Millions of people expecting her to fail.

But Reese wasn’t a novelty and the spot she landed on the New Orleans Steamers was one she planned to keep.

With her teammates giving her hell and the world doubting her every move, Reese will have to fight harder than anyone else to make her dream a reality.

Even if that means following the lead of Quarterback Ryder Glenn —the only man who brought her to the edge of ecstasy and the depths of heartbreak. The same man who broke her heart ten years before.

In this city, there is a thin line between sin and sainthood and only the strongest can walk it.

Eden Butler is an editor and writer of Mystery, Suspense and Contemporary Romance novels and the nine-times great-granddaughter of an honest-to-God English pirate. This could explain her affinity for rule breaking and rum.

When she’s not writing or wondering about her possibly Jack Sparrowesque ancestor, Eden patiently waits for her Hogwarts letter, edits, reads and spends way too much time watching rugby, Doctor Who and New Orleans Saints football.

She is currently living under teenage rule alongside her husband in southeast Louisiana.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW AND EXCERPT: A Wish For Us by Tillie Cole

Synopsis

From the author who brought you A Thousand Boy Kisses comes the new emotional novel, A Wish For Us.

A story of music. A story of healing. A story of love conquering all.

Nineteen-year-old Cromwell Dean is the rising star of electronic dance music. Thousands of people adore him. But no one knows him. No one sees the color of his heart.

Until the girl in the purple dress. She sees through the walls he has built to the empty darkness within.

When Cromwell leaves behind the gray skies of England to study music in the South Carolina heat, the last thing he expects is to see her again. And he certainly doesn’t expect that she’ll stay in his head like a song on repeat.

Bonnie Farraday lives for music. She lets every note into her heart, and she doesn’t understand how someone as talented as Cromwell can avoid doing the same. He’s hiding from his past, and she knows it. She tries to stay away from him, but something keeps calling her back.

Bonnie is the burst of color in Cromwell’s darkness. He’s the beat that makes her heart skip.

But when a shadow falls over Bonnie, it’s up to Cromwell to be her light, in the only way he knows how. He must help her find the lost song in her fragile heart. He must keep her strong with a symphony only he can compose.

A symphony of hope.
A symphony of love.
A symphony of them.

My Review

I’ve always believed in the positive power of music…that its melody and lyrics are restorative…that getting lost in its sounds and its words heal the soul and the heart in unimaginable ways…

But, I also understand music’s darker side…the one that allows cries of pain to get lost in the cacophony of noises…the one that forces emotions to swirl out of control…the one that hides the torment of the soul.

Music most definitely has the power to heal…the power to soothe…the power to lift up spirits in a way that words alone cannot always accomplish, but music also has the power to undo a person’s carefully constructed life in a way that he can’t come back from because he becomes lost to the array of feelings brought forth and he becomes their prisoner and loses the battle.

The dichotomy of music has never been articulated better than in the beliefs of Cromwell Dean and Bonnie Farraday. At the beginning of A Wish For Us, music for Cromwell is tormenting, agonizing, and too emotional; it forces him to open himself completely and feel all that it has to show him, and that’s not something, given his past, that he feels he’s able to endure. For Bonnie, music is EVERYTHING; it’s a bevy of sounds, words, and feelings that are meant to be experienced FULLY, offering one’s mind and heart to where music leads it. That’s not to say that Bonnie doesn’t struggle with keeping her beat…her melody…her song alive when life tries to overpower them, because she does…it’s just that when that happens, knowing that she has someone in her corner…someone who understands music’s intricacies and its limitless possibilities, she’s able to endure…able to reconnect in a way that binds her soul with his and that’s not something that can be destroyed easily given the fact that the songs somehow find a way to play on.

Tillie Cole writes Cromwell and Bonnie’s story in such a way that makes it impossible to not feel every single one of the emotions that are felt by the characters throughout the course of the book; there’s nothing about A Wish For Us that feels fabricated…that feels contrived…that feels unoriginal, and it’s because of Cole’s ingenuity when it comes to the construction of her plot line, of her characters, of the drama infused into the story line that weaves the story’s lessons…its beauty…its darkness and its lightness around readers’ hearts and souls, pleading with us to understand its teachings about life, about love, and about music.

Cromwell and Bonnie’s story is meant to be more than simply read; it’s meant to be EXPERIENCED; it’s meant to be entered into with an open mind and an open heart, which means that going in blind…not reading reviews…not forming opinions based on other readers’ assessments is the only way that readers can truly visualize and accept all that the story offers, especially when things get difficult for the story’s characters and the possibilities of how everything will be resolved aren’t quite clear.

4.5 Poison Apples

Excerpt

I let the rush of nicotine fill my lungs and closed my eyes. As my eyelids shut, I heard quiet music playing somewhere nearby. Classical. Mozart. My drunken mind immediately drifted off to when I was a little kid . . . “What do you hear, Cromwell?” my father asked. I closed my eyes and listened to the piece of music. Colors danced before my eyes. “Piano. Violins. Cellos . . .” I took a deep breath. “I can hear reds and greens and pinks.” I opened my eyes and looked up at my father as he sat on my bed. He was staring down at me. There was a funny expression on his face. “You hear colors?” he said. But he didn’t sound surprised. My face set on fire. I ducked my head under my duvet. My father pulled it down from my eyes. He stroked my hair. “That’s good,” he said, his voice kind of deep. “That’s very good . . .” My eyes snapped open. My hand started to ache. I looked at the bottle in my hand; my fingers were white as they gripped the neck. I sat up, my head spinning from the mass of whiskey in my body. My temples throbbed. I realized it wasn’t from the Jack, but from the music coming from further down the beach. I pushed my hair back from my face then looked to my right. Someone was only a few feet away. I squinted into the lightening night, summer’s early rising sun making it possible to make out the features of whoever the hell it was. It was a girl. A girl wrapped in a blanket. Her phone sat beside her, a Mozart piano concerto drifting quietly from the speaker. She must have felt me looking at her, because she turned her head. I frowned, wondering why I knew her face, but then—“You’re the DJ,” she said. Recognition dawned. It was the girl in the purple dress. She clutched her blanket closer around her as I replayed her accent in my head. American. Bible Belt was my guess, by her thick twang. She sounded like my mum. A smile tugged at her lips as I stayed mute. I wasn’t much of a talker. Especially when my gut was full of Jack and I had zero interest in making small talk with some girl I didn’t know at four in the morning on a cold beach in Brighton. “I’d heard of you,” she said. I stared back out over the sea. Ships sailed in the distance, their lights like tiny fireflies, bobbing up and down. I huffed a humorless laugh. Great. Another girl who wanted to screw the DJ. “Good for you,” I muttered and took a drink of my Jack, feeling the addictive burn slide down my throat. I hoped she’d piss off, or at least stop trying to talk to me. My head couldn’t take any more noise. “Not really,” she shot back. I looked over at her, eyebrows pulled down in confusion. She was looking out over the sea, her chin resting on her folded arms that lay over her bent knees. The blanket had fallen off her shoulders, revealing the purple dress I’d noticed from the podium. She turned to face me, cheek now on her arms. Heat zipped through me. She was pretty. “I’ve heard of you, Cromwell Dean.” She shrugged. “Decided to get a ticket to see you before I left for home tomorrow.” I lit up another cigarette. Her nose wrinkled. She clearly didn’t like the smell. Tough luck. She could move. Last time I checked, England was a free country. She went quiet. I caught her looking at me. Her brown eyes were narrowed, like she was scrutinizing me. Reading something in me that I didn’t want anyone to see. No one ever looked at me closely. I never gave them the chance. I thrived on the podium at clubs because it kept everyone far away, down on the dancefloor where no one ever saw the real me. The way she was looking at me now made nervous shivers break out over my skin. I didn’t need this kind of crap. “Already had my dick sucked tonight, love. Not looking for a second round.” She blinked, and even in the rising sun, I could see her cheeks redden. “Your music has no soul,” she blurted. My cigarette paused halfway to my mouth. Something managed to stab through my stomach at her words. I shoved it back down until I felt my usual sensation of numbness. I sucked on my cigarette. “Yeah? Well, them’s the breaks.” “I’d heard you were some messiah or something on that podium. But all your music comprised was synthetic beats and forced repetitive bursts of unoriginal tempo.” I laughed and shook my head. The girl met my eyes head-on. “It’s called electronic dance music. Not a fifty-piece orchestra.” I held out my arms. “You’ve heard of me. Said so yourself. You know what tunes I spin. What were you expecting? Mozart?” I glared at her phone, which was still playing that damn concerto. I sat back, surprised at myself. I hadn’t talked that much to anyone in . . . I didn’t know how long. I took in a drag, breathing out the smoke that was trapped in my chest. “And turn that thing off, will you? Who the hell goes to hear a dance DJ spin, then comes to a beach to listen to classical music?” The girl frowned but turned off the music. I lay back on the cold sand, closing my eyes. I heard the soft waves lapping the shore. My head filled with pale green. I heard the girl moving. I prayed she was leaving. But I felt her drop beside me. My world darkened as the whiskey and the usual lack of sleep started to pull me under. “What do you feel when you mix your music?” she asked. How the hell she thought her little interview was a good idea right now was beyond me. Yet, surprisingly, I found myself answering her question. “I don’t feel.” I cracked one eye open when she didn’t say anything. She was looking down at me. She had the biggest brown eyes I’d ever seen. Dark hair pulled off her face in a ponytail. Full lips and smooth skin. “Then that’s the problem.” She smiled, but the smile looked nothing but sad. Pitying. “The best music must be felt. By the creator. By the listener. Every part of it from creation to ear must be wrapped in nothing but feelings.” Some weird expression crossed over her face, but hell if I knew what it meant. Her words were a blade to my chest. I hadn’t expected her harsh comment. And I hadn’t expected the blunt trauma that she seemed to deliver right to my heart. Like she’d taken a butcher’s knife and sliced her way through my soul. My body itched to get up and run. To pluck out her assessment of my music from my memory. But instead I forced a laugh, and spat, “Go back home, little Dorothy. Back to where music means something. Where it’s felt.” “Dorothy was from Kansas.” She glanced away. “I’m not.” “Then go back to wherever the hell you’re from,” I snapped. Crossing my arms over my chest, I hunkered down into the sand and shut my eyes, trying to block out the cold wind that was picking up and slapping my skin, and her words that were still stabbing at my heart. I never let anything get to me like this. Not anymore. I just needed some sleep. I didn’t want to go back to my mum’s house here in Brighton, and my flat in London was too far away. So hopefully the cops wouldn’t find me here and kick me off the beach. With my eyes closed, I said, “Thanks for the midnight critique, but as the fastest-rising DJ in Europe, with the best clubs in the world begging for me to spin at their decks—all at nineteen—I think I’ll ignore your extensive notes and just keep on living my sweet as fuck life.”

Excerpt

The three-day journey took a toll on Puck. No campsites, no food or water. At least he managed to avoid the rifts leading to traps.

Finally, he reached the sand tower. The Oracles lived up top, with a view of…everything. Too weak to climb, Puck used the last of his magic to create a sand staircase.

He needed to acquire more magic, which meant he would have to kill someone, and soon.

Should he slay one of the Oracles? History claimed the trio created Amaranthia as a safe haven for anyone with magical inclinations. Their supply of magic must be limitless, even unending.

At one time, the thought of harming a female would have disgusted him. Now? Possessed by the demon of Indifference? Bring it. A source was a source.

Business first. As he stepped onto the upper level without rails or walls he discovered three females standing together, each draped from breast to thigh in colorful scarfs. A fine, dark mist obscured their faces.

In lieu of a greeting, he said, “You know why I’m here.” They must. “How do I regain what’s mine? Freedom from the demon. The Connacht crown. Unification for the clans. Protection for my realm. Sin’s black heart on a golden platter. Princess Alannah.”

He would take her as his due.

As winds grew more violent, the women asked in unison, “What is our credo, Puck the Undefeated?”

All of Amaranthia learned their credo from the crib. Nothing given, nothing gained. The more personal the gift, the more detailed the answer.

What was more personal than his blackened heart?

Will be unable to render a kill afterward.

Worth it.

Determined, he withdrew a dagger from a sheath at his waist and thrust the blade into his rib cage. Warm blood poured down his chest. Pain devoured his strength with the same tenacity as Indifference, scorching every nerve ending in his body. Eventually his knees gave out. But even as he fell, he continued to hack through muscle and bone. Finally, success.

As an immortal, he would recover…soonish. Here and now, his mind would remain conscious for a minute, maybe two. Plenty of time to get what he needed. Sin had taught him well: the entire course of your life could change between one breath and another.

With a flick of his wrist, the still-beating heart rolled toward the Oracles. Twitters of acceptance rang out, followed by voices, one Oracle speaking after the other.

“You love our home, our people, despite your…limitations. But what has been spoken cannot be undone. What is to happen, will happen.”

“One prophecy can work alongside another, and what was can be made right.”

“To save us all, wed the girl who belongs to William of the Dark…she is the key…”

“Bring your wife to our lands and lead the dark one here after. Only the male who will live or die for the girl has the power to dethrone Sin the Demented.”

When had his brother earned the moniker “the Demented”?

“Only then shall you have all you desire.”

“But do not forget Ananke’s shears, for they are necessary…” Together the Oracles whispered, “There is no other way.” In the ensuing quiet, Puck’s thoughts whirled. William of the Dark. He’d never heard of him, or the girl the male would “live or die for.” The two needed to be brought to Amaranthia, one after the other. Very well.

As a heavy gloom toyed with the edges of his mind, he ordered and set his tasks.

Find William of the Dark. Wed the girl he loves. War with Sin.

One prophecy would not supersede the other. Instead, the two would work in tandem. Meaning, William would not kill Sin, would only dethrone him. The rest would be up to Puck.

Nothing would stop him from completing each task. William. Wed. War. One day, Puck would wear the Connacht crown, save his people and unite the clans.

Finally the gloom stopped toying and started devouring, swallowing him whole. He knew nothing more.

EXCERPT REVEAL: CHASING HIM by Kennedy Fox

John Bishop isn’t your typical single dad.

Reserved, impatient, and utterly clueless.

Running the family’s bed and breakfast has many perks. Working long hours, picking up after the guests, and hearing couples going at it all night long aren’t any of them. Hooking up with girls who come to the ranch for horseback riding lessons? Best perk of them all.

That is until a baby shows up at his doorstep with a note claiming it’s his. Growing up on a ranch was anything but easy, but raising a newborn is proving to be the hardest task he’ll ever tackle. Leaving the bachelor life behind, his only priority is to hire a nanny who can teach him a thing or two about parenting—except he doesn’t anticipate her being gorgeous and quirky with an unhealthy football obsession.

Mila Carmichael has many talents—making balloon animals, creating origami art, and remaining in the friend zone. Often seen as one of the guys, she’s struck out more times than a rookie baseball player.

Seeking a new adventure, she flies to Texas to visit family and is offered a position she can’t refuse. Helping out a new dad should come easy to her, considering her past experience, but what she doesn’t anticipate is him being an attractive Southern temptation.

But that’s only the beginning.

While growing close to his family and falling madly in love with the baby girl who’s stealing their hearts, things are bound to get complicated. Everyone knows not to mix business with pleasure. That means no late movie nights, no stolen glances, and definitely no kissing behind closed doors. Too bad the universe has other plans—one that’ll threaten taking away the main thing that binds them together.

Excerpt

John’s POV

It’s been three days since Mila started working for me and so far she’s been a complete blessing. I know Maize’s in safe keeping and that’s all I’ve ever wanted though I can’t say I’m getting any more sleep.

After lunch, I fall asleep again and this time I’m woken up by a guest bitching about a toilet issue. Usually, I’m friendly and have a smile plastered on my face, but honestly, I’m pissed. Mama caught wind of me snapping at someone and practically threatened to fire me, which I know would never happen, but it was a wake up call that I need more sleep at night and that’s not going to happen until Maize is sleeping in longer stretches. Any little noise I hear, I’m wide awake and then I can barely fall back asleep. By the time I do, it’s time to get up for work. I feel as if I could sleep for a week straight.

After falling asleep for the third time today, I force myself to stand the rest of my shift. I’ve had so many ridiculous things happen today that I swear it’s Friday the thirteenth. By the time I make it home, I’m so fucking exhausted that I can barely keep my eyes open. When I walk in, I see Jackson flirting with Mila and it annoys the fuck out of me.

“Jackson, kitchen,” I bark when Mila walks into the room to check on Maize.

“What?” He looks at me, slyly.

Leaning against the counter, I cross my arms over my chest and give it to him straight. “Listen. There’s a few rules you need to adhere too.”

He sarcastically nods his head, which pisses me off further.

“Don’t look at my nanny like that ever again.”

“Like what?” he asks.

I narrow my eyes because he knows damn well what I’m talking about. “I don’t need you scaring her away and leaving me without help. So don’t hit on my nanny. Don’t flirt with her, ask her out, and don’t you dare fuck my nanny.”

He arches a brow and crosses his arms as if to ask if I’m done—as if to challenge me on everything I just listed.

“Basically, stay away from my nanny. Got it?”

Jackson bursts out into laughter. He’s doubled over trying to catch his breath but I’m as serious as a heart attack, ready to punch him in the chest and threaten his life if he breaks my rules.

“Why? Are you fucking her?” he asks, laughing with amusement. “God knows you’re worse than me.”

“No. Hell no. Those rules are for everyone, and if you break them, I’ll break your fucking neck.”

He leans over and whispers loud enough for just me to hear. “But you want to.”

My Review

Can a person’s life change in just 30 seconds? Can a person who has been buried in pain for seven long years find a way to move on…to live life fully after being held down by fear, regret, and guilt for an abundance of time? Can a man who is used to getting what he wants by simply being himself put the effort in to get beneath a woman’s perfectly constructed mask and see her for more than just a sexual release? Can two broken people wake one another up and prove to each other that their ‘more’ doesn’t have to cripple them or keep them at arm’s length from everyone?

Harper Sloan goes back to her writing roots in her new Hearts of Vegas series; Unconscious Hearts brings the steam, drama, and suspense that fans of Sloan have come to adore about her storytelling, and Ari Daniels and Thorn Evans are two dynamic main characters who find everything they never knew they wanted and needed in one another.

Ari is definitely my kind of heroine. She’s been through hell, but she still endures…she still gets through the day, and even though she’s sometimes crippled by the memories of what’s been done to her, stuck in the aftermath of other people’s words and deeds, with a little push from her best friend and some soul searching, she takes the risk to open her heart again, hoping against hope that Thorn Evans will not break her heart but rather free it from the prison it’s been in for the past 7 years.

Thorn is an alpha male to his core, and while sometimes, his actions and behavior is over the top, there are reasons behind his overbearing and arrogant ways. He brings Ari back to life; he helps her to heal…to see herself as the beautiful person that she is. He gives her back her life…her desire…her confidence, and each and every day, Thorn proves just how special she is to him and how she can count on his love and his devotion to her.

I loved witnessing Ari and Thorn’s journey – one that began with an instant attraction and a 30 second bet that categorically changed both of their lives for the better. The insights readers receive as Ari and Thorn define and redefine their relationship allows us to understand what’s at stake for both of them and why they’re willing to take a risk with each other when they’ve never wanted to in the past. The things that this couple must encounter are not easy, but the fact that they hold steadfast to one another speaks to what they’re building and how everything is different now that they’ve found each other, which makes the fact that they’re fighters all the more important for what they’re confronted with through Unconscious Hearts.

I can’t write a review of this book without mentioning the secondary characters and their influence and effect on Ari and Thorn. Ari’s best friend, Piper, and Wilder, a man who has been by Thorn’s side since they were young play pivotal roles in Ari and Thorn’s lives. These two people are instrumental in forcing their best friends to face their pasts in order to see and understand that their futures don’t have to be anything like their lives have been, and it’s Piper’s constancy at Ari’s side…Piper’s ability to be honest with her long-time friend and push Ari to confront her heartbreak and stop using it as a crutch to remain in neutral when it comes to moving forward and finally living again.

Unconscious Hearts is told from both Ari and Thorn’s perspectives, so readers get their backstories, their truths, their honest feelings firsthand, which is necessary in order to understand the choices these two have made and what seems to be holding them back from love and from life.

I can’t wait for book two in Harper Sloan’s Las Vegas Hearts series, and I’m hoping that Piper and Wilder’s story is up next because those two have been dancing around each other since their first encounter, and while I know there are obstacles standing in their way, they both deserve happiness, which I think they can find in one another!

His eyes get hard for a beat before his features smooth back out. “Yeah, beyond sure. No one to pass this shit down to, and even if there was, I wouldn’t be givin’ someone ideas of materialistic bullshit if I did. More to life than all this shit.”

“Okay, well, in that case …” I cough, not wanting to fight with him about our views when it comes to expensive wants versus needs. Last time I tried to argue the benefits of learning to care for and value something you work hard to buy, I had a black eye for almost two weeks. “In that case, I’m prepared to offer you a lump sum as a buyout for the whole collection, but I also want to mention, again, that consignment would be a more lucrative approach. Our buyout is just a standard percent of resale value, but consignment would allow us to mark up each to give you a larger profit.”

“Told you, babe, want it gone. I don’t give a shit about making it more lucrative. Look around you, hardly hurting.”

“Still, it’s my obligation to make sure you’re informed.”

“Consider me informed.”

“Okay … so I can offer a tentative amount of three million. I would need more time to inspect each item in depth for any defects that could affect the value and also to research a few pieces I feel may be limited editions so that could also affect the value. Meaning that amount could go up or down, but I wouldn’t expect it to be less than two point five or more than four point seven-ish. I wouldn’t need but maybe five days tops, and I can come during the day if that works better for your schedule.”

“You get this gone in two days, and I’ll take one mil.”

My whole body jerks back as if I had been slapped, staring at him like he was absolutely insane.

“That’s absolutely insane,” I tell him, voicing my thoughts.

“No, that’s me not giving a shit and wanting it gone so I can get out of this place and sell it and all this shit some hand with care placed around each room. Woulda left this shit in and sold it with the house, but for some reason I’ll never understand, you’re here, and I still just want it gone. You don’t need five days when I’m taking a two mil hit, babe. That would waste your time and mine, and I’m not a huge fan of wasting my time. Way I see it, you win, and I get a cold mil for some shit I didn’t buy nor care about. So you get this shit outta here, and all I need is that.”

“Thorn, I can’t in good conscience accept that.”

“Then dirty that conscience up and laugh your tight little ass all the way to the bank. Don’t give a shit as long as it’s gone, and I don’t have to do anything to make it that way.”

“This is insanity.”

“Insanity would be tossing it all at the Goodwill drop-off. I’m making money. You’re making money. Only thing sweeter than making money is doing it while I’m getting my cock wet, and babe, that only happens when my stock rises at the same time my cock does.” He steps closer, and I back into the island, my chest burning as I hold my breath. “Course, never had four mil worth of shit to sell to a woman who makes my cock rise without even trying.”

“Thorn,” I whisper, placing my hand against his hard chest with the intention of pushing him back. Only, the second his warmth burns through his shirt and hits my skin, I can’t move an inch.

“Ari,” he mocks, his eyes bright.

“I, uh, the paperwork …” I close my eyes and focus on my breaths and the words my mouth can’t seem to form. When my heart slows enough that I won’t die of a heart attack right here in heaven, I look back up at him. “You’re breaking my brain, Thorn. Please step back so I can think clearly without my body trying to die on me.”

The corners of his eyes crinkle as he continues to gaze down at me, but he does step back. My arm falling down to my side.

“As much as I wish I could have this room cleared out for you tomorrow, it will take at least until late Monday. I’ll need to meet with you beforehand to have some legal paperwork signed for the sale due to its size. But my lawyer is an old family friend, so I can have that by tomorrow around dinnertime, if you wouldn’t mind meeting me to take care of that. I won’t be able to get the cashier’s check until after those are signed, so late Monday is the best I can offer you.”

“Want this shit gone, but it’s hardly a hardship to wait a few more days if that means I’ve got a few more opportunities to try to make you want me as much as you want this shit around you,” he says, his deep voice thick with desire.

“Good heavens, you don’t stop, do you?”

“Not unless you beg, babe.”

“I think it’s best we went back to keeping things professional, Mr. Evans.”

This time, it isn’t a ghost of a smile on his lips. Oh, no. Not this time. If I thought he was handsome before this moment, I was a fool. Because Thorn Evans giving you his full, unhindered smile and a gaze so thick with unspoken promise as it washes over you and creates a fire of the desire you already felt … well, that expression on him turns him from sinfully hot to heart-stopping and irresistible instantly.

“It would take me five minutes to get you to beg me for it, Ms. Daniels. Admit it.”

Offended at the thought that I’m easy, I narrow my eyes. Finally. At least anger is an emotion I’ve had plenty of practice dealing with. “I’m not sure what kind of women you’re used to, but I promise you, I am not that type of woman.”

“Maybe three,” he oddly says, ignoring me.

“Three, what?” I snap.

“Minutes, sweetness. Three minutes and you’d be begging me for all this shit and my cock.”

My mouth flounders, and I gasp.

“Though, pretty sure I could get that in less than a minute and get you doin’ all the work while I watch from my back.”

My arm is up, palm cracking against his cheek before I have the ability to do anything to stop it. “I think we’re done here.”

I walk around him, ready to find my way out and let him find someone else to take all of this off his hands even if it kills a little part of my lux loving soul. When his hand curls around my bicep—not painfully, but firm enough to make me stop—I look over my shoulder with a frown. For a man who was just slapped, he looks almost gleeful.

“One minute, Ari. Give me a minute and if you aren’t ready to beg me for it, when those sixty seconds are up, you can take this shit and not give me a penny for it.”

Walk away, Ari. Walk. Away. No amount of money is worth being some man’s whore.

Spinning away from his hold, I jerk my arm free and step toward him with a roll up to my toes, getting my face as close to his as I can. His scent overwhelms me. The subtle notes of his cologne fog my rational thought, making me drunk with need, and I sway slightly before correcting myself.

“Thirty seconds,” I retort, my jaw tight with stubbornness.

I’m not sure who I shocked more—him or me. I have my answer, though, when I see victory flash in his eyes. Oh, my God … what have I done?

“You’re on,” he agrees, his eyes alight with the promise backed up by his devilish grin.

I nod, incapable of anything more. I stand there in shocked silence as he takes my phone, his thick fingers moving quickly over the screen. I vaguely hear a chime from his pocket and before I can so much as blink, he’s handing me my things.

“Tomorrow, I’ll text you. Paperwork first, then you beg.”

I gulp, jerk my head in what I hope resembles a nod of agreement, and then … I flee.

Praise for Unexpected Love Story

An enemies-to-lovers romance with epic chemistry, fantastic banter, and passion that practically explodes off the page. It’s fun, feisty, sexy and beautifully heartfelt, and I loved every moment!

– Aj The escapist Book Blog

I finished this book in a couple hours, devouring every sentence, every page Natasha gifted the world with, until it was over and I was crying happy tears.

– Cait’s Creatures

Unexpected Love was just that unexpected. The storyline at times has some heartbreaking moments for both characters that made you want to hug both of them.

-Melissa BookSmacked

It’s always interesting watching two people, who clearly share an attraction, attempt to fight their feelings, refusing to open their hearts again due to a past that’s made them swear off the opposite sex. But a connection like Gabe and Crystal have is not something that will remain dormant, so try as they might, their unexpected love story is ready to be told, so these two need to be ready to help heal each other like they do with the patients that enter their doors.

Gabe and Crystal learned the hard way that love isn’t worth the heartache that comes with it, but fate seems to be testing their resolve when they come face-to-face again, bringing the memories of their one-night stand to the forefront and making it incredibly difficult to not give in to the sexual chemistry that was evident throughout their one night together and hums between them every time they cross each other’s paths, which is quite frequently due to the nature of their jobs as well as the small community they reside.

I don’t usually sign up to read/review the second book in a series when I haven’t read the first one yet, but because I’ve heard such amazing things about Natasha Madison’s storytelling and the ease in which she writes the perfect blend of witty, steamy, and dramatic scenes, I knew I needed to make an exception and dive into Gabe and Crystal’s story, and I’m so glad that I did. Madison does a great job setting up the storyline and exploring the number of ways that one person’s deception has affected a significant amount of lives, leaving them picking up the pieces and finding a way to move forward when it seems impossible.

Crystal is the perfect woman for Gabe, even if he refuses to admit it; she’s intelligent, an amazing nurse, and she doesn’t allow Gabe’s broodiness to get the better of her. She holds her own around everyone and has enough sass and sarcasm to keep those around her on their toes, especially a certain doctor who acts like she’s a pain in his ass when, in reality, their battles make him want to strip her bare and reexamine every part of Crystal’s body that he once had the pleasure of exploring. I can’t blame Gabe for his negative feelings when it comes to women; his ex broke his heart, but it’s clear that Crystal can help heal it, but only if they’re both willing to risk their hearts again and stop keeping one another at arm’s length.

Gabe and Crystal’s story focuses on more than just the push and pull between them; there are issues that have to be dealt with that involve some of the secondary characters in the book, and while some readers who have already read book one may not need the insight/recap that is provided, this time, from Crystal’s point of view, it helped me understand the dynamics of certain relationships and the reasons behind Crystal’s decision to move and how it helps those characters closest to her.

Unexpected Love Story is a great read with just the right amount of angst, humor, and sizzle. I enjoyed the camaraderie amongst the Walker family as well as the tight bonds between Gabe and Crystal and their friends.

I made it a point this year to read new-to-me authors and Natasha Madison is definitely one I’m glad I was introduced to, and I can’t wait to checkout more of her stories!
