RELEASE TOUR REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY: KNEEL by Eden Butler

Title: Kneel

Series: God of Rock #1

Author: Eden Butler

Genre: Erotic Rockstar Romance

Release: November 28, 2017

Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36246129-kneel

Dash Justice wrote the songs everyone sings.

His face hangs on every girl’s wall. But Dash wasn’t always a rock God.

Once, he was just Jamie, the boy I loved.

But when my name, sung from his lips promises I was good for only one thing, all sweet thoughts of him die.

Now his excuses mean nothing. His promises are weak and I’m about to show the world that even rock Gods can be brought to their knees.

I always have to prepare myself when I’m about to read an Eden Butler romance because I know that my emotions are going to be all over the place due to the amount of angst that is usually infused into her storylines and the dumbass decisions that her hero and heroine make without truly thinking about the consequences of their actions.

And this is exactly what readers must process as they read the first book in Butler’s new God of Rock series because Iris and Jamie/Dash embrace the disdain and hatred they feel for one another when they come face to face after many years of zero communication. And, let me tell you, as much as they adored each other during their teen years is as much as they loathe one another now; even after all the time that has passed, the bitterness is still present…the anger is still active, and the need to make each other pay for their parts in what occurred all those years ago is always at the forefront of their minds, which means that any hope for a reconciliation or a cease fire will more than likely be short-lived because there’s just too much pain to process in such a short amount of time when they reconnect all those years later.

It’s amazing to witness Jamie/Dash’s transformation from awkward teen to infamous rock god. In the flashbacks, Jamie’s an ordinary guy who’s a bit squirrely but incredibly sweet and he sees Iris for who she is and what she brings to his life. But then events occur that destroy the bond that Jamie and Iris had forged and everything seems to spiral out of control, fracturing their relationship and ensuring that the only feelings they have left for each other are ones of hatred and regret.

Because Kneel is told solely in Iris’ point of view, readers understand Iris’ decisions and the thought process behind each and every action she takes and word she says, which makes her an extremely likeable heroine – one who is driven and feisty and unafraid to fight for what she wants and for what is right. But because the scope of Iris’ perspective is a bit skewed, at least when it comes to her feelings for present-day Dash, I feel like the only way readers can truly assess the situation as a whole is by looking at his actions and words spoken aloud, which is not always a true representation of who a character is at his core.

Iris and Jamie/Dash’s story has just begun in Kneel and now that Butler has provided readers with much needed insight into the past they shared as well as the choices they made while apart, it’s clear that their unfinished business is still influx and for either of them to move on, whether it be separately, as friends, or as a second chance to be lovers, it’s hard to say how everything is going to turn out, especially with what goes down at the end of book 1.

I have to admit that I’m not the biggest fan of angst, but I never turn down an ARC by Eden Butler because she’s an amazing storyteller whose words create dynamically flawed characters as well as plot lines that cohesively transition between the characters’ past and present as she tries to truly capture the feelings of her heroes and heroines as they proceed to break and mend their hearts as well as those they love because they can’t quite get it right the first time they get the chance.

I’m so ready for Butler and Iris to bring this rock god down to his knees, and if I was Iris, I’d make him work for every inch he gains to be a part of her life and perhaps her bed after the events of their past and the illogical decisions that got him into this mess in the first place.

Eden Butler is an editor and writer of Mystery, Suspense and Contemporary Romance novels and the nine-times great-granddaughter of an honest-to-God English pirate. This could explain her affinity for rule breaking and rum.

When she’s not writing or wondering about her possibly Jack Sparrowesque ancestor, Eden patiently waits for her Hogwarts letter, edits, reads and spends way too much time watching rugby, Doctor Who and New Orleans Saints football.

She is currently living under teenage rule alongside her husband in southeast Louisiana.

And we have no intention of losing.

Review

When the sacrifices are too high…when a broken past is all that exists…when the bitterness and hurt feelings still remain…that’s when people need to decide if putting everything on the line for a second choice is worth the price they might pay in both their personal and professional lives, and most of the time, it’s never a black and white situation, which means there’s a middle ground between right and wrong, and that’s exactly where readers find the hero and heroine in Jen McLaughlin’s newest release, On The Line.

There’s a lot to be dealt with in Ben and Sarah’s story, and because it’s a rather short novel, the pace moves quickly. There are 10 years of bitterness and hurt to wade through, but that actually happens fairly soon in the story, which I was happy about because I hate it when miscommunications and dealing with past pain is drawn out simply to create unneeded angst. McLaughlin makes it known that Ben and Sarah’s current issues are more important than what happened all those years ago; they are not the same people they were when abrupt decisions were made, so while some may think their past issues were resolved too easily, what they dealing with in present-day due to their duties as police officers as well as the mayhem that Sarah’s ex is causing are of higher importance than their hurt feelings from their teenage years.

Ben and Sarah’s story is a bit of a slow burn in the sense that their relationship status seems to be in limbo for most of the story; at first, they’re partners who don’t want to be paired then as the story progresses, their dynamics change a number of times and the push and pull of their attraction as well as their dormant feelings for one another continue to play on their decisions as to how far past the line they’re willing to go.

RELEASE BLITZ PROMO AND REVIEW: VAN by Sawyer Bennett

Van (Cold Fury, Book #9)
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: November 28, 2017

Synopsis

Score one for the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team as a stone-cold badass melts for a woman who makes his blood run hot.

As one of the league’s toughest enforcers, Van Turner is ruthless on the ice. He plays hard because it’s the only way to channel the rage boiling inside, and a reputation as an A-hole is better than everyone knowing the truth. Van has spent his entire life running from a secret that’s kept him from getting involved in relationships—or accepting lucrative deals with East Coast teams. Then the Carolina Cold Fury makes him an offer he can’t refuse . . . and Van meets a woman he can’t resist.

Simone Fournier is the stubborn one in her family—and that’s saying something, considering her brothers are two of the Cold Fury’s biggest stars. Simone gets what she wants, and what she wants is Van. Still, there’s a part of him Simone can’t reach, no matter how hard she tries. In private, he’s all fire and passion. In public, he freezes her out. Van may want to push her away, but Simone won’t let him go that easily. Because this time, she’s playing for keeps.

Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling Carolina Cold Fury series can be read together or separately.

Review

Rude. Closed Off. Weird. Introvert. A-hole.

This is the type of man that Van Turner portrays himself to be, not only on the ice as an Enforcer for the Carolina Cold Fury, but also in his private life because he’s unwilling to allow anyone past the impenetrable wall he’s constructed. Van’s a pro at icing people out of his life, and because no one’s willing to look past his cold exterior, he lives a solitary life.

But Van’s cool demeanor is about to be turned upside down by a woman who is a relentless flirt and stubborn enough to penetrate his defenses one sexual innuendo at a time.

Simone Fournier is probably one of the most aggressive and outspoken heroines that I’ve encountered since delving into the romance genre, and I have to admit that it was a little off putting at the beginning. A lot of the time this type of behavior is portrayed by the other woman/women who want(s) the hero’s attention and is willing to throw herself/themselves at her/their male conquest regardless of how desperate she/they appear(s). But as Sawyer Bennett continues to explore who Simone is and how she became the self-assured woman who she is, I understood Simone’s personality better and her words and actions made perfect sense to me when it came to dealing with a tortured soul like Van Turner.

It also took me a bit to warm up to Van’s character, which actually caught me off guard because I usually adore Sawyer Bennett’s alpha males, even the assholes who have never seen women as more than a good time. I’m not sure if it was because Van was so withdrawn and so introverted that I couldn’t get a good read on him or if my initial judgment was skewed based on how blunt he had to be in order to sidestep Simone’s advances.

As Van and Simone’s story continues, though, Bennett provides much needed insight into what Van had to deal with growing up and how his view of himself forced him to become a bit of a recluse and an extremely private person.

Both Van and Simone are stubborn as hell, so it’s interesting to watch them circle around each other, both refusing to be the loser of this seductive power play, but once Van gives into his attraction and allows lust to fog his brain, he finds that Simone just might be the one person capable of being his biggest supporter even when she learns the truth that he has fought to hide for many years.

Sawyer Bennett’s Cold Fury Hockey series is one of my absolute favorites. Each hero and heroine has a unique personality and the couple’s story line is always completely different from its predecessors, which is sometimes difficult to accomplish in a series that has already released 8 players’ stories.  And while Van and Simone’s story wasn’t one of my favorites, I still enjoyed the push and pull between them and the way Simone interacted with her big brothers who just happen to both be members of the Carolina Cold Fury just like the man who she wants to be ‘shiny’ for, for the rest of her life.

Excerpt

Cortisol muddies my blood and the urgency of survival bleeds into my every cell. Adrenaline is coursing and I launch for the hand holding the gun, gripping his wrist and aiming it up, doing everything I can in an epic struggle with my nemesis, crunching and writhing over gravel in a bid to secure my next breath.

I finally gain the upper hand, with leverage because he’s under me, straining against his power, pissed off beyond belief that he’s of my stature and strength. Bending his hand back until the first song of bones fracturing choruses into the unhallowed evening, he gives me the second of slack I need.

I punch and punch and punch, unleashing every atom of hatred in my bitter heart, pulverising the almighty champion boxer into a bloodied mass of fragmenting bone. His cheekbone gives and I’m fucking overjoyed that this prat gets to feel pain!

It was my daily bread, it was my manna, and it’s my duty to deliver to him his portion of my share. I pound on him until there’s no resistance left, until my knuckles are so bloodied and throbbing that I may well need a cast.

The stranger’s hand goes limp under the onslaught of my wrath, dropping his gun after I repeatedly smash his wrist into the asphalt.

I’m breathing like a rabid animal, my lungs searing, and finally I realise I broke his wrist. He’s not moving.

Staggering backward, dazed and crazed, I have the sense of mind to check his pulse.

He lives.

How unfortunate.

Review

‘What woman in the world could resist Mr. Darcy?’

The answer seems to be no one, especially when Jax Hawthorne, British native and Hollywood movie star, sets to star as the swoon-worthy, honest, and self-assured character in the newest remake of Pride and Prejudice, and regardless of his playboy ways and the fact that Penny Pollack hasn’t seen Jax for 15 years, Penny is quick to fall under Jax’s spell, agreeing to be in a fake ‘relationship’ with him in order to help snag a role that would make his childhood dreams come true.

But when Penny finds it difficult to determine what’s fake and what’s real when it comes to her and Jax’s feelings for one another, Penny’s stellar performance as devoted girlfriend will either result in she and Jax riding off into the Hollywood sunset or going back to the uptight and predictable girl she was before she took a risk and stepped outside her carefully placed boundaries.

Penny and Jax’s story is an entertaining romantic comedy that illustrates just how easy it is to get wrapped up in a fake relationship, especially when there are actual feelings building underneath their performances. And while Heartthrob uses several common conventions of the genre – friends-to-lovers, fake relationship, and Hollywood bad boy turned doting boyfriend, Katie McCoy puts her own spin on these romance attributes, creating a story filled with both angst and humor and constructing a hero and heroine who may have much different lifestyles as well as varying beliefs about love and commitment, but they share a connection that allows Penny to take risks and Jax to feel like there is someone final in his corner who believes in him and supports him no matter what choices he makes.

The third book in Katie McCoy’s All-Stars series is a steamy and sweet story that proves just how contrived Hollywood romances and relationships can be while also demonstrating how appealing finding someone genuine…someone authentic who can be so much more than a temporary solution to an image issue.

Excerpt from Rough Night

“You taste better than any pie, my Charlie,” Ian whispered against her lips. His hands tightened on her and she felt one of those big palms stroke her thigh. “Why don’t you straddle me and let’s see what happens.”

She knew what would happen. She placed the tray of treats on the table beside them and gingerly shifted, twisting so she straddled her Master’s lap. Yes, there it was. His cock was right against her pussy. All she had to do was…

Ian groaned as she rolled her pelvis. “That’s right, baby. Now give me some of that sweet, sweet lemony goodness. Ride me and feed me. That’s what I want. Let me watch you come.”

“And if I can make you come?” It was a fun little game. She would try to see if she could get that big dick of his to go off before she did.

“Then I’ll walk around for the rest of the night a bit on the uncomfortable side,” he replied, his hands finding her hips. He shifted and she found herself with her clitoris in the perfect position. “But that’s not going to happen. I know exactly how to make you moan, Charlie baby.”

She felt her phone vibrate. Charlie winced. “It’s another text.”

He pumped his hips up against hers. “Answer it. If it’s anyone except Malone telling us one of the children is missing, I’m texting them a dick pic and asking them to leave us alone. Let’s see if you can text while I do this.”

His erection slid over the perfect place and Charlie could feel the orgasm starting to build. How could he still do this to her? All he had to do was start touching her, using that deep Dom voice on her, and her whole body was ready to comply to his any and every whim.

Did she have to answer? It probably wasn’t anything important. Was anything in the world as important as the way this man made her feel?

“Give me a taste of that tart, baby. Or better yet, pull those pretty nipples out and let me taste them. Let me lick and suck and bite on those sweet nipples.”

Her vision was going soft as he hauled her close.

And her phone vibrated again.

“Ian,” she started.

“Do what you need to,” he replied as he licked her collarbone. “I’ll do what I have to.”

She was going to kill whoever was texting her. It was probably Malone, trying to figure out where the damn marshmallows were.

She bit back a groan and reached for her phone. It better be so good because she was getting close, and the minute Ian started sucking on her breasts she wouldn’t be able to hold…

Do you have a fire extinguisher?

“What?” Charlie shifted, trying to get a better grip on the phone.

And the chair under Ian kind of exploded.

Charlie hit the floor, her knees knocking on the tile. Ian had gone backward but he’d managed to twist his body so he landed on his shoulder instead of knocking the back of his head against the windowsill.

Panic flooded Charlie’s veins. She scrambled to find her phone. “Ian?”

“I’m fine,” he groaned. “Call him. Damn it. Can’t we have one fucking night out without the world coming to an end? Ah, yeah, this is going to hurt.”

Had he thrown out his back again? She couldn’t stop and find out. Sarah Stevens was here somewhere and she was a nurse. Surely she could help.

Charlie grabbed the phone from the midst of the now fallen lemon tarts. The tray had turned over, but there were still several that had landed on the table. She would have to shove those in her purse if they were about to flee home. With shaking fingers she dialed the number for Michael.

“Hey, Charlotte, I think I got the fire out. Boomer stopped, dropped, and rolled on it. That did the trick. The girls thought it was hilarious, but we’ve got another problem now,” Michael was saying.

“There was a fire?” She practically screamed the question.

“Tell Boomer to sit on it,” Ian said from the floor. “Put him on speaker.”

She didn’t need his sarcasm, but he had the right to listen in. She clicked to go to speaker. “Where was the fire, Michael?”

“Well, you see when I told the girls we could have a campout in the living room, I kind of thought we would build a fort made out of sheets, you know what I’m talking about,” Michael continued, his Texas drawl slow and steady. “Damn, Charlotte. I didn’t think the girls would take it so literally.”

Her girls took everything literally. “The girls tried to start a fire? In my living room?”

“It was minor,” Michael promised. “Mostly because they couldn’t take apart the furniture to burn. That was their plan. Apparently Ian taught them how to use whatever’s around to stay warm in case they find themselves out in the woods at night. I saved the sofa, but they did manage to get that wicker basket of yours to burn. Kala said she had to use it because she couldn’t get to the hatchet.”

Charlie turned to her husband. “Why would our daughters know how to use a hatchet?”

He was a nice shade of pale and his shoulder seemed weird. “You told me to teach them some life skills.”

She was going to kill everyone.
