Should she run from New York as fast as possible?

Or should she stand and fight?

Prepare for blood.

Prepare for betrayal.

Prepare for war.Freaks is the final installment of the Dirty Nasty Freaks series.

My Review

I’m not new to the dark and messed up worlds that Callie Hart creates nor am I unaware of the fact that her male characters aren’t guys that someone would want to bring home to meet her family, but I also am beyond aware that, that doesn’t stop Hart’s heroines from finding a bit of lightness amidst the darkness that surrounds these ‘bad’ guys and keeps them holding on to that fact despite the jacked up shit they become a part of and witness due to their connection to these broody anti-heroes.

From the beginning, Callie Hart’s Dirty Nasty Freaks series has been one hell of a fucked up ride, and I, for one, have absolutely LOVED every minute of it.

In Dirty, Felix “Fix” Marcosa and Sera Lafferty are on opposite sides, and despite their growing attraction and the fact that they dirtied each other up in deliciously deviant ways, Fix still has a contract to complete and what that means for the two of them plays out throughout the course of the text.

In Nasty, the already complicated situation between Fix and Sera turns even more dangerous, placing them both in dire circumstances because not only does Fix renege on his objective, but he also creates a new one, leaving Fix and Sera in a rather precarious position with those on the outside despite the bond that they are clearly forming.

But nothing could have prepared me for the events that occur in Freaks…the show downs that both Fix and Sera  must endure…the revelations that drive them to face their pasts and work through them in order to have a much different future…the games that they’re forced to play despite the fact that they might not win. There is so much information and turmoil for Fix and Sera to sift through that it almost seems unconquerable, but I learned earlier on in this series that these two characters are made of firmer stuff and that when their backs are against the wall that’s when readers and other characters see what makes Fix and Sera survivors.

Like Zeth Mayfair, Felix Marcosa breaks the mold when it comes to anti-heroes. He is one badass assassin whose fighting skills, consistent rage and lone wolf status matches up perfectly to Callie Hart’s other alpha male, but where Fix differs from Zeth is in his conscience…in his killer’s code regardless of how contradictory it sounds…in the fact that his heart still somewhat guides him and there’s a reason to why he kills the people that he does. But all of this doesn’t necessarily mean that Fix is better than Zeth; it just means that Hart has created two fantastically complex men who readers can’t help but love.

Sera Lafferty proves just how strong of a person she is throughout the course of the entire series, but it isn’t until she lays herself bare to Fix about her past and endures some intense and life altering situations that would destroy most people that she truly understands who she is and what she’s capable of and that’s what makes her a kickass heroine and Fix’s perfect partner.

I’m not going to give away anything that happens in the final book of the series, but I do have to say that I never expected it to be the person who Hart reveals is  behind the contract for Sera’s death nor did I anticipate how everything would be tied together in a way that brings everything full circle, not only for Sera and Fix but also for avid fans of Callie Hart, and that statement will make much more sense at the conclusion of Freaks.

RELEASE BLITZ AND REVIEW: A Little Bit Like Desire by Brooke Blaine

ALBLD-SBPRBANNER-ReleaseBlitz.jpg

A Little Bit Like Desire, an all-new STANDALONE contemporary MM romance from USA Today bestselling author Brooke Blaine is LIVE!

ALBLD-PRINT-FOR-WEB.jpg

What if you had everything in the world you wanted…except the man you never knew you needed?

Shaw Jennings, the seductive, enigmatic owner of Body Electric Tattoo works hard and plays even harder. He’s built a life he’s proud of, and though that doesn’t include a significant other, he’s got plenty of sexy men to keep his bed warm at night. None of them have ever made Shaw sit up and take notice for long, though. But that all changes when a famous rock star walks through his door.

Trent Knox had the world in the palm of his hand as the lead singer of TBD, one of the biggest rock bands in history…until the day he walked away. A getaway to South Haven Island seems like the perfect place for Trent to find himself again and reignite his passion for music. But what he never expects is to find his muse in a six-five, tatted-up badass whose sinful smile he can’t get out of his mind.

The only problem? Trent’s a notorious womanizer, and Shaw isn’t interested in being someone’s experiment—muse or otherwise. But in a town as small as this one, Shaw is finding it more and more difficult to keep the persistent rocker at arm’s length.

As the tension between them builds, maybe it’s time to finally give in and get carried away with something a little bit like…desire.

My Review

Let me start by saying that the opening scene of Brooke Blaine’s newest release, A Little Bit Like Desire, is one of the HOTTEST scenes I have ever read and the fact that the encounter happens completely in the DARK, with no names, no preconceived notions, and no words just makes it that much hotter. The entire scene is shown through Shaw’s point of view, and because his friend, Bash, is the one who set up this rendezvous in total darkness, there are no thoughts of doubt or fear; in fact, the mystery of it…the erotic nature of the situation only amps up the pleasure felt and the exploding release that occurs.

As an avid reader of Blaine’s books, I was introduced to Shaw Jennings, the hot tattoo artist, in Jackson and Lucas’ story, and with the insight provided in A Little Bit Like Love, it was clear that Shaw was not a man who needed or even wanted to settle down. He was up for no strings sex but there were never repeats in his bed, so the fact that he can’t get a certain mystery man out of his head, constantly replaying every sensual touch and arousing caress.

But never in his wildest dreams would Shaw have expected his unknown partner in the dark to be someone who would change so many aspects of his life.

Trent Knox may be a famous rockstar but he walked away from that life 6 months ago, needing a new direction for his career that stretches him as a musician and gives him the independence he craves. As a bisexual man, he has had to hide one side of himself from the world, making him feel incomplete, so taking Bash up on his ‘dark room’ experience is a no brainer for Trent; he just never thought that, that encounter would lead him to a man who not only helped him music but also allowed him to be himself in every way possible.

Trent is absolutely a game changer for Shaw, just as much as Shaw is one for Trent. They’re both pretty intense guys – ones who commands a room and attract stares from from everyone who cross their paths, and while their pairing may not seem like it would work due to the fact they are both dominant men, they fit perfectly together and experience something with each other that they’ve never felt with anyone else.

I absolutely adored Shaw and Trent’s story. The way that Brooke Blaine crafts their storyline perfectly illustrates their mutual attraction and once they both realize who the other one is, it further drives up their desire for each other and leads to some extremely steamy scenes between these glorious men.

I was beyond thrilled that Blaine didn’t make things more difficult than they needed to be for Shaw and Trent. It was clear that Trent never explored the side of himself that desired men due to his image as a rockstar, but that doesn’t mean he wants to hide it or make anything between him and another man a dirty little secret, and I love that, that stigma wasn’t an issue anymore than it needed to be.

A Little Bit Like Desire is one hot read but it’s also more than that…it’s about friendship…about having faith in oneself…about going after someone or something that a person wants, even if it’s scary and new, and after seeing Bash as matchmaker in Shaw and Trent’s story, I’m beyond excited that his story is up next.

RELEASE BLITZ REVIEW: Quit Your Pitchin’ by Lani Lynn Vale

Title: Quit Your Pitchin’

Series: There’s No Crying in Baseball

Author: Lani Lynn Vale

Genre: Sports Romance

Cover Model: Chase ketron

Photographer: furiousfotog

Release Date: July 20, 2018

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/39909973-quit-your-pitchin

What’s wrong with my butt?

She means those words to be directed toward the woman beside her, not him. But he can’t stop himself from answering.

Not when her ass is the most magnificent thing he’s seen in his life.

Apparently, answering her with ‘not a damn thing’ wasn’t what she was expecting.

She likely wasn’t expecting the baseball she took to the face at his next at bat, either.

All it takes is one ill-fated foul ball, and George Hoffman, Lumberjacks center fielder, falls head over

heels in love with Wrigley Field—and yes, that is her real name.

From that point forward, George and Wrigley fall into a fast whirlwind love that ends with them eloping to Vegas.

And he has his potty mouth, titty bar owning, pain in the ass grandmother to thank for it.

Not that he’s complaining or anything.

Who wouldn’t want to be married to a woman that made his heart race like he was in the final game of the World Series?

The only problem is trying to convince her of that.

George Hoffman and Wrigley Field, the hero and heroine of Lani Lynn Vale’s newest release, Quit Your Pitchin’, seem like a match made in baseball heaven, except for the fact that the heroine doesn’t know the first thing about the game of baseball, which is a bit of an issue since George is a professional baseball player for the Lumberjacks, but while Wrigley can use a ‘Baseball for Dummies’ book to acquire some much needed insight into America’s past time, neither she nor George has the power to control the media or his fans when it comes to their relationship and their issues being plastered all over the Internet, which is definitely a point of contention, especially due to how quickly things happened between them and how much chaos Wrigley’s siblings bring into their lives.

Things between George and Wrigley heat up extremely fast, which means they quickly move forward with every aspect of their relationship and for this reason, it was difficult to get my bearings on one situation and then have to keep moving forward to another one when I hadn’t fully understood the repercussions of the previous one, and because A LOT happens between them and as a result of other people’s actions, I needed more information, deeper insight, and more indication of why everything affected them the way they did.

The media/fans’ aspect of the story was absolutely necessary, and it was realistic, even as disgusting as it is for people to do the things the paparazzi do and the things fans say about people they don’t truly know. With social media as rampant as it is nowadays and the freedom it seems to allow people’s nasty inner critic to come out and freely share things that should remain unspoken, it’s not easy for professional athletes and the people they care about to not be raked over the coals for even the smallest on incidences.

The secondary characters are quite the contrasting group. George’s grandma is a hoot and I like how she tells it like it is. It’s easy to see how much she adores her grandson and how proud she is of him, and her relationship with Wrigley is something that Wrigley desperately needs and despite the less than stellar events that occur, that bond remains in tact. George and Wrigley’s siblings are complete asshats who seem to use the pair more than help them, and while George and Wrigley’s constant support of them illustrates the fact that they are good and compassionate people, I wanted George and Wrigley to wash their hands of the users, especially those responsible for making things between the couple so much harder than they would have been if these blood relatives would have had their own act together.

Furious George definitely lives up to his nickname, especially when things go to shit between him and Wrigley, and while he does make some mistakes along the way, Wrigley seems to be the more stubborn one of the duo, which makes their lives extremely difficult and it also makes for one frustrating and unpredictable journey to what readers hope is a happily ever after.

Blurb

As an NHL player, relationships haven’t been my thing. Shrouded in secrecy and speculation, they never last very long. But then that’s what happens when you require an NDA before the first date.

Until Charlene. She’s like a firefly. She’s elusive, and if you catch her she’ll burn bright, but keeping her trapped dulls her fire and dims her beauty.

I caught her. And as much as I might want to keep her, I’ll never put the lid on her jar. Not at the risk of losing her. So I’ve let her set the rules in our relationship.

But as long hidden secrets expose us both, I discover exactly how fragile Charlene is, and how much I need her.

We’re all broken. We’re all messed up. Some more than others. Me more than most.

My Review

All throughout Helena Hunting’s Pucked Series, she has provided small insights and brief details about who Charlene and Darren are as individuals and as a couple, and because of the limited information given, readers don’t really know these two characters very well. I mean…it’s clear that Charlene and Violet as well as Darren and Alex share incredible friendships and that they’ve both found a small group of friends who have become their family, but other than those facts and the random conversations that reveal a few more interesting tidbits, much about Charlene and Darren’s pasts and presents remain unknown, so heading into Pucked Love, I was beyond ready for Hunting to give me the dirt on both Charlene and Darren and gain so much needed information to fully picture exactly who these two characters are.

And BOY does Hunting give readers a complete character sketch of both of them, and despite the fact that I could have never imagined how messed up Charlene and Darren’s back stories would be or how their childhoods could singlehandedly be what’s preventing them from going ‘all-in’ with each other, Pucked Love delivers one amazing story that proves just how perfect Charlene and Darren are for one another and how their separate broken pieces fit so well when they are molded together.

My first piece of advice for readers heading into Charlene and Darren’s story is to not go into the story with any preconceived notions about them because regardless of what readers think they know about the hero and heroine, they’re not even close because what Hunting has provided readers with when it comes to Alex and Violet’s best friends only skims the surface of who these two characters are; the truth about them can only be provided through reading their story, told through their own perspective, and now that I’m finished with Pucked Love, I can unequivocally say that Charlene and Darren are right next to Violet and Alex as my favorite Pucked series characters.

Even though Charlene and Darren have been together for two years and have been friends with the other couples of the series for that time, both of them as well as all of their friends are more than aware of the fact that their relationship is not like the others, and while the opening scene of Pucked Love doesn’t bode well for Charlene’s friends’ counterparts’ views on Charlene and Darren’s connection, what they witnessed doesn’t shed the kind of the light on Charlene and Darren that the guys think it does, but it is the catalyst for the changes that begin to take place with these two extremely private and independent characters.

Darren Westinghouse is an intense and stoic man – one who prefers to live out of the spotlight and in a carefully constructed environment where he is in complete control. No one, not even Alex and especially Charlene, knows all of Darren’s sides because he only shows them what he wants them to see and anything that’s too personal, too messed up, or too extreme gets locked away in a place that he would much rather never dwell on again. But with the expansion draft, the playoffs, and a few unexpected encounters, Darren is going to need to bare all of his secrets and hope that once the truth is told that Charlene will still stand by him because even though he never truly acknowledged it, he loves Charlene with everything that he is and he refuses to give her up.

Once everything is laid out in the open, readers will understand just how amazing of a man Darren is and they’ll have a newfound respect for the man who lived through a messed up childhood that distorted his perception of everything associated with relationships and still managed to be a kick butt friend and hockey player and a more than giving and loving boyfriend even if his ways of showing it are rather unconventional.

I’ve always been intrigued by the close relationship that Charlene and Violet share. They seem like polar opposites but they’re each other’s constant and that will never change. Charlene’s childhood was just as jacked up as Darren’s but on opposite ends, and once Charlene’s truths are told/revealed, it’s more than clear as to why Charlene thrives on stability and independence and prefers to move forward with constancy, which means she doesn’t handle change well nor does she want to talk about her feelings or be vulnerable around anyone. The perception people have when it comes to Charlene is important to her; she doesn’t want to be seen as weird or different, even though that’s exactly who she is, and while there’s nothing wrong with Charlene, she cannot handle anyone knowing about her past because she’s afraid it will leave her with no-one and nothing.

I have to admit that Charlene’s hesitancies and refusal to change the dynamics of her relationship with Darren frustrated me way more than the backwards steps that Darren took, but that doesn’t mean I don’t understand why Charlene was so afraid; it’s just that Darren was more than trying and I just really wanted them both to see themselves as worthy of the other.

Hunting’s Pucked series is not just about the love between a couple; it’s also about the bond that is formed amongst friends, and in Pucked Love, it’s clear that the friendships that Darren has with his teammates and his small group of friends as well as the connection Charlene has with the women who she considers her tribe are crucial to their lives and responsible for helping both Darren and Charlene to see what they could have with each other if they’d only allow everyone in.

I absolutely LOVED EVERYTHING about Pucked Love! The thoughtful and sexy storyline, the strong friendships, the laugh out loud situations, the heartfelt moments, and the unique insights into who Charlene and Darren were and are. Sebastian York and Stella Bloom were perfect narrators for the story; they perfectly capture the hero and heroine’s idiosyncrasies and the mind games they have with themselves due to everything that has happened to them in their life.

The Pucked series is one of my favorite sports romance series of all time, and it’s due to Hunting’s storytelling, the way she crafts her characters, and her ability to create storylines that are full of steam, sass, and scandalous moments;)

Blurb

Stop. Leave me to my devices and go away. Just get off my back already, all right? You don’t know me, don’t know my situation. You don’t know the town I live in, the people I live with, the friends I own. Don’t hold me to your standards. Stop expecting the best from me. I’ve never been given the tools to be her.

So let me alone. Life’s easy when nothing expects so little of you. Easy is what I crave. Easy is what I do best. Let the world weep. What good could I possibly do them anyhow? Follow my lead and close your eyes. It’s effortless.

Stop asking about me. I’m okay with being no one, a nobody. I’m comfortable with this stagnant life. There’s nothing I stand to lose. I’ve taken no risks.

Life can’t be changed by simply doing nothing.

Can it?

I’m Lily Hahn and this is the story of how I went from a life of hollow nothing to a life of exhaustive agony and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

About QUIT YOUR PITCHIN’

What’s wrong with my butt?

She means those words to be directed toward the woman beside her, not him. But he can’t stop himself from answering. Not when her ass is the most magnificent thing he’s seen in his life.

Apparently, answering her with ‘not a damn thing’ wasn’t what she was expecting.

She likely wasn’t expecting the baseball she took to the face at his next at bat, either.

All it takes is one ill-fated foul ball, and George Hoffman, Lumberjacks center fielder, falls head over heels in love with Wrigley Field—and yes, that is her real name.

My Review
