My Review

Just how does a traditional girl in every sense of the word when it comes to relationships and commitment find herself with two bedfellows…two beyond sexy men who want to share every part of her at the same time?!?!

The answer may not be an obvious one at the start of Lola Leighton’s new release, Bedfellows, but once readers are introduced to Will and Sullivan and see firsthand their genuine feelings for her and their desire to show her every day that they can’t get enough of her body, her mind, or her heart, we become their biggest supporters and hope against hope that these thoughtful and intelligent men will prove just how good they all are together and why taking a chance on their chemistry and exploring their connection can’t be anything but right despite how wrong others believe it to be.

Adrienne, Will, and Sullivan’s story confronts the reality of how many people in society have judgmental and derogatory views on what they consider ‘abnormal’ relationships. Leighton doesn’t pretend that things will be easy for this threesome; in fact, it’s a major point of contention for Adrienne and she feels the pressure of that judgment, even as she attempts to work through it, accepting her feelings for both men and giving herself over to them in a way that will fill her life with more love and passion than she’s ever experienced.

I really like this sexier and kinkier side of a well-known romance writer; the steamy scenes will definitely leave readers panting and perhaps even wanting two alpha males of their own to have as permanent bedfellows until death do them part.

Stella Lilith used to have an adventurous side, but I think it’s been a while since she broke a few rules. “Will you climb out first?”

There’s my girl. “Yep.” I press down on the sink, hoping it doesn’t fall off the wall. It looks old, so I’m not sure it can hold my weight. But it’s getting louder in the hall, so I climb up, grabbing an exposed pipe above the window, and maneuver my legs through the opening. Good thing we’re on the ground level. Pushing off, I land on my feet in the alley and turn around. “Stella?”

She peeks out and by the way her lips are twisted and her eyes are looking at the cement, she’s nervous. “I don’t want to fall.”

“I’d never let you. Not to the ground anyhow.”

For a second, she looks confused, but her brow relaxes and a small smile appears. “You’ll catch me?”

“Every time.”

She disappears, and I can hear her climbing onto the sink. Her legs slide out the window until her ass rests on the metal sill. “Ready for me, Rivers?”

“All my life.”

“For real,” she says, her nerves causing a slight shake to her tone. “You’re going to catch me, right?”

“Always.” I take her by the ass, and say, “Put your legs over my shoulders.”

“What? No.”

“Yes. I’ve got you. Then all I have to do is back up as you slip out.”

“I’m not as light as I used to be. Are you sure you can handle me?”

I work my way under her so her legs are over my shoulders. “Don’t worry about me, baby. I can handle you all right.”

Her thighs squeeze my neck. I like to think it was the name I slipped in there, but it’s probably because she’s anxious to do this. She slips out a little more, and our eyes meet. “You’re sure you’re ready?”

“All you have to do is let go. I have you.”

Releasing the pipe, she ducks her head to the side while I support her back with my hands, holding her until she clears the glass. Helping her upright, my face is against the jeans that cover her vagina and she’s squeezing my head with her legs so tight I don’t know if I’m going to live. What a sweet fucking way to die.

My Review

Rivers Crow should be living the good life; he has fame, money, a slew of fans, and a career that he loves, but none of that matters because he doesn’t have the love of his life by his side, which means that his success is bittersweet and as unfulfilling as it is worthwhile.

Stella Fellowes’ life has never been easy, but the night she lost her soulmate due to a misunderstanding and the subsequent events that followed only solidified her new perspective on life – trust no-one and love no-one because it only leads to pain and devastation.

But sooner or later, the past needs to be confronted…the truth needs to be revealed and if there’s any chance for a second chance…a new beginning, it needs to be fought for until it’s clear there’s nothing to get back.

I have to admit…I was quite overwhelmed with all the plot lines involved in Rivers and Stella’s story. At its center, Rivers is a second chance romance; the hero and heroine have spent five years apart, which means that they are essentially strangers when Rivers heads home to Austin to try and win Stella back. The steps to a reconciliation while confronting the past is an arduous task on its own, so complicating things even further with other plot points was a bit taxing.

Don’t get me wrong, adding in further conflict to Rivers and Stella’s reunion was necessary, but in some ways, there were too many outside issues to factor in and it took the focus off of what went wrong between Rivers and Stella and what it would take to repair what was broken.

What I also struggled with was the main reason for Rivers and Stella’s breakup. Throughout the entire book, it’s made clear that these two were soulmates…that they shared the kind of love that would never waiver, but their love crumbled under one incident…one secret that was kept…one favor for a friend and a promise made – all due to a misunderstanding and a refusal to hear an explanation. That should not have broken their love…it should not have shaken their foundation, but it did and in my opinion, they both gave up too easily, not fighting for what was supposed to be forever.

Despite my issues and concerns with some of the story, though, I enjoyed Rivers, and I was solidly in their corner when it came to working towards a second chance. The intimate scenes between Rivers and Stella captured the love between them and the ease in which their feelings reemerged and their connection got back on track illustrated the true depth of their love.

There’s only one Crow brother left, Ridge, and with his perspective on life and love, it will be interesting to see where his story goes and how easy or difficult it will be for the right woman to bring him to his knees.
