want you.”

Suddenly, Billy’s lips were on hers and his tongue was in her mouth and his hands tightened in her hair. She moaned at the suddenness of it, at the goodness of it.

He walked her backwards towards the steps. “Is this okay?”

“Yes,” she whispered around the edge of a kiss.

His hands moved to her waist and went to the hem of her white tank top. “Can I see you?”

Shayna nodded, pulling away from their kisses only long enough for the shirt to pass over her head, leaving her standing there in a lacy white bra and her jeans. He dropped her top to the floor.

“So fucking beautiful. Can I touch you?”

“Yes,” she whispered, sucking in a breath as he spread out his big hand against her throat and then dragged his fingers downward until he was cupping her breast.

He caught one of her bra straps and dragged it off her shoulder until he bared her nipple to his fingertips. He hauled an arm around her waist, bringing them closer even as he leaned down to kiss her exposed flesh. “Can I taste you?”

Jesus, those questions in that deep rasp were so freaking sexy that she could hardly stand it. “Please.”

But I have a secret. It’s big and to some, unforgivable. And it’s why I let Reed destroy me, or maybe I destroyed us. Either way, I’m worse than broke—I’m broken.

Once upon a time, we were happy…Yet privilege has an ugly underside and in the blink of an eye, my world crashed down around me.

RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW: MESS ME UP by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Mess Me Up

Series: Bear Bottom Guardians MC #1

Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: MC Romance

Release: September 6, 2018

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40497128-mess-me-up

When Rome Pierce moved to Bear Bottom, Texas, it was his intention to lay low. To not be seen. To find a way to heal his body and soul—as well as his son’s.

Nobody would know by looking at him that he used to play professional football. Not with the Bare Bottom MC cut covering his back, and definitely not with his friendly smile completely obliterated.

No longer is there charm in each smooth word that comes out of his mouth. What’s left is an angry, bitter, scared man that’s terrified one day he’s going to wake up and his entire world is going to be gone.

Nobody knows what drove him to leave the game he loved—nobody but her.

She’s the one person that has helped him make it through the dark days and even darker nights. She’s the bright and shining star in his pitch-black sky.

And he doesn’t even know her name.

He should be afraid that she knows things that not anyone—not even his best friend—knows.

Yet, with each encounter, he gives what little bit of his soul remains, and before he knows it only two people on this earth—one dying, and one too afraid to live—make his life worth living.

Until one day he has to choose—the love of his life, or the life he brought into this world.

Two impossible situations. One decision that would change him forever.

Dear Lani Lynn Vale,

Well…you definitely messed me up with what Rome and Izzy had to face/endure as acquaintances, as friends, and finally as lovers once Izzy helped Rome fight through his sadness…his depression…his black hole of anguish and grief.

My heart hurt throughout the first quarter of the book; Rome’s helplessness and torment resonated from the pages, and there was no way I COULD NOT ACHE FOR EVERYTHING that Rome lost. In some ways, I was grateful that the darkest moments of the story were at the beginning because I knew that some of the fractures could be healed and that light could shine through the relentless darkness that Rome embraced. And, even though I wanted things to fast forward quickly so the happy could return to Rome and Izzy’s life, I’m glad that you didn’t rush things…I appreciate that you illustrated the struggle to move on…to cope with their new existence, and while I wanted to shake Rome a few times and make him realize who he has at his back and stop shutting everyone who loves him out, Rome’s reactions…his feelings are realistic…they speak to a man who has been irrevocably changed. But I also knew that you would guide Rome back to those who mattered most…that he would be desperate for Izzy’s light at some point and only then could he look to a future.

I’ve loved so many of your feisty heroines, but there’s something about Izzy that makes her stand out among the rest. Her life has never been easy, but she’s always so positive…always moving forward even when she wants to crumble, and with the amount of loss that she has experienced and the ways in which life’s moments have scarred her body, her heart, and even her soul, I wouldn’t have been surprised if she would have finally had enough and given up. But that’s not who Izzy is…that’s not the spirited fighter who lives inside her and that fact is clearly depicted throughout the trials and tribulations she faces on her own, when it comes to helping her favorite ex-football player/Bear Bottom MC Biker fight his way back to life.

I have to admit, some of the situations that Rome and Izzy faced, especially towards the end of their story, didn’t feel right…I felt like they’d already endured so much that there was no need for anymore complications or hardships, but I trusted this is the story and the details that these two characters wanted you to share with your readers and accepted the path you laid out for them, even if it made me want to pull my hair out with frustration.

I also have to say that I was worried about reading Rome and Izzy’s story after already reading Tyler’s book, but it didn’t matter that I already knew they would end up together because what they had to overcome made the journey to their ending that much more important.

With the introduction of quite a few new characters in Mess Me Up, I can’t wait for their stories, particularly a certain brother who needs to move passed what happened to his partner/lover and what he did in retaliation of that crime and find his own piece of happy. I’m ready for his story to hurt a bit, knowing that you’ll find a way to heal him and help him let go of the demons that still haunt him.

Love,

LLV’s biggest fan!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: TEMPTATION by JD Hawkins

Temptation by JD Hawkins

Release Date: August 29th

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Photographer: Wander Aguiar

Cover Model: Collin V.

Blurb

What happens when the boy you’ve wanted your whole life finally wants you back?

I’m used to taking what I want, being the best at what I do. During the day, I make big bucks as New York’s premiere consultant. At night, I can get any girl I lay my eyes on. I thought this life was what I wanted: working hard and playing harder–with penthouse apartments, luxury cars and bottle service every weekend. After six years in the city, I know I’ve been living like a monster for too long. I need to get my act together. I need to find something real. I need to come home.

LA means family and a fresh start. My parents and my friends who are close enough to be siblings.

And Melina.

Melina is nerdy smart, with a challenging sense of humor and legs for miles. It’s so hard to describe her…enigmatically beautiful. I’m sure there’s a word for it in French. But I know there’s a naughty girl hiding behind that shy smile that I’m dying to drag out.

There was always something between us. I never forgot her laugh, never could get her off my mind. Nobody ever seemed to notice how my body would react when I was near Melina, how much more focused I became—maybe not even Melina herself. But this time it’s different.

The more time we spend together, the more I wonder if there was something there all along. After so long in the fast lane, I don’t know if I can handle settling down. But seeing Melina’s passion, I’m tempted beyond belief.

I have to admit it: temptation is hard to resist.

My Review

What I, initially, found most interesting about J.D. Hawkins’ newest release is that its title implies a particular kind of temptation, especially since it’s a romance novel, but as soon as I started reading Wyatt Hyde and Melina Stapleton’s story, I got the feeling that what would entice both characters goes way beyond a sexual connection.

The fact that these longtime friends haven’t spent much time together in the past 8 years doesn’t mean that Wyatt and Melina haven’t thought of one another often and despite the lack of communication, when Wyatt returns to Los Angeles, contemplating laying down roots in the very place he grew up, the role that Melina could possibly play in his life weighs heavily on his decision and is far more tempting than he could have imagined.

Wyatt’s determination to take his life in a new direction works in Melina’s favor as well because he helps her to step outside of her shell…to move from behind the camera and become the self-confident and independent woman he knows is underneath this beautiful, shy woman. Melina is a heroine who readers will relate to and even though Wyatt is partially responsible for her transformation, Melina does the work and believes in herself, allowing her to take risks and give into the chemistry that has always been between her and Wyatt.

So many times unrequited love really isn’t unreciprocated; it’s just bad timing or a missed opportunity that fortunately comes back around, and that’s exactly what happens for Wyatt and Melina, but now that it’s their ‘time,’ they need to decide how far they’re willing to go when it comes to their feelings for each other and the temptation to not only give one another their bodies but quite possible even their hearts.

I really liked the journey that J.D. Hawkins took his characters as well as his readers on in Temptation. The fact that Wyatt recognized just how far off track his life had become and made the decision to go back to his home town and find a new way to live each day better than he was illustrates that Wyatt’s a man of character…a man who might have went on tilt a little bit but now has a clear perspective on how he wants to move forward, both in his career and in his relationships, and Melina is his perfect partner-in-crime, and as they help one another to grow as people what’s between them also grows into something that neither one of them is willing to give up.

Excerpt

I go dizzy, feeling so faint I need to close my eyes for a minute before I can do anything but bask. Wyatt strokes my hair slowly, the rough-but-cool touch of his hands bringing me back to life, and when I open my eyes I see him lying there beside me.

Suddenly the haze clears and I feel my stomach sink like a stone. The full magnitude of what just happened forming like a beast on the horizon.

“Oh god…I can’t believe we just…” I mumble.

“Yeah…” Wyatt replies with a lazy grin. “We did.”

The anxiety comes fast, flooding into that empty space left by orgasm.

Wyatt. My childhood crush. A friend I share with our families, our entire group. My new, albeit temporary, boss. As amazing as it felt in the moment, the myriad ways in which this was a horrible idea come out from wherever they were hiding an hour ago.

How could I be so reckless?

And how the hell are we going to keep this a secret?

COVER REVEAL: FALL by Kristen Callihan

The first time I met Jax Blackwood things went a little sideways.

In my defense, I didn’t know he was Jax Blackwood—who expects a legendary rock star to be shopping for groceries? More importantly, a blizzard was coming and he was about to grab the last carton of mint-chocolate chip.

Still, I might have walked away, but then he smugly dared me to try and take the coveted ice cream. So I kissed him. And distracted that mint-chip right out of his hands.

Okay, it was a dirty move, but desperate times and all that. Besides, I never expected he’d be my new neighbor.

An annoying neighbor who takes great pleasure in reminding me that I owe him ice cream but would happily accept more kisses as payment. An irresistible neighbor who keeps me up while playing guitar naked–spectacularly naked–in his living room.

Clearly, avoidance is key. Except nothing about Jax is easy to ignore—not the way he makes me laugh, or that his particular brand of darkness matches mine, or how one look from him melts me faster than butter under a hot sun.

Neither of us believes in love or forever. Yet we’re quickly becoming each other’s addiction. But we could be more. We could be everything.

All we have to do is trust enough to fall.

My Review

As soon as I heard the title of Tia Louise’s newest release, When We Kiss, I instantly thought of Betty Everett’s song, “It’s in His Kiss,” and two particular lines of the lyrics seem to epitomize Tabby and Chad’s slow burn romance and the depth of their attraction and desire for each other.

“If you wanna know if he loves you so

It’s in his kiss.”

Since Tabby and Chad have spent the last year avoiding one another,  building up a whole lot of sexual tension, their first kiss is a long time coming, but once it occurs, there’s no stopping these two from getting down and dirty, so much so, that Tabby feels the need to name Chad’s private part, illustrating just how quirky she is and how captivated she seems to be with Chad and his bedroom skills.

I love how Louise slowly reveals that Chad is not as straight laced as Tabby assumes, which means that as the begin to build a solid connection, committing to seeing where their relationship can go, readers begin to understand why they’re so attracted to each other despite how different they seem to be at the beginning of their story.

As I continued reading Tabby and Chad’s story, the fact that Tabby had specific career goals and plans to leave Oceanside was always in the back of my mind, so as they found themselves falling in love and starting to want more than a physical relationship, I wasn’t sure how it was going to work between them without one or both of them having to give up something that truly defines who they are. Tia Louise odes a nice job of illustrating Tabby’s struggles and her need to do a bit of soul searching so she knows when she does make a decision that she’s considered all options and avenues presented to her.

I love the small town vibe of Oceanside that Louise creates throughout Tabby and Chad’s story, and I find it quite interesting that they seem to be at opposite ends when it comes to their little city. Chad moved there to escape his old life, embracing the slower pace of his new home while Tabby seems hellbent on escaping all the judgmental people who have watched her grow up and act out when she was under her uncle’s roof. Tabby has a severe case of wanderlust, and, in some ways, Oceanside is too set in its ways and too old fashioned for the fearless and adventurous woman that Tabby is. I especially enjoyed the old ladies of Oceanside who do their best to get into everyone’s business; these women are the busybodies of the town, which is realistic for a small environment like Oceanside and it’s just one more reason that Tabby feels the need to escape, which makes her feelings for Chad a bit problematic.

The ending of When We Kiss is perfect for who Tabby and Chad are and what they’ve become. The idea that a kiss started their love and it also helped to bring their love back shows how important passion in a relationship is, especially with someone like Tabby whose fiery personality keeps Chad on his toes.

Even though I wanted a bit more insight into some of the relationships that existed in the story line and further explanation as to why Tabby and Chad are who they are based on their pasts, I really enjoyed When We Kiss. Tabby is definitely a handful but if anyone can ‘tame’ her and make her see that she can have adventure, a career, and even love right where she’s at, it’s Chad.

REVIEW AND EXCERPT TOUR: TIMID by Deveny Perry

Willa Doon has always been shy. Her quiet demeanor was something she’s always embraced. That is, until Jackson Page moves to town. The one man she desperately wants to take notice struggles to remember her name.

Year after year, Willa stands by, watching as the bartender slash playboy drowns his demons in beer and sex. Then one night, he shows up at her door, suddenly aware that the girl he’s seen around Lark Cove is now a beautiful woman.

Except what he doesn’t remember is that this visit isn’t his first. They spent a night together once before. A night he’s forgotten, thanks to a bottle of tequila.

A night that crushed a timid girl’s heart, and set a broken man on the path to heal them both.

My Review

I love when the title of a character’s story signifies who s/he is at some point in the book, but even more than that, I adore witnessing that same character grow and develop throughout the course of the storyline, not only changing who s/he is at his/her core, but also altering people’s perceptions of him/her in a way that allows others to truly and finally SEE who the person is standing in front of them.

I never doubted Willa’s inner strength despite her outward shyness and timidity; the fact that she’s been sheltered all her life in the small town of Lark Cove as well as her decision to lay low and study hard while at college explains her less than outgoing demeanor, but it doesn’t mean she’s weak, and despite her lack of ‘experience,’ she seems to know what she wants and deserves and I applaud her for not settling when it comes to relationships. I get that it may seem a little farfetched for a 26 year old woman to have saved her virginity for a man who has never truly seen her for the woman she is, but it’s not to say that it doesn’t happen…it’s not to say that she’s simply a hopeless romantic who would never get the man of her dreams because that man was an oblivious manwhore. Willa is Willa, and her choices are her own, which means that other people’s judgment shouldn’t really matter because it’s not their life.

I will say that I don’t really understand why Willa’s crush lasted so long or felt so overpowering given the nature of her non-relationship with Jackson nor can I wrap my mind around the fact that he is didn’t know how Willa felt about him when everyone else in Lark Cove knew her feelings for him. But that’s where I think the title of Willa and Jackson’s story is tied to Jackson more so than Willa because his timidity goes along with his inability to be part of something lasting due to fear and his past and it’s that hesitancy that doesn’t allow him to truly see anything other than familial love when it’s there because it’s too much of a risk for him.

I think that Devney Perry just scratches the surface of who Jackson is and what he’s capable of when it comes to love and commitment, but if there’s anyone who can teach him what he needs to know…the qualities he needs to have to lay claim to the one woman who he can’t get out of his head, it’s Willa, and because she has the such patience and a keen insight into people, she’s more than capable of proving to Jackson himself that he’s so much more than he thinks he is.

I love the small town of Lark Cove and its wing nut and genuine inhabitants. It’s a great story for this cast of characters and I’m so not ready to live this place yet, which makes so happy that there’s a third book to come.

Excerpt

I scooched my chair in toward the table, trying to put a little more space between Jackson and me, but he wasn’t having it.

He put both hands on the back of my chair, then leaned in close. “Hi, Willa.”

“Uh . . . hi.” I shivered at the heat from his chest on my bare shoulders.

Why was he standing so close? My parents were right there. Our table was one of four tall, square ones in the center of the room and there was plenty of space between tables.

Plenty. P-L-E-N-T-Y.

But was Jackson using any of that plentiful space?

No sirree. He stayed pressed against the back of my chair, like there were only three inches of usable space behind him, not three feet.

My skin prickled he was so close. I tried to nudge my chair forward again but it barely moved. Sweat beaded on my temples and I pulled in a shaking breath.

Jackson’s woodsy, rich scent was everywhere. It overpowered the stale beer, pizza and peanuts, and I inhaled a deep breath, unable to resist.

Sexy Hot Forest. That’s what they’d call his cologne.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

Meet Kristen

1P0A9162

Kristen was born and raised in a small resort town in her beloved Montana. In her mid-twenties, she decided to stretch her wings and move to the Pacific Northwest, where she made her home for more than a dozen years.

During that time, Kristen wrote many romance novels and joined organizations such as RWA and other small writing groups. She spent countless hours in workshops, and more mornings than she can count up before the dawn so she could write before going to work. She submitted many manuscripts to agents and editors alike, but was always told no. In the summer of 2012, the self-publishing scene was new and thriving, and Kristen had one goal: to publish just one book. It was something she longed to cross off of her bucket list.

Not only did she publish one book, she’s since published close to thirty titles, many of which have hit the USA Today, New York Times and Wall Street Journal Bestsellers lists. She continues to self publish, best known for her With Me In Seattle and Boudreaux series, and is also proud to work with William Morrow, a division of HarperCollins, with the Fusion Series.

Kristen and her husband, John, make their home in her hometown of Whitefish, Montana with their two pugs and two cats.

RELEASE DAY LAUNCH AND REVIEW: MESS ME UP by Lani Lynn Vale

My Review
