RELEASE REVIEW: NOT SO NICE GUY by R.S. Grey

R.S. Grey’s newest romantic comedy, NOT SO NICE GUY, is available TODAY!

Get your hands on it now!

About NOT SO NICE GUY

“Oh my god. Who is that?”

I get asked this question a lot.

“Oh him?” I reply. “That’s just Ian.”

Just Ian is the biggest understatement of the century. Just the Mona Lisa. Just the Taj Mahal. Just Ian, with his boring ol’ washboard abs and dime-a-dozen dimpled smile.

Just Ian is…just my best friend.

We’re extremely close, stuck so deep inside a Jim-and-Pam-style friendzone everyone at work assumes we’re a couple—that is until one day, word spreads through the teacher’s lounge that he’s single. Fair game. Suddenly, it’s open season on Ian.

He should be reveling in all the newfound attention, but to our mutual surprise, the only attention he seems to want is mine.

He’s turning our formerly innocent nightly chats into X-rated phone calls. Our playful banter sports a new, dangerous edge.

I want to assume he’s playing a prank on me, just pushing my buttons like always—but when Ian lifts me onto the desk in my classroom and slides his hands up my skirt, he doesn’t leave a lot of room for confusion.

I’m a little scared of things going south, of losing my best friend because I can’t keep my hands to myself. So, I’m just going to back away and not return this earth-shattering kiss—oh who am I kidding?!

Goodbye Ian, ol’ buddy, ol’ pal!

Helloooo mister not so nice guy.

My Review

As an English teacher, words are my profession and my passion, so it’s easy to identify writers whose stories flow effortlessly and whose word choice fit the characters and their situations, and it’s beyond clear that R.S. Grey knows her way around words and her romantic comedies are always on point!

NOT SO NICE GUY includes so many of the qualities that I adore about romance books:

  1. It uses humorous diction – I’m a total goner for witty banter and snarky interactions. There’s just something about a writer being able to create one-liners and lengthy exchanges that are laugh out loud funny that makes me giddy; I can’t tell you how many sentences I highlighted in Sam and Ian’s story due to the entertaining way they explore a topic.
  1. Sam is an extremely relatable character due to her quirky personality and, at times, her obliviousness. I had a total girl crush on her because she owned her dorkiness and reveled in her love for telling stories. I identified with Sam on so many levels that I almost feel like she’s my spirit animal;)
  1. Readers get both main characters’ point of view which allows them to understand Sam and Ian’s perspective and what they’re internally thinking even if their outward actions imply something else. If Sam said half the things she says in her heat out loud, her colleagues would be completely caught off-guard, but they would also not stop laughing because she really is hilarious.
  1. I love friends-to-lovers’ storylines – there’s just something about characters having an established relationship and then pursuing something more – even if they need a push or two along the way, and the fact that it takes a few bouts of jealousy to get Sam and Ian to see what’s been in front of them for the past three years proves that the attraction had always been there even if neither of them realized it until they were forced to admit their true feelings for one another.

I never stopped smiling as I read Sam and Ian’s story; there are so many humorous interactions that showcase Grey’s comedic prowess and provide readers with a lot of feel good moments.

NOT SO NICE GUY is a great summer read, and it’s one readers will adore because it has a great mix of fun, steam, and hilarity.

REVIEW AND EXCERPT BLITZ: IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME by Kylie Scott

“Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you’ll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Perfection!”

– Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author

Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings.

Sometimes first loves are the truest.

My Review

It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time is not a typical Kylie Scott story, and I love that she took a risk to write a love story where there’s a forbidden aspect to the hero and heroine’s relationship as well as a significant age gap between them. It’s never easy to discuss topics or to create a storyline that readers could possibly take issue with due to their own personal beliefs and feelings. But, in my opinion, the 15 year age difference between Adele and Pete shouldn’t really be a point of contention for readers because Adele is of age when she acts on her feelings and ultimately gets shunned for them when she’s 18 and then when Adele and Pete finally take a chance on each other 7 years later, she’s a grown woman who should be able to choose how she lives her life and who she wants to be by her side.

Don’t get me wrong…I understand that it would be frowned upon for Adele and Pete to be together when she just graduated from high school and the fact that Pete was her father’s partner also adds to the awkwardness of the situation, but it’s clear since Adele started coming to her father’s house at the age of 16 during her summer vacations that she shared a special bond with Pete…that she became a confidante to him and that their friendship meant EVERYTHING to Adele.

Scott provides readers with flashbacks of Adele and Pete’s time together before one misinterpreted situation destroyed several friendships, so readers are shown the whys and hows of Adele’s forced departure and the reasons she stayed away for 7 years, and Scott also makes it clear that the only thing really stopping anything from finally happening between Adele and Pete is his fears and, at times, his obnoxious and immature behavior.

Pete’s words and actions are why I struggled to understand Adele’s infatuation with him and her determination to make things work between them. For much of the story, I didn’t like Pete and I actually didn’t want Adele to fight for him because I didn’t think he deserved her, and it was difficult for me to be happy for them when he finally does get his head out of his ass because of his previous reactions and missteps.

The biggest reason I think I struggled with Pete was because the story is only told through Adele’s perspective and what she shares with readers about her heartbreak and emotional state is difficult to see passed. If we were privy to Pete’s internal thoughts, it would have been easier to understand his frame of mind and give him the benefit of the doubt in some situations due to the circumstances that he had to deal with, but because we only get her side of things, I felt too much sympathy for what Adele had to go through and it made me angry with Pete and his inability to get it together.

Regardless of my issues with Pete, though, Kylie Scott crafted an emotional, angsty, and steamy read, and it was quite easy to mesh the flashbacks with the present day scenes because Scott provided smooth transitions between them and I really enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Adele’s stepmother, because they added humor and banter to Adele and Pete’s story, making the heavy issues not be so overwhelming.

Excerpt

It was meant to be a soft kiss. A chaste one, even.

The minute my lips touched his, however, everything changed. Callused hands grabbed the sides of my face and my mouth opened on a gasp. His tongue swept inside, taking me over. Holy hell. Shoes and purse hit the floor, forgotten. Nothing about this kiss was slow or easy. The man devoured me. Every ounce of emotion poured into that kiss, all of the anger and frustration between us. His tongue was teasing and tasting, driving me wild. Then he drew back to suck and nip at my bottom lip. One hand slid around the back of my neck, the other over my hip to grab at my ass. His hold was firm, a little rough even. He treated my body like it belonged to him and I wasn’t gentle either.

Apparently experience mattered. Because all I could do was try and keep up.

I held on tight to his open shirt, straining against him, trying to get closer. I’d have crawled inside the man if I could. Turned out that under certain circumstances, the taste of scotch worked for me in a big way. Against my hip, his cock hardened, digging into me. And oh my God, I’d done that to him. Me. How amazing! Meanwhile, my body felt liquid, core aching and empty. I needed him inside of me and it seemed like I’d already been waiting forever.

“Pete. Please.”

“Fuck,” he muttered, breath hot against my ear.

I fumbled at the remaining buttons on his shirt. My damn fingers didn’t seem to be working. Easier to just push the whole thing upward. Luckily, the man decided to help, tearing the shirt off over his head. More skin was good. And he was so hot and smooth, a thrill to the touch. The solid flesh of his pecs and the flat plane of his stomach.

He tore at the zipper on the back of my dress, dragging fabric down over my shoulders. A growl came from the back of his throat, a noise of frustration, impatience. I’m reasonably certain I heard the silk rip. I didn’t care. His hands and mouth seemed to cover every bit of skin revealed, touching and tasting me everywhere. The dress got stuck on my hips. Out of the way enough for now.

He didn’t even bother undoing my bra, simply peeling down one of the lace cups to free my flesh. My breast filled his hot palm as it took the weight. Fingers plumped me, his thumb flicking over my hard nipple. The sting of pain followed by the heat of his kiss made my head spin and my body ache. There was no room for thought as he fed me deep, wet kisses. Slowly, he took us to the floor. No time for anything else. Just the urgent need to have him inside me.

The hardness of the polished wood was cool against my back. My legs were spread, his body between them. And with his broad chest above me, his weight taken on one arm, he was all I could see. I swear even the insides of my thighs were wet, I was so ready. It would have been embarrassing with anybody else. But this man, he had to know, he had to understand. It had always been him.

“Pete, I need—”

“I know,” he said, voice harsh and low.

REVIEW AND EXCERPT TOUR: MIXED UP LOVE by Natasha Madison

Hunter

When my business partner asked me to do him a favor, I had no idea he was sending me on a blind date his mother arranged for him. I walked in the bar, saw the woman drinking her third martini, and knew I was in for an eventful night.

After the unexpected second date, she didn’t know my real name or who I really was. By that time, the lie was too far gone, and I wanted her too much to admit the truth.

Laney

It’s not every day you find out your ex-boyfriend is engaged.

I shouldn’t have agreed to the blind date. My mother insisted, and I wasn’t in any position to turn down a night out.

I will admit, I definitely shouldn’t have ordered that fourth martini before said blind date even arrived.

The man turned out to be swoon worthy, handsome, condescending—a perfect distraction. Then I found out he was a liar.

I’ve never been in over my head to this degree.

Then again, I’ve never been in love.

My Review

Mixed Up Love is a perfect title for Hunter and Laney’s story because from their first blind date – the one that Hunter did a solid for his best friend and went out on his best friend’s date – things become messy, not only because Laney is on her fourth martini and her inhibitions are nowhere to be found but also because Hunter is pretending to be his best friend, meaning that Laney doesn’t truly know her date and as things progress between them, Laney continues to be in the dark about the man she’s falling for, which is a recipe for disaster and heartbreak.

The way Natasha Madison crafts Laney and Hunter’s initial interaction is unique and intriguing, and even though readers know the deception that is taking place, we also recognize the chemistry between the hero and the heroine, and as they form a deeper connection, readers are waiting for the truth to be revealed before things go too far because without the truth, despite the strong feelings, things are going to blow up in his face and ruin any forward progress he’s made with Laney.

The storyline’s pacing is beyond fast, which is problematic in some respects because it’s difficult to see how a foundation can be established under false pretenses; I would have liked to see Hunter and Laney’s feelings fleshed out a bit more. I don’t mind insta-love/insta-lust, but development needs to occur after the initial bond is felt, so that readers can see that the hero and heroine’s connection goes beyond attraction, leaving no doubt in readers’ minds that Hunter and Laney can make things work between them even when the truth is revealed.

Hunter and Laney’s story is humorous, witty, has great interactions between the main characters and supporting characters, and is full of emotional moments as the feelings grow between the hero and the heroine and Hunter figures out a way to still have Laney by his side even if he has some groveling to do due to his lies.

Excerpt

I pull up to the front door, and the valet meets me at my door once I stop. “Good evening, sir,” he says once I open my door.

“Yeah, I won’t be here long,” I tell him as I get out, not bothering to take off my sunglasses when I hand him the keys.

“No worries, sir. It will be here when you are ready,” he says, handing me the ticket for later. I put it in the inside pocket of my suit jacket. I walk inside to the hostess table, where a woman who looks like she is eighteen stands smiling.

“How may I help you?” she asks sweetly. I stop and look around to see if I might recognize the woman I’m here to meet, even though I’ve never met her. I spot a couple of women at the bar, but I instinctively know they aren’t her. I also check for exits. It’s not my fault; it’s just instilled in me.

Looking to the left, I don’t see anyone sitting alone, but then I look to the right, and I see her. I don’t know why I know it’s her, but I just do. With curly long blond hair, she downs a martini, then picks up another one and brings it to her mouth. I spot a waiter walking with two more martinis on his tray, and I’m not surprised when I see him approaching her table. “Great,” I say under my breath. “I found her,” I tell the hostess and start walking toward the table. She spots me and watches my every move. Luckily, the glasses I’m wearing stop her from seeing my eyes.

The closer I get to her, the more my pulse speeds up. What the fuck? This is weird. I look around maybe to see if something else is piquing my interest or maybe I spotted something to elevate my pulse, but no, it’s her. The fact that a gorgeous woman is sitting by herself and drinking like a fish is enough to get any man’s adrenaline pumping. Isn’t it?

“Are you Laney?” I ask, taking off my glasses, and my gray eyes finally meet her blue ones. She opens her mouth, expecting, I think, something to come out, but nothing does. I continue looking around to see if anyone is watching her, and it’s no surprise that I spot two guys at the bar sizing her up.

“Here are two more.” The waiter smiles at her, putting two more glasses down on the table and taking the two now empty ones away. She laughs nervously, and I want to reach out and trip him when he walks away.

“It isn’t what it looks like.” Her soft voice breaks me out of my plan, and I turn back to her as she smiles at me, causing my heartbeat to skyrocket. The collar of my shirt suddenly feels tight, but it’s not even buttoned.

“Really? I find it hard to believe,” I finally say. Looking around again, I spot the same two guys in suits sitting at the bar watching her. This time, one of them spots me and looks back down at his drink. “It looks like you’re sitting here waiting for something bad to happen.” I pull out the chair and sit in front of her.

“Um.” She still doesn’t say anything.

When her nose isn’t buried in a book, or her fingers flying across a keyboard writing, she’s in the kitchen creating gourmet meals. You can find her, in four inch heels no less, in the car chauffeuring kids, or possibly with her husband scheduling his business trips. It’s a good thing her characters do what she says, because even her Labrador doesn’t listen to her…

This seductive contemporary romance from bestselling authors Meghan Quinn and Sara Ney will keep you on the edge of your seat as you fall in love with the first novel from this dynamic duo releasing October 9th!

Dear Mister…**strike out** no, too formal.

Hey there sweet cheeks *strike out* no, too forward.

To whom it may concern,

Full disclosure; before we move forward with this email, I would like it to be known that I have consumed an adequate amount of alcoholic beverages to intoxicate myself tonight. Three margaritas, two shots, and one beer—because it was free.

I think it’s important to be open and honest with your co-workers, don’t you?

So here I am, being honest. Drunk but honest. Or just drunk with lust? You decide.

I like you so much it’s clouding my judgment and making me do things I never would sober. Like write this letter.

I have a hopeless, foolish, schoolgirl crush on you when you are the last person on earth I should be falling for. Did you know people around the office call you a sadist? An egomaniac. An insensitive, arrogant prick. Your bark is worse then your bite, and you don’t scare me. The fact is, I’d love that bite of yours to nip at my bare skin while we’re both wearing nothing but sheets.

For once I want you to look at me as more than one of your employees.

And as long as we’re being honest, that navy blue suit you wear? With the crisp white shirt? It really makes me want to loosen your tie and show you who’s boss.

Love,

Sincerely,

Yours.

Cora lived in a nightmare, but through sheer force of will, she’d turned it into something beautiful. She had a smile that could pierce the darkest soul. And with one glance, she shredded mine.

Lie: I was only there for a fresh start.

Lie: I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

Lie: There was nothing I could do to save her, either.

But that’s the thing about lies—you never know who to believe.

About the Author

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.

A beautiful, defiant princess.

A renowned, sinfully gorgeous Hollywood actor.

A love affair that is sure to rock the British Monarchy…and the world.

Their love affair began intensely and passionately. Princess Adeline and Josh Jameson knew any future together was impossible—her status as a princess and his standing as a Hollywood heartthrob dictated that. But the heights of pleasure they could take each other to were wildly unanticipated by them both.

Josh’s absolute disregard for Adeline’s status quickly drew her into his hedonistic world. And her perfectly worn mask and false façade captivated Josh to the point of obsession.

The boundaries became blurred. The physical became emotional. Their hearts became entwined.

But a cruel turn of events rips their worlds apart and Adeline is more bound than ever by the protocol and expectations her title commands. The army of royal advisors who guard the secrets and scandals of the Monarchy will go to unthinkable lengths to keep the smoke and mirrors in place…and Josh away from Adeline. She knows the power she possesses comes with agonizing sacrifices. Walking away from Josh devastates her…but it keeps him safe from the corrupt institution that has ruled her life.

Yet Josh refuses to lose the woman who has consumed him so completely, distorted his boundaries, and stripped him of all sensibility.

About the Author

Jodi Ellen Malpas wrote her debut series, The This Man Trilogy, in secret, worried about what people might think if they knew what her imagination was capable of. She was shocked herself. But she finally found the courage to unleash her creative streak and self-published THIS MAN – the first book of the This Man Trilogy – in October 2012. She took a chance on the story with a hero who soon became one of modern day fictions most prolific alpha male characters. Jesse Ward – also affectionately known as The Lord of The Manor, sparked incredible reactions from women across the globe and catapulted Jodi into the world of women’s fiction.

Jodi went on to self-publish the second book in the trilogy, Beneath This Man in Jan 2013, just before Grand Central Publishing, part of the Hachette Book Group, picked up the popular trilogy and the unknown Jodi. The third book of the trilogy, This Man Confessed, took Jodi to the top of the bestsellers lists, earning her the proud title of #1 New York Times Bestselling Author. This Man has since been voted one of the top romance novels of all time.

With so much love, enthusiasm and a thirst for her words from her readers, Jodi suddenly wasn’t afraid of her imagination anymore. She went on to write The One Night Trilogy with the delectable and mysterious Miller Hart, and stole the hearts of her readers once again. Her first stand-alone novel, THE PROTECTOR, released in September 2016 and has since been nominated for a Reviewers’ Choice Best Book Award. Jodi’s next stand-alone novel. THE FORBIDDEN, is set for release in August 2017.

All seven of her published novels have hit the New York Times best sellers list – as well as the Sunday Times list and various international best seller lists. Her work is now published in over 24 languages across the world.

Jodi was born and raised in the Midlands town of Northampton, England, where she lives with her two boys and a beagle. She is a self-professed daydreamer, a mojito addict, is famous for her obsession with Converse, and has a terrible weak spot for Alpha Males. Writing powerful love stories and creating addictive characters has become her passion – a passion she now shares with her devoted readers.

About NOT SO NICE GUY:
